Series arrays of Josephson junctions show evidence of a mode in which all the junctions oscillate in synchronism on voltage resonances appearing, in zero external magnetic field, at multiples of the fundamental Fiske step spacing. The measurements show that the current amplitude of the resonances increases linearly as their voltages are summed. Investigation of the nature of the coherent mode by magnetic field responses of arrays and isolated juctions reveals that the oscillations take place in a parameter plane region where dc magnetic fields only activate boundary current and flux-quanta dynamics can take place.

AC Josephson current density in a Josephson junction with DC bias is spatially modulated by an external magnetic field, and induces an electromagnetic (EM) field inside the junction. The current-voltage ($I$-$V$) curve exhibits peaks due to the resonance between the EM field and the spatially modulated AC Josephson current density. This is called {it Fiske resonance}. Such a spatially modulated Josephson current density can be also induced by a non-uniform insulating barrier and the Fiske resonance appears without external magnetic field. This is called zero-field Fiske resonance (ZFFR). In this paper, we theoretically study the ZFFR coupled with spin-waves in a superconductor/ferromagnetic insulator/superconductor junction (ferromagnetic Josephson junction) with a non-uniform ferromagnetic insulating barrier. The resonant mode coupled with spin-waves can be induced without external magnetic field. We find that the $I$-$V$ curve shows resonant peaks associated with composite excitations of spin-waves and the EM field in the junction. The voltage at the resonance is obtained as a function of the normal modes of EM field. The ZFFRs coupled with spin-waves are found as peak structures in the DC Josephson current density as a function of bias voltage.
We study a superconductor-normal state-superconductor (SNS) Josephson junction along the edge of a quantum spin Hall insulator (QSHI) with a superconducting $pi$-phase across the junction. We solve self-consistently for the superconducting order parameter and find both real junctions, where the order parameter is fully real throughout the system, and junctions where the order parameter has a complex phase winding. Real junctions host two Majorana zero modes (MZMs), while phase-winding junctions have no subgap states close to zero energy. At zero temperature we find that the phase-winding solution always has the lowest free energy, which we establish being due to a strong proximity-effect into the N region. With increasing temperature this proximity-effect is dramatically decreased and we find a phase transition into a real junction with two MZMs.
Josephson radiation is a powerful method to probe Majorana zero modes in topological superconductors. Recently, Josephson radiation with half the Josephson frequency has been experimentally observed in a HgTe-based junction, possibly from Majorana zero modes. However, this radiation vanishes above a critical voltage, sharply contradicting previous theoretical results. In this work, we theoretically obtain a radiation spectrum quantitatively in agreement with the experiment after including the nonlinear dynamics of the Majorana states into the standard resistively shunted junction model. We further predict two new structures of the radiation spectrum for future experimental verification: an interrupted emission line and a chaotic regime. We develop a fixed-point analysis to understand all these features. Our results resolve an apparent discrepancy between theory and experiments, and will inspire reexamination of structures in radiation spectra of various topological Josephson junctions.

Experiments on the distributions of switching currents in Josephson junctions are sensitive probes of the mechanism by which a junction changes abruptly to a finite voltage state. At low temperatures data exhibit smooth and gradual deviations from the expectations of the classical theory of thermal activation over the barrier in the tilted washboard potential. In this paper it is shown that if a very small proportion of the noise energy entering the apparatus at room temperature survives filtering and reaches the sample, it can enhance the escape rate sufficiently to replicate experimental observations of the temperature dependence of the switching bias. This conjecture is successfully tested against published experimental data.

We consider the one-dimensional (1D) topological superconductor that may form in a planar superconductor-metal-superconductor Josephson junction in which the metal is is subjected to spin orbit coupling and to an in-plane magnetic field. This 1D topological superconductor has been the subject of recent theoretical and experimental attention. We examine the effect of perpendicular magnetic field and a supercurrent driven across the junction on the position and structure of the Majorana zero modes that are associated with the topological superconductor. In particular, we show that under certain conditions the Josephson vortices fractionalize to half-vortices, each carrying half of the superconducting flux quantum and a single Majorana zero mode. Furthemore, we show that the system allows for a current-controlled braiding of Majorana zero modes.
