In these lecture we explain why limiting distribution function, like the Tracy-Widom distribution, or limit processes, like the Airy_2 process, arise both in random matrices and interacting particle systems. The link is through a common mathematical structure on an interlacing structure, also known as Gelfand-Tsetlin pattern, that appears for specific models in both fields.

We consider the product of n complex non-Hermitian, independent random matrices, each of size NxN with independent identically distributed Gaussian entries (Ginibre matrices). The joint probability distribution of the complex eigenvalues of the product matrix is found to be given by a determinantal point process as in the case of a single Ginibre matrix, but with a more complicated weight given by a Meijer G-function depending on n. Using the method of orthogonal polynomials we compute all eigenvalue density correlation functions exactly for finite N and fixed n. They are given by the determinant of the corresponding kernel which we construct explicitly. In the large-N limit at fixed n we first determine the microscopic correlation functions in the bulk and at the edge of the spectrum. After unfolding they are identical to that of the Ginibre ensemble with n=1 and thus universal. In contrast the microscopic correlations we find at the origin differ for each n>1 and generalise the known Bessel-law in the complex plane for n=2 to a new hypergeometric kernel 0_F_n-1.
Using a specially tuned mean-field Bose gas as a reference system, we establish a positive lower bound on the condensate density for continuous Bose systems with superstable two-body interactions and a finite gap in the one-particle excitations spectrum, i.e. we prove for the first time standard homogeneous Bose-Einstein condensation for such interacting systems.
We consider random stochastic matrices $M$ with elements given by $M_{ij}=|U_{ij}|^2$, with $U$ being uniformly distributed on one of the classical compact Lie groups or associated symmetric spaces. We observe numerically that, for large dimensions, the spectral statistics of $M$, discarding the Perron-Frobenius eigenvalue $1$, are similar to those of the Gaussian Orthogonal ensemble for symmetric matrices and to those of the real Ginibre ensemble for non-symmetric matrices. Using Weingarten functions, we compute some spectral statistics that corroborate this universality. We also establish connections with some difficult enumerative problems involving permutations.
We provide a short proof of the quantisation of the Hall conductance for gapped interacting quantum lattice systems on the two-dimensional torus. This is not new and should be seen as an adaptation of the proof of [1], simplified by making the stronger assumption that the Hamiltonian remains gapped when threading the torus with fluxes. We argue why this assumption is very plausible. The conductance is given by Berrys curvature and our key auxiliary result is that the curvature is asymptotically constant across the torus of fluxes.

We consider a general Langevin dynamics for the one-dimensional N-particle Coulomb gas with confining potential $V$ at temperature $beta$. These dynamics describe for $beta=2$ the time evolution of the eigenvalues of $Ntimes N$ random Hermitian matrices. The equilibrium partition function -- equal to the normalization constant of the Laughlin wave function in fractional quantum Hall effect -- is known to satisfy an infinite number of constraints called Virasoro or loop constraints. We introduce here a dynamical generating function on the space of random trajectories which satisfies a large class of constraints of geometric origin. We focus in this article on a subclass induced by the invariance under the Schrodinger-Virasoro algebra.
