Using ab initio band structure and model calculations we studied magnetic properties of one of the Mn$_4$ molecular magnets (Mn4(hmp)6), where two types of the Mn ions exist: Mn3+ and Mn2+. The direct calculation of the exchange constants in the GGA+U approximation shows that in contrast to a common belief the strongest exchange coupling is not between two Mn3+ ions (J_{bb}), but along two out of four exchange paths connecting Mn3+ and Mn2+ ions (J_{wb}). The microscopic analysis performed within the perturbation theory allowed to establish the mechanism for this largest ferromagnetic exchange constant. The charge ordering of the Mn ions results in the situation when the energy of the excited state in the exchange process is defined not by the large on-site Coulomb repulsion U, but by much smaller energy V, which stabilizes the charge ordered state. Together with strong Hunds rule coupling and specific orbital order this leads to a large ferromagnetic exchange interaction for two out of four Mn2+ --Mn3+ pairs.

Magnetic topological phases of quantum matter are an emerging frontier in physics and material science. Along these lines, several kagome magnets have appeared as the most promising platforms. Here, we explore magnetic correlations in the transition-metal-based kagome magnet TbMn$_{6}$Sn$_{6}$. Our results show that the system exhibits an out-of-plane ferrimagnetic structure $P6/mmm$ (comprised by Tb and Mn moments) with slow magnetic fluctuations in a wide temperature range. These fluctuations exhibit a slowing down below $T_{rm C1}^{*}$ ${simeq}$ 120 K and a slightly modified quasi-static magnetic state is established below $T_{rm C1}$ ${simeq}$ 20 K. A canted variation of the $P6/mmm$ structure is possible, where all moments contribute to a net $c$-axis ferrimagnetic state which exhibits zero net in-plane components. Alternatively, a small incommensurate $k$-vector could arise below $T_{rm C1}$. We further show that the temperature evolution of the anomalous Hall conductivity (AHC) is strongly influenced by the low temperature magnetic crossover. More importantly, the here identified magnetic state seems to be responsible for the large quasi-linear magnetoresistance as well as for the appearance of quantum oscillations, which are related to the quantized Landau fan structure featuring a spin-polarized Dirac dispersion with a large Chern gap. Therefore the exciting perspective of a magnetic system arises in which the topological response can be controlled, and thus explored, over a wide range of parameters.

We present zero field muon spin lattice relaxation measurements of a Dysprosium triangle molecular magnet. The local magnetic fields sensed by the implanted muons indicate the coexistence of static and dynamic internal magnetic fields below $T^* ~35$ K. Bulk magnetization and heat capacity measurements show no indication of magnetic ordering below this temperature. We attribute the static fields to the slow relaxation of the magnetization in the ground state of Dy3. The fluctuation time of the dynamic part of the field is estimated to be ~0.55 $mu$s at low temperatures

We measured two magnetic modes with finite and discrete energies in an antiferromagnetic ordered phase of a geometrically frustrated magnet MgCr2O4 by single-crystal inelastic neutron scattering, and clarified the spatial spin correlations of the two levels: one is an antiferromagnetic hexamer and the other is an antiferromagnetic heptamer. Since these correlation types are emblematic of quasielastic scattering with geometric frustration, our results indicate instantaneous suppression of lattice distortion in an ordered phase by spin-lattice coupling, probably also supported by orbital and charge. The common features in the two levels, intermolecular independence and discreteness of energy, suggest that the spin molecules are interpreted as quasiparticles (elementary excitations with energy quantum) of highly frustrated spins, in analogy with the Fermi liquid approximation.
Y{0.5}$Ca{0.5}BaCo4O7 contains kagome layers of Co ions, whose spins are strongly coupled according to a Curie-Weiss temperature of -2200 K. At low temperatures, T = 1.2 K, our diffuse neutron scattering study with polarization analysis reveals characteristic spin correlations close to a predicted two-dimensional coplanar ground state with staggered chirality. The absence of three dimensional long-range AF order proves negligible coupling between the kagome layers. The scattering intensities are consistent with high spin S=3/2 states of Co2+ in the kagome layers and low spin S=0 states for Co3+ ions at interlayer sites. Our observations agree with previous Monte Carlo simulations indicating a ground state of only short range chiral order.
A new variational approach is proposed at zero temperature for a finite density of charge carriers in order to study ground state features of the Frohlich model including electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions. Within the intermediate electron-phonon coupling regime characteristic of large polarons, the approach takes into account on the same footing polaron formation and polaron-polaron correlations which play a relevant role going from low to high charge densities. Including fluctuations on top of the variational approach, the electronic spectral function is calculated from the weak to the intermediate electron-phonon coupling regime finding a peak-dip-hump line shape. The spectra are characterized by a transfer of spectral weight from the incoherent hump to the coherent peak with decreasing the electron-phonon coupling constant or with increasing the particle density. Three different density regimes stem out: the first, at low densities, where the features of a single large polaron with a substantial incoherent spectral weight are not modified by charge carrier interactions; a second one, at intermediate densities, where the polaronic liquid shows a rapid crossover from incoherent to coherent dynamics; the third one, at high densities, where screening effects are so prominent that the system presents a conventional metallic phase. The results obtained in the low to intermediate density regime turn out to be relevant for the interpretation of recent tunneling and photoemission experiments in SrTiO3-based systems.
