We address the problem of robust state estimation of a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems with positive-slope nonlinearities when the sensors are corrupted by (potentially unbounded) attack signals and bounded measurement noise. We propose an observer-based estimator, using a bank of circle-criterion observers, which provides a robust estimate of the system state in spite of sensor attacks and measurement noise. We first consider the attack-free case where there is measurement noise and we provide a design method for a robust circle-criterion observer. Then, we consider the case when a sufficiently small subset of sensors are subject to attacks and all sensors are affected by measurement noise. We use our robust circle-criterion observer as the main ingredient in building an estimator that provides robust state estimation in this case. Finally, we propose an algorithm for isolating attacked sensors in the case of bounded measurement noise. We test this algorithm through simulations.

We address the problem of state estimation and attack isolation for general discrete-time nonlinear systems when sensors are corrupted by (potentially unbounded) attack signals. For a large class of nonlinear plants and observers, we provide a general estimation scheme, built around the idea of sensor redundancy and multi-observer, capable of reconstructing the system state in spite of sensor attacks and noise. This scheme has been proposed by others for linear systems/observers and here we propose a unifying framework for a much larger class of nonlinear systems/observers. Using the proposed estimator, we provide an isolation algorithm to pinpoint attacks on sensors during sliding time windows. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the performance of our tools.
We address the problem of attack detection and isolation for a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems under (potentially unbounded) sensor attacks and measurement noise. We consider the case when a subset of sensors is subject to additive false data injection attacks. Using a bank of observers, each observer leading to an Input-to-State Stable (ISS) estimation error, we propose two algorithms for detecting and isolating sensor attacks. These algorithms make use of the ISS property of the observers to check whether the trajectories of observers are `consistent with the attack-free trajectories of the system. Simulations results are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithms.
In this paper we propose a novel method to establish stability and, in addition, convergence to a consensus state for a class of discrete-time Multi-Agent System (MAS) evolving according to nonlinear heterogeneous local interaction rules which is not based on Lyapunov function arguments. In particular, we focus on a class of discrete-time MASs whose global dynamics can be represented by sub-homogeneous and order-preserving nonlinear maps. This paper directly generalizes results for sub-homogeneous and order-preserving linear maps which are shown to be the counterpart to stochastic matrices thanks to nonlinear Perron-Frobenius theory. We provide sufficient conditions on the structure of local interaction rules among agents to establish convergence to a fixed point and study the consensus problem in this generalized framework as a particular case. Examples to show the effectiveness of the method are provided to corroborate the theoretical analysis.
In this paper, we consider the problem of verifying safety constraint satisfaction for single-input single-output systems with uncertain transfer function coefficients. We propose a new type of barrier function based on a vector norm. This type of barrier function has a measurable upper bound without full state availability. An identifier-based estimator allows an exact bound for the uncertainty-based component of the barrier function estimate. Assuming that the system is safe initially allows an exponentially decreasing bound on the error due to the estimator transient. Barrier function and estimator synthesis is proposed as two convex sub-problems, exploiting linear matrix inequalities. The barrier function controller combination is then used to construct a safety backup controller. And we demonstrate the system in a simulation of a 1 degree-of-freedom human-exoskeleton interaction.

A fundamental challenge for millimeter wave (mmWave) communications lies in its sensitivity to the presence of blockages, which impact the connectivity of the communication links and ultimately the reliability of the entire network. In this paper, we analyze a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided mmWave communication system for enhancing the network reliability and connectivity in the presence of random blockages. To enhance the robustness of hybrid analog-digital beamforming in the presence of random blockages, we formulate a stochastic optimization problem based on the minimization of the sum outage probability. To tackle the proposed optimization problem, we introduce a low-complexity algorithm based on the stochastic block gradient descent method, which learns sensible blockage patterns without searching for all combinations of potentially blocked links. Numerical results confirm the performance benefits of the proposed algorithm in terms of outage probability and effective data rate.
