We analyze theoretically the Schrodinger-Poisson equation in two transverse dimensions in the presence of a Kerr term. The model describes the nonlinear propagation of optical beams in thermooptical media and can be regarded as an analogue system for a self-gravitating self-interacting wave. We compute numerically the family of radially symmetric ground state bright stationary solutions for focusing and defocusing local nonlinearity, keeping in both cases a focusing nonlocal nonlinearity. We also analyze excited states and oscillations induced by fixing the temperature at the borders of the material. We provide simulations of soliton interactions, drawing analogies with the dynamics of galactic cores in the scalar field dark matter scenario.

We present the study of the dark soliton dynamics in an inhomogenous fiber by means of a variable coefficient modified nonlinear Schr{o}dinger equation (Vc-MNLSE) with distributed dispersion, self-phase modulation, self-steepening and linear gain/loss. The ultrashort dark soliton pulse evolution and interaction is studied by using the Hirota bilinear (HB) method. In particular, we give much insight into the effect of self-steepening (SS) on the dark soliton dynamics. The study reveals a shock wave formation, as a major effect of SS. Numerically, we study the dark soliton propagation in the continuous wave background, and the stability of the soliton solution is tested in the presence of photon noise. The elastic collision behaviors of the dark solitons are discussed by the asymptotic analysis. On the other hand, considering the nonlinear tunneling of dark soliton through barrier/well, we find that the tunneling of the dark soliton depends on the height of the barrier and the amplitude of the soliton. The intensity of the tunneling soliton either forms a peak or valley and retains its shape after the tunneling. For the case of exponential background, the soliton tends to compress after tunneling through the barrier/well.
Ring dark and anti-dark solitons in nonlocal media are found. These structures have, respectively, the form of annular dips or humps on top of a stable continuous-wave background, and exist in a weak or strong nonlocality regime, defined by the sign of a characteristic parameter. It is demonstrated analytically that these solitons satisfy an effective cylindrical Kadomtsev-Petviashvilli (aka Johnsons) equation and, as such, can be written explicitly in closed form. Numerical simulations show that they propagate undistorted and undergo quasi-elastic collisions, attesting to their stability properties.

Irrotational ow of a spherical thin liquid layer surrounding a rigid core is described using the defocusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation. Accordingly, azimuthal moving nonlinear waves are modeled by periodic dark solitons expressed by elliptic functions. In the quantum regime the algebraic Bethe ansatz is used in order to capture the energy levels of such motions, which we expect to be relevant for the dynamics of the nuclear clusters in deformed heavy nuclei surface modeled by quantum liquid drops. In order to validate the model we match our theoretical energy spectra with experimental results on energy, angular momentum and parity for alpha particle clustering nuclei.
We study the propagation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on a metal surface which hosts a thin film of a liquid dielectric. The ohmic losses, that are inherently present due to the coupling of SPPs to conductors electron plasma, induce temperature gradients and fluid deformation driven by the thermocapillary effect, which lead to a nonlinear and nonlocal change of the effective dielectric constant. The latter extends beyond the regions of highest optical intensity, and constitutes a novel thermally self-induced mechanism that affects the propagation of the SPPs. We derive the nonlinear and nonlocal Schrodinger equation (NNLSE) that describes propagation of low intensity SPP beams, and show analytically and numerically that it supports a novel optical spatial soliton excitation.
The long-term behavior of a modulationally unstable conservative nonintegrable system is known to be characterized by the soliton turbulence self-organization process. We consider this problem in the presence of a long-range interaction in the framework of the Schrodinger-Poisson (or Newton-Schrodinger) equation accounting for the gravitational interaction. By increasing the amount of nonlinearity, the system self-organizes into a large-scale incoherent localized structure that contains hidden coherent soliton states: The solitons can hardly be identified in the usual spatial or spectral domains, while their existence is unveiled in the phase-space representation (spectrogram). We develop a theoretical approach that provides the coupled description of the coherent soliton component (governed by an effective Schrodinger-Poisson equation) and of the incoherent component (governed by a wave turbulence Vlasov-Poisson equation). The theory shows that the incoherent structure introduces an effective trapping potential that stabilizes the hidden coherent soliton, a mechanism that we verify by direct numerical simulations. The theory characterizes the properties of the localized incoherent structure, such as its compactly supported spectral shape. It also clarifies the quantum-to-classical correspondence in the presence of gravitational interactions. This study is of potential interest for self-gravitating Boson models of fuzzy dark matter. Although we focus our paper on the Schrodinger-Poisson equation, we show that our results are general for long-range wave systems characterized by an algebraic decay of the interacting potential. This work should stimulate nonlinear optics experiments in highly nonlocal nonlinear (thermal) media that mimic the long-range nature of gravitational interactions.
