We consider the warped AdS(6)xS^4/Z_n backgrounds dual to certain 5d quiver gauge theories. By studying dual giant gravitons in the AdS(6) geometry we are able to partially probe the Higgs branch of these theories. We show how the quantization of the phase space of such dual giants coincides with the counting of holomorphic functions on C^2/Z_n, which is the geometric part of the Higgs branch for these theories.

We generalize the operators of ABJM theory, given by Schur polynomials, in ABJ theory by computing the two point functions in the free field and at finite $(N_1,N_2)$ limits. These polynomials are then identified with the states of the dual gravity theory. Further, we compute correlators among giant gravitons as well as between giant gravitons and ordinary gravitons through the corresponding correlators of ABJ(M) theory. Finally, we consider a particular non-trivial background produced by an operator with an $cal R$-charge of $O(N^2)$ and find, in presence of this background, due to the contribution of the non-planar corrections, the large $(N_1,N_2)$ expansion is replaced by $1/(N_1+M)$ and $1/(N_2+M)$ respectively.

In this paper we apply the idea of Higgs branch localization to 5d supersymmetric theories of vector multiplet and hypermultiplets, obtained as the rigid limit of $mathcal{N} = 1$ supergravity with all auxiliary fields. On supersymmetric K-contact/Sasakian background, the Higgs branch BPS equations can be interpreted as 5d generalizations of the Seiberg-Witten equations. We discuss the properties and local behavior of the solutions near closed Reeb orbits. For $U(1)$ gauge theories, we show the suppression of the deformed Coulomb branch, and the partition function is dominated by 5d Seiberg-Witten solutions at large $zeta$-limit. For squashed $S^5$ and $Y^{pq}$ manifolds, we show the matching between poles in the perturbative Coulomb branch matrix model, and the bound on local winding numbers of the BPS solutions.
We go beyond a systematic review of the semiclassical approaches for determining the scaling dimensions of fixed-charge operators in $U(1)$ and $O(N)$ models by introducing a general strategy apt at determining the relation between a given charge configuration and the associated operators for more involved symmetry groups such as the $U(N) times U(M)$. We show how, varying the charge configuration, it is possible to access anomalous dimensions of different operators transforming according to a variety of irreducible representations of the non-abelian symmetry group without the aid of diagrammatical computations. We illustrate our computational strategy by determining the anomalous dimensions of several composite operators to the next-to-leading order in the semiclassical expansion for the $U(N) times U(M)$ conformal field theory (CFT) in $4-epsilon$ dimensions. Thanks to the powerful interplay between semiclassical methods and group theory we can, for the first time, extract scaling dimensions for a wide range of operators.
We develop techniques to compute the one-loop anomalous dimensions of operators in the ${cal N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory that are dual to open strings ending on boundstates of sphere giant gravitons. Our results, which are applicable to excitations involving an arbitrary number of open strings, generalize the single string results of hep-th/0701067. The open strings we consider carry angular momentum on an S$^3$ embedded in the S$^5$ of the AdS$_5times$S$^5$ background. The problem of computing the one loop anomalous dimensions is replaced with the problem of diagonalizing an interacting Cuntz oscillator Hamiltonian. Our Cuntz oscillator dynamics illustrates how the Chan-Paton factors for open strings propagating on multiple branes can arise dynamically.
We study some of the properties of dual giant gravitons - D2-branes wrapped on an $S^{2}subset AdS_{4}$ - in type IIA string theory on $AdS_{4}times mathbb{CP}^{3}$. In particular we confirm that the spectrum of small fluctuations about the giant is both real and independent of the size of the graviton. We also extend previously developed techniques for attaching open strings to giants to this D2-brane giant and focus on two particular limits of the resulting string sigma model: In the pp-wave limit we quantize the string and compute the spectrum of bosonic excitations while in the semiclassical limit, we read off the fast string Polyakov action and comment on the comparison to the Landau-Lifshitz action for the dual open spin chain.
