We present a new class of spherically symmetric spacetimes for matter distributions with anisotropic pressures in the presence of an electric field. The equation of state for the matter distribution is linear. A class of new exact solutions is found to the Einstein-Maxwell system of equations with an isotropic form of the line element. We achieve this by specifying particular forms for one of the gravitational potentials and the electric field intensity. We regain the masses of the stars PSR J1614-2230, Vela X-1, PSR J1903+327, 4U 1820-30 and SAX J1808.4-3658 for particular parameter values. A detailed physical analysis for the star PSR J1614-2230 indicates that the model is well behaved.

Recently it has been proposed that the Gauss-Bonnet coupling parameter of Lovelock gravity may suitably be rescaled in order to admit physically viable models of celestial phenomena such that higher curvature effects are active in standard four dimensions as opposed to the usual higher dimensions. We investigate the consequences of this modification in the context of stellar modelling. The evolution of perfect fluid distributions is governed by the pressure isotropy condition and through stipulation of one of the metric potentials complete models emerge from solutions of the master differential equation. New classes of exact solution with this approach have been reported. One particular model is analysed in detail and shown to comport with elementary physical requirements demanded of realistic compact stars suggesting that the modified theory is not inconsistent with observations.

We study the particular case in which Extended Geometric Deformation does consists of consecutive deformations of temporal and spatial components of the metric, in Schwarzschild-like and isotropic coordinates. In the latter, we present two inequivalent ways to perform this 2-steps GD. This was done in such a way that the method may be applied to different seed solutions. As an example, we use Tolman IV as seed solution, in order to obtain two inequivalent physical solutions with anisotropy in the pressures in Schwarzschild-like coordinates. In the isotropic sector, we obtained four different solutions with anisotropy in the pressures that satisfy physical acceptability conditions, using Gold III as seed solution.
Neutron stars are extremely relativistic objects which abound in our universe and yet are poorly understood, due to the high uncertainty on how matter behaves in the extreme conditions which prevail in the stellar core. It has recently been pointed out that the moment of inertia I, the Love number lambda and the spin-induced quadrupole moment Q of an isolated neutron star, are related through functions which are practically independent of the equation of state. These surprising universal I-lambda-Q relations pave the way for a better understanding of neutron stars, most notably via gravitational-wave emission. Gravitational-wave observations will probe highly-dynamical binaries and it is important to understand whether the universality of the I-lambda-Q relations survives strong-field and finite-size effects. We apply a Post-Newtonian-Affine approach to model tidal deformations in compact binaries and show that the I-lambda relation depends on the inspiral frequency, but is insensitive to the equation of state. We provide a fit for the universal relation, which is valid up to a gravitational wave frequency of ~900 Hz and accurate to within a few percent. Our results strengthen the universality of I-lambda-Q relations, and are relevant for gravitational-wave observations with advanced ground-based interferometers. We also discuss the possibility of using the Love-compactness relation to measure the neutron-star radius with an uncertainty of about 10% or smaller from gravitational-wave observations.

The main objective of this work, is to show two inequivalent methods to obtain new spherical symmetric solutions of Einsteins Equations with anisotropy in the pressures in isotropic coordinates. This was done inspired by the MGD method, which is known to be valid for line elements in Schwarzschild coordinates. As example, we obtained four analytical solutions using Gold III as seed solution. Two solutions, out of four, (one for each algorithm), satisfy the physical acceptability conditions.

Obtaining exact solutions of the spherically symmetric general relativistic gravitational field equations describing the interior structure of an isotropic fluid sphere is a long standing problem in theoretical and mathematical physics. The usual approach to this problem consists mainly in the numerical investigation of the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff and of the mass continuity equations, which describes the hydrostatic stability of the dense stars. In the present paper we introduce an alternative approach for the study of the relativistic fluid sphere, based on the relativistic mass equation, obtained by eliminating the energy density in the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation. Despite its apparent complexity, the relativistic mass equation can be solved exactly by using a power series representation for the mass, and the Cauchy convolution for infinite power series. We obtain exact series solutions for general relativistic dense astrophysical objects described by the linear barotropic and the polytropic equations of state, respectively. For the polytropic case we obtain the exact power series solution corresponding to arbitrary values of the polytropic index $n$. The explicit form of the solution is presented for the polytropic index $n=1$, and for the indexes $n=1/2$ and $n=1/5$, respectively. The case of $n=3$ is also considered. In each case the exact power series solution is compared with the exact numerical solutions, which are reproduced by the power series solutions truncated to seven terms only. The power series representations of the geometric and physical properties of the linear barotropic and polytropic stars are also obtained.
