The characteristic function of the folded normal distribution and its moment function are derived. The entropy of the folded normal distribution and the Kullback--Leibler from the normal and half normal distributions are approximated using Taylor series. The accuracy of the results are also assessed using different criteria. The maximum likelihood estimates and confidence intervals for the parameters are obtained using the asymptotic theory and bootstrap method. The coverage of the confidence intervals is also examined.

L_p-quantiles represent an important class of generalised quantiles and are defined as the minimisers of an expected asymmetric power function, see Chen (1996). For p=1 and p=2 they correspond respectively to the quantiles and the expectiles. In his paper Koenker (1993) showed that the tau quantile and the tau expectile coincide for every tau in (0,1) for a class of rescaled Student t distributions with two degrees of freedom. Here, we extend this result proving that for the Student t distribution with p degrees of freedom, the tau quantile and the tau L_p-quantile coincide for every tau in (0,1) and the same holds for any affine transformation. Furthermore, we investigate the properties of L_p-quantiles and provide recursive equations for the truncated moments of the Student t distribution.
Smoothed AIC (S-AIC) and Smoothed BIC (S-BIC) are very widely used in model averaging and are very easily to implement. Especially, the optimal model averaging method MMA and JMA have only been well developed in linear models. Only by modifying, they can be applied to other models. But S-AIC and S-BIC can be used in all situations where AIC and BIC can be calculated. In this paper, we study the asymptotic behavior of two commonly used model averaging estimators, the S-AIC and S-BIC estimators, under the standard asymptotic with general fixed parameter setup. In addition, the resulting coverage probability in Buckland et al. (1997) is not studied accurately, but it is claimed that it will be close to the intended. Our derivation make it possible to study accurately. Besides, we also prove that the confidence interval construction method in Hjort and Claeskens (2003) still works in linear regression with normal distribution error. Both the simulation and applied example support our theory conclusion.
In the stochastic frontier model, the composed error term consists of the measurement error and the inefficiency term. A general assumption is that the inefficiency term follows a truncated normal or exponential distribution. In a wide variety of models evaluating the cumulative distribution function of the composed error term is required. This work introduces and proves four representation theorems for these distributions - two for each distributional assumptions. These representations can be utilized for a fast and accurate evaluation.

Mixture models are commonly used when data show signs of heterogeneity and, often, it is important to estimate the distribution of the latent variable responsible for that heterogeneity. This is a common problem for data taking values in a Euclidean space, but the work on mixing distribution estimation based on directional data taking values on the unit sphere is limited. In this paper, we propose using the predictive recursion (PR) algorithm to solve for a mixture on a sphere. One key feature of PR is its computational efficiency. Moreover, compared to likelihood-based methods that only support finite mixing distribution estimates, PR is able to estimate a smooth mixing density. PRs asymptotic consistency in spherical mixture models is established, and simulation results showcase its benefits compared to existing likelihood-based methods. We also show two real-data examples to illustrate how PR can be used for goodness-of-fit testing and clustering.
