An indirect-direct hybrid-drive work-dominated hotspot ignition scheme for inertial confinement fusion is proposed: a layered fuel capsule inside a spherical hohlraum with an octahedral symmetry is compressed first by indirect-drive soft-x rays (radiation) and then by direct-drive lasers in last pulse duration. In this scheme, an enhanced shock and a follow-up compression wave for ignition with pressure far greater than the radiation ablation pressure are driven by the direct-drive lasers, and provide large pdV work to the hotspot to perform the work-dominated ignition. The numerical simulations show that the enhanced shock stops the reflections of indirect-drive shock at the main fuel-hotspot interface, and therefore significantly suppresses the hydrodynamic instabilities and asymmetry. Based on the indirect-drive implosion dynamics the hotspot is further compressed and heated by the enhanced shock and follow-up compression wave, resulting in the work-dominated hotspot ignition and burn with a maximal implosion velocity of ~400 km/s and a lower convergence ratio of ~25. The fusion yield of 15 MJ using total laser energy of 1.32 MJ is achieved.

In laser-drive ICF, hybrid drive (HD) combined direct drive (DD) and indirect drive (ID) offers a smoothed HD pressure $P_{HD}$, far higher than the ablation pressure in ID and DD, to suppress hydrodynamic instabilities. In this letter, simulations of a new robust HD ignition target show that maximal HD pressure as high as $P_{HD} sim$ 650 Mbar driven by a novel bulldozer effect is achieved, resulting in nonstagnation hotspot ignition at the convergence ratio $C_r sim $23, and finally, fusion energy gain $sim$ 10 in total laser energy = 1.42 MJ. Two-dimensional simulations have confirmed that hydrodynamic instabilities are suppressed. A well-fitted scale of maximal HD pressure $P_{HD}$ (Mbar)= $BE_{DD}^{1/4} T_r$ is found from simulations of different targets and laser energies as long as $T_r> 160$ eV, where B is the constant depending on ablator materials, $E_{DD}$ in kJ is DD laser energy and $T_r$ in 100 eV is radiation temperature depending on ID laser energy $E_{ID}$. $P_{HD}geq$ 450 Mbar is requested for hotspot ignition. This scale from bulldozer effect is also available as $E_{DD}$ is reduced to kJ. Experiments have verified $P_{HD}$ about 3.5 times radiation ablation pressure for CH ablator using $E_{ID}=43$ kJ ($T_r simeq$200 eV) and $E_{DD}$=3.6 kJ, also shown that both backscattering fraction and hot-electron energy fraction for DD laser intensity $sim 1.8 times 10^{15} {rm wcdot cm^{-2}}$ are about a third of the traditional DD laser-plasma interaction
A novel ignition hohlraum for indirect-drive inertial confinement fusion is proposed, which is named as three-axis cylindrical hohlraum (TACH). TACH is a kind of 6 laser entrance holes (LEHs) hohlraum, which is made of three cylindrical hohlraums orthogonally jointed. Laser beams are injected through every entrance hole with the same incident angle of 55{deg}. The view-factor simulation result shows that the time-varying drive asymmetry of TACH is no more than 1.0% in the whole drive pulse period without any supplementary technology such as beam phasing etc. Its coupling efficiency of TACH is close to that of 6 LEHs spherical hohlraum with corresponding size. Its plasma-filling time is close to typical cylindrical ignition hohlraum. Its laser plasma interaction has as low backscattering as the outer cone of the cylindrical ignition hohlraum. Therefore, the proposed hohlraum provides a competitive candidate for ignition hohlraum.
A novel capsule target design to improve the hot-spot pressure in the high-adiabat implosion for inertial confinement fusion is proposed, where a layer of comparatively high-density material is used as a pusher between the fuel and the ablator. This design is based on our theoretical finding of the stagnation scaling laws, which indicates that the hot spot pressure can be improved by increasing the kinetic energy density $rho_d V_{imp}^2/2$ ($rho_d$ is the shell density when the maximum shell velocity is reached, $V_{imp}$ is the implosion velocity.) of the shell. The proposed design uses the high density pusher to enhance the shell density $rho_d$ so that the hot spot pressure is improved. Radio-hydrodynamic simulations show that the hot spot pressure of the design reaches the requirement for ignition even driven by a very high-adiabat short-duration two-shock pulse. The design is hopeful to simultaneously overcome the two major obstacles to achieving ignition--ablative instability and laser-plasma instability.

The Code O-SUKI is an integrated 2-dimensional (2D) simulation program system for a fuel implosion, ignition and burning of a direct-drive nuclear-fusion pellet in heavy ion beam (HIB) inertial confinement fusion (HIF). The Code O-SUKI consists of the four programs of the HIB illumination and energy deposition program of OK3 (Comput. Phys. Commun. 181, 1332 (2010)), a Lagrangian fluid implosion program, a data conversion program, and an Euler fluid implosion, ignition and burning program. The OK3 computes the multi-HIBs irradiation onto a spherical fuel target. One HIB is divided into many beamlets in OK3. Each heavy ion beamlet deposits its energy along the trajectory in a deposition layer depending on the particle energy. The OK3 also has a function of a wobbling motion of the HIB axis oscillation, and the HIBs energy deposition spatial detail profile is obtained inside the energy absorber of the fuel target. The spherical target implosion 2D behavior is computed by the 2D Lagrangian fluid code coupled with OK3, until just before the void closure time of the fuel implosion. After that, all the data by the Lagrangian implosion code are converted to them for the Eulerian code. The fusion Deuterium (D)-Tritium (T) fuel and the inward moving heavy tamping material are imploded and deformed seriously at the stagnation phase. The Euler fluid code is appropriate to simulate the fusion fuel compression, ignition and burning. The Code O-SUKI 2D simulation system provides a capability to compute and to study the HIF target implosion dynamics.
Neutron penumbral imaging technique has been successfully used as the diagnosis method in Inertial Confined Fusion. To help the design of the imaging systems in the future in CHINA. We construct the Monte carlo imaging system by Geant4. Use the point spread function from the simulation and decode algorithm (Lucy-Rechardson algorithm) we got the recovery image.
