We provide a general algorithm for constructing the holographic dictionary for any asymptotically locally Lifshitz background, with or without hyperscaling violation, and for any values of the dynamical exponents $z$ and $theta$, as well as the vector hyperscaling violating exponent, that are compatible with the null energy condition. The analysis is carried out for a very general bottom up model of gravity coupled to a massive vector field and a dilaton with arbitrary scalar couplings. The solution of the radial Hamilton-Jacobi equation is obtained recursively in the form of a graded expansion in eigenfunctions of two commuting operators, which are the appropriate generalization of the dilatation operator for non scale invariant and Lorentz violating boundary conditions. The Fefferman-Graham expansions, the sources and 1-point functions of the dual operators, the Ward identities, as well as the local counterterms required for holographic renormalization all follow from this asymptotic solution of the radial Hamilton-Jacobi equation. We also find a family of exact backgrounds with $z>1$ and $theta>0$ corresponding to a marginal deformation shifting the vector hyperscaling violating parameter and we present an example where the conformal anomaly contains the only $z=2$ conformal invariant in $d=2$ with four spatial derivatives.

We present the full charge and energy diffusion constants for the Einstein-Maxwell dilaton (EMD) action for Lifshitz spacetime characterized by a dynamical critical exponent $z$. Therein we compute the fully renormalized static thermodynamic potential explicitly, which confirms the forms of all thermodynamic quantities including the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and Smarr-like relationship. Our exact computation demonstrates a modification to the Lifshitz Ward identity for the EMD theory. For transport, we target our analysis at finite chemical potential and include axion fields to generate momentum dissipation. While our exact results corroborate anticipated bounds, we are able to demonstrate that the diffusivities are governed by the engineering dimension of the diffusion coefficient, $[D]=2-z$. Consequently, a $beta$-function defined as the derivative of the trace of the diffusion matrix with respect to the effective lattice spacing changes sign precisely at $z=2$. At $z=2$, the diffusion equation exhibits perfect scale invariance and the corresponding diffusion constant is the pure number $1/d_s$ for both the charge and energy sectors, where $d_s$ is the number of spatial dimensions. Further, we find that as $ztoinfty$, the charge diffusion constant vanishes, indicating charge localization. Deviation from universal decoupled transport obtains when either the chemical potential or momentum dissipation are large relative to temperature, an echo of strong thermoelectric interactions.

A rigorous (and simple) proof is given that there is a one-to-one correspondence between causal anti-deSitter covariant quantum field theories on anti-deSitter space and causal conformally covariant quantum field theories on its conformal boundary. The correspondence is given by the explicit identification of observables localized in wedge regions in anti-deSitter space and observables localized in double-cone regions in its boundary. It takes vacuum states into vacuum states, and positive-energy representations into positive-energy representations.

In two dimensional conformal field theory the generating functional for correlators of the stress-energy tensor is given by the non-local Polyakov action associated with the background geometry. We study this functional holographically by calculating the regularized on-shell action of asymptotically AdS gravity in three dimensions, associated with a specified (but arbitrary) boundary metric. This procedure is simplified by making use of the Chern-Simons formulation, and a corresponding first-order expansion of the bulk dreibein, rather than the metric expansion of Fefferman and Graham. The dependence of the resulting functional on local moduli of the boundary metric agrees precisely with the Polyakov action, in accord with the AdS/CFT correspondence. We also verify the consistency of this result with regard to the nontrivial transformation properties of bulk solutions under Brown-Henneaux diffeomorphisms.
Quantum theory can be formulated with certain non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. An anti-linear involution, denoted by PT, is a symmetry of such Hamiltonians. In the PT-symmetric regime the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian is related to a Hermitian one by a Hermitian similarity transformation. We extend the concept of non-Hermitian quantum theory to gauge-gravity duality. Non-Hermiticity is introduced via boundary conditions in asymptotically AdS spacetimes. At zero temperature the PT phase transition is identified as the point at which the solutions cease to be real. Surprisingly for solutions containing black holes real solutions can be found well outside the quasi-Hermitian regime. These backgrounds are however unstable to fluctuations which establishes the persistence of the holographic dual of the PT phase transition at finite temperature.
We apply the quantum renormalization group to construct a holographic dual for the U(N) vector model for complex bosons defined on a lattice. The bulk geometry becomes dynamical as the hopping amplitudes which determine connectivity of space are promoted to quantum variables. In the large N limit, the full bulk equations of motion for the dynamical hopping fields are numerically solved for finite systems. From finite size scaling, we show that different phases exhibit distinct geometric features in the bulk. In the insulating phase, the space gets fragmented into isolated islands deep inside the bulk, exhibiting ultra-locality. In the superfluid phase, the bulk exhibits a horizon beyond which the geometry becomes non-local. Right at the horizon, the hopping fields decay with a universal power-law in coordinate distance between sites, while they decay in slower power-laws with continuously varying exponents inside the horizon. At the critical point, the bulk exhibits a local geometry whose characteristic length scale diverges asymptotically in the IR limit.
