In this paper, a holographic dark energy model, dubbed Ricci dark energy, is confronted with cosmological observational data from type Ia supernovae (SN Ia), baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) and cosmic microwave background (CMB). By using maximum likelihood method, it is found out that Ricci dark energy model is a viable candidate of dark energy model with the best fit parameters: $Omega_{m0}=0.34pm 0.04$, $alpha=0.38pm 0.03$ with $1sigma$ error. Here, $alpha$ is a dimensionless parameter related with Ricci dark energy $rho_{R}$ and Ricci scalar $R$, i.e., $rho_{R}propto alpha R$.

The braneworld model proposed by Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (DGP) leads to an accelerated universe without cosmological constant or other form of dark energy for the positive branch $(epsilon =+1)$. For the negative branch $(epsilon =-1)$ we have investigated the behavior of a model with an holographic Ricci-like dark energy and dark matter, where the IR cutoff takes the form $alpha H^2 + beta dot{H}$, being $H$ the Hubble parameter and $alpha$, $beta$ positive constants of the model. We perform an analytical study of the model in the late-time dark energy dominated epoch, where we obtain a solution for $r_cH(z)$, where $r_c$ is the leakage scale of gravity into the bulk, and conditions for the negative branch on the holographic parameters $alpha$ and $beta$, in order to hold the conditions of weak energy and accelerated universe. On the other hand, we compare the model versus the late-time cosmological data using the latest type Ia supernova sample of the Joint Light-curve Analysis (JLA), in order to constraint the holographic parameters in the negative branch, as well as $r_cH_0$ in the positive branch, where $H_0$ is the Hubble constant. We find that the model has a good fit to the data and that the most likely values for $(r_cH_0, alpha, beta)$ lie in the permitted region found from an analytical solution in a dark energy dominated universe. We give a justification to use holographic cut-off in 4D for the dark energy in the 5 dimensional DGP model. Finally, using the Bayesian Information Criterion we find that this model it is disfavored compared with the flat $Lambda$CDM model.
We consider the dynamics of a cosmological substratum of pressureless matter and holographic dark energy with a cutoff length proportional to the Ricci scale. Stability requirements for the matter perturbations are shown to single out a model with a fixed relation between the present matter fraction $Omega_{m0}$ and the present value $omega_{0}$ of the equation-of-state parameter of the dark energy. This model has the same number of free parameters as the $Lambda$CDM model but it has no $Lambda$CDM limit. We discuss the consistency between background observations and the mentioned stability-guaranteeing parameter combination.
We present a model of holographic dark energy in which the Infrared cutoff is determined by both the Ricci and the Gauss-Bonnet invariants. Such a construction has the significant advantage that the Infrared cutoff, and consequently the holographic dark energy density, does not depend on the future or the past evolution of the universe, but only on its current features, and moreover it is determined by invariants, whose role is fundamental in gravitational theories. We extract analytical solutions for the behavior of the dark energy density and equation-of-state parameters as functions of the redshift. These reveal the usual thermal history of the universe, with the sequence of radiation, matter and dark energy epochs, resulting in the future to a complete dark energy domination. The corresponding dark energy equation-of-state parameter can lie in the quintessence or phantom regime, or experience the phantom-divide crossing during the cosmological evolution, and its asymptotic value can be quintessence-like, phantom-like, or be exactly equal to the cosmological-constant value. Finally, we extract the constraints on the model parameters that arise from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis.
We use the Constitution supernova, the baryon acoustic oscillation, the cosmic microwave background, and the Hubble parameter data to analyze the evolution property of dark energy. We obtain different results when we fit different baryon acoustic oscillation data combined with the Constitution supernova data to the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model. We find that the difference stems from the different values of $Omega_{m0}$. We also fit the observational data to the model independent piecewise constant parametrization. Four redshift bins with boundaries at $z=0.22$, 0.53, 0.85 and 1.8 were chosen for the piecewise constant parametrization of the equation of state parameter $w(z)$ of dark energy. We find no significant evidence for evolving $w(z)$. With the addition of the Hubble parameter, the constraint on the equation of state parameter at high redshift isimproved by 70%. The marginalization of the nuisance parameter connected to the supernova distance modulus is discussed.

In the present paper, we investigate three scalar fields, qu field, phantom field and tachyon field, to explore the source of dark energy, using the Gaussian processes method from the background data and perturbation growth rate data. The corresponding reconstructions all suggest that the dark energy should be dynamical. Moreover, the quintom field, a combination between qu field and phantom field, is powerfully favored by the data within 68% confidence level. Using the mean values of scalar field $phi$ and potential $V$, we fit the function $V(phi)$ in different fields. The fitted results imply that potential $V(phi)$ in each scalar field may be a double exponential function or Gaussian function. The Gaussian processes reconstructions also indicate that the tachyon scalar field cannot be convincingly favored by the data and is at a disadvantage to describe the dark energy.
