We report the impact of silver addition on granularity of NdFeAsO0.8F0.2 superconductor. The ac susceptibility and electrical resistivity under magnetic field are measured to study the improvement in weak links of NdFeAsO0.8F0.2 with addition of Ag. The Ag free NdFeAsO0.8F0.2 compound shows superconductivity at around 51.8K. Typical two step superconducting transitions due to the inter and intra grain contributions, induced from the combined effect of superconducting grains and the inter-granular weak-coupled medium respectively are clearly seen in susceptibility plots. In comparison to the pure NdFeAsO0.8F0.2 compound, the coupling between the superconducting grains is significantly improved for 20Ag silver doped sample, and the same is deteriorated for higher Ag content i.e., for 30wt Ag sample. The magneto transport measurements R(T)H of polycrystalline 20Ag doped NdFeAsO0.8F0.2, exhibited the upper critical filed [Hc2(0)] of up to 334Tesla, which is slightly higher than the one observed for pure NdFeAsO0.8F0.2. The flux flow activation energy varies from 7143.38K to 454.77K with magnetic field ranging from 0Tesla to 14Tesla for 20wtAg doped NdFeAsO0.8F0.2. In this investigation, our results show that limited addition of Ag improves the granular coupling of superconducting grains of NdFeAsO0.8F0.2 compound.

We report the impact of Ni doping on superconductivity of PdTe superconductor. The superconducting parameters like critical temperature (Tc), upper critical field (Hc2) and normalized specific-heat jump are reported for Ni doped Pd1-xNixTe. The samples of series Pd1-xNixTe with nominal compositions x=0, .01, 0.05, 0.07, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.3 and 1.0 are synthesized via solid state reaction route. All the studied samples of series Pd1-xNixTe (x = 0.0 to 1.0) are crystallized in hexagonal crystal structure within the space group P63/mmc. Unit cell volume shrinks almost linearly upon Ni doping in Pd1-xNixTe. The normal state residual resistivity increases with Ni substitution on Pd site. Both the electrical resistivity and magnetic measurements revealed that Tc decreases with increase of Ni concentration in Pd1-xNixTe and is not observed down to 2K for x=0.30 i.e., 30% of Ni doping at Pd site. Interestingly, this is unusual for magnetic Ni doping in a known type-II BCS type superconductor. Magnetic Ni must suppress the superconductivity much faster. Interestingly, the isothermal magnetization measurements for NiTe revealed that Ni is non-magnetic in Pd1-xNixTe structure and hence the Tc depression is mainly due to disorder. The magneto-transport measurements revealed that flux is better pinned for 20% Ni doped PdTe as compared to other compositions of Pd1-xNixTe. The magnetic field dependence of specific heat of Pd1-xNixTe for x=0.01 was studied and the estimated value of the normalized specific-heat jump,is found to be 1.42, which is under BCS weak-coupling limit. Summarily, we report the impact of Ni doping in Pd1-xNixTe superconductor and conclude that Ni substitutes at Pd site, suppress superconductivity moderately and is of non magnetic nature in this system. To best of our knowledge this is the first study on Ni substitution in PdTe superconductor.
We report the first-principles study on the H-intercalated Cr-based superconductor KCr$_3$As$_3$H$_x$. Our results show a paramagnetic ground state for KCr$_3$As$_3$H. The electronic structure consists of two quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) Fermi-surfaces and one 3D Fermi-surface which are mainly contributed by Cr-d$_{z^2}$, d$_{x^2-y^2}$ and d$_{xy}$ orbitals. The bare electron susceptibility shows a $Gamma$-centered imaginary peak, indicating possible ferromagnetic spin fluctuations. Upon moderate hole doping, the system undergoes a Lifshitz transition, which may enhance the Q1D feature of the system. The Bader charge analysis and electron localization functions reveal a strong bonding nature of hydrogen in KCr$_3$As$_3$H, which results in a nontrivial electron doping in KCr$_3$As$_3$H.

Single crystalline CaFe2As2 and (Ca1-xNax)Fe2As2 polycrystals (0 < x < 0.66) are synthesized and characterized using structural, magnetic, electronic transport, and heat capacity measurements. These measurements show that the structural/magnetic phas e transition in CaFe2As2 at 165 K is monotonically suppressed by the Na doping and that superconductivity can be realized over a wide doping region. For 0.3 < x < 0.36, the magnetic susceptibilities indicate the possible coexistence of the spin density wave (SDW) and superconductivity. Superconducting phases corresponding to the Na doping level in (Ca1-xNax)Fe2As2 for nominal x = 0.36, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, and 0.66, with Tc = 17 K, 19 K, 22 K, 33 K, and 33 K, respectively, are identified. The effects of the magnetic field on the superconductivity transitions for x = 0.66 samples with high upper critical fields Hc2 approx 103 T are studied, and a phase diagram of the SDW and superconductivity as a function of the doping level is thus presented.
The new rare-earth arsenate superconductors are layered, low carrier density compounds with many similarities to the high-Tc cuprates. An important question is whether they also exhibit weak-coupling across randomly oriented grain-boundaries. In this work we show considerable evidence for such weak-coupling by study of the dependence of magnetization in bulk and powdered samples. Bulk sample magnetization curves show very little hysteresis while remanent magnetization shows almost no sample size dependence, even after powdering. We conclude that these samples exhibit substantial electromagnetic granularity on a scale approximating the grain size, though we cannot yet determine whether this is intrinsic or extrinsic.

Significant progress has been achieved in fabricating high quality bulk and thinfilm iron-based superconductors. In particular, artificial layered pnictide superlattices offer the possibility of tailoring the superconducting properties and understanding the mechanism of the superconductivity itself. For high field applications, large critical current densities (Jc) and irreversibility fields (Hirr) are indispensable along all crystal directions. On the other hand, the development of superconducting devices such as tunnel junctions requires multilayered heterostructures. Here we show that artificially engineered undoped Ba-122 / Co doped Ba-122 compositionally modulated superlattices produce ab-aligned nanoparticle arrays. These layer and self-assemble along c-axis aligned defects, and combine to produce very large Jc and Hirr enhancements over a wide angular range. We also demonstrate a structurally modulated SrTiO3 (STO) / Co doped Ba-122 superlattice with sharp interfaces. Success in superlattice fabrication involving pnictides will aid the progress of heterostructured systems exhibiting novel interfacial phenomena and device applications.
