Scattering of a plane electromagnetic wave by an anisotropic impedance right-angled concave wedge at skew incidence is analyzed. A closed-form solution is derived by reducing the problem to a symmetric order-2 vector Riemann-Hilbert problem (RHP) on the real axis. The problem of matrix factorization leads to a scalar RHP on a genus-3 Riemann surface. Its solution is derived by the Weierstrass integrals. Due to a special symmetry of the problem the associated Jacobi inversion problem is solved in terms of elliptic integrals, not a genus-3 Riemann `e-function. The electric and magnetic field components are expressed through the Sommerfeld integrals, and the incident and reflected waves are recovered.

We show both theoretically and experimentally that an electromagnetic wave can be totally absorbed by an overdense plasma when a subwavelength diffraction grating is placed in front of the plasma surface. The absorption is due to dissipation of surface plasma waves (plasmons-polaritons) that have been resonantly excited by the evanescent component of the diffracted electromagnetic wave. The developed theoretical model allows one to determine the conditions for the total absorption.
The goal of this paper is to present a previously published work [1] in an errorless form. The work has studied the scattering of electromagnetic plane wave by an impedance strip placed in homogeneous isotropic chiral medium using Kobayashi Potential (KP) method; that has been an important, valuable and attractive investigation in the electromagnetic scattering, especially in KP method. Unfortunately, the study has some basic errors that prevent interesting readers from understanding the investigation. Finally, the formulation of this paper is validated by [2].
An analytical method for diffraction of a plane electromagnetic wave at periodically-modulated graphene sheet is presented. Both interface corrugation and periodical change in the optical conductivity are considered. Explicit expressions for reflection, transmission, absorption and transformation coefficients in arbitrary diffraction orders are presented. The dispersion relation and decay rates for graphene plasmons of the grating are found. Simple analytical expressions for the value of the band gap in the vicinity of the first Brillouin zone edge is derived. The optimal amplitude and wavelength, guaranteeing the best matching of the incident light with graphene plasmons are found for the conductivity grating. The analytical results are in a good agreement with first-principle numeric simulations.
A 2D problem of acoustic wave scattering by a segment bearing impedance boundary conditions is considered. In the current paper (the first part of a series of two) some preliminary steps are made, namely, the diffraction problem is reduced to two matrix Riemann-Hilbert problems with exponential growth of unknown functions (for the symmetrical part and for the antisymmetrical part). For this, the Wiener--Hopf problems are formulated, they are reduced to auxiliary functional problems by applying the embedding formula, and finally the Riemann-Hilbert problems are formulated by applying the Hurds method. In the second part the Riemann-Hilbert problems will be solved by a novel method of OE-equation.
We continue our study of the optical properties of the solar gravitational lens (SGL). Taking the next step beyond representing it as an idealized monopole, we now characterize the gravitational field of the Sun using an infinite series of multipole moments. We consider the propagation of electromagnetic (EM) waves in this gravitational field within the first post-Newtonian approximation of the general theory of relativity. The problem is formulated within the Mie diffraction theory. We solve Maxwells equations for the EM wave propagating in the background of a static gravitational field of an extended gravitating body, while accounting for multipole contributions. Using a wave-theoretical approach and the eikonal approximation, we find an exact closed form solution for the Debye potentials and determine the EM field at an image plane in the strong interference region of the lens. The resulting EM field is characterized by a new diffraction integral. We study this solution and show how the presence of multipoles affects the optical properties of the lens, resulting in distinct diffraction patterns. We identify the gravitational deflection angle with the individual contributions due to each of the multipoles. Treating the Sun as an extended, axisymmetric, rotating body, we show that each zonal harmonics causes light to diffract into an area whose boundary is a caustic of a particular shape. The appearance of the caustics modifies the point-spread function (PSF) of the lens, thus affecting its optical properties. The new wave-theoretical solution allows the study gravitational lensing by a realistic lens that possesses an arbitrary number of gravitational multipoles. This {em angular eikonal method} represents an improved treatment of realistic gravitational lensing. It may be used for a wave-optical description of many astrophysical lenses.
