We discuss the influence of periodic orbits on the dissociation of a model diatomic molecule driven by a strong bichromatic laser fields. Through the stability of periodic orbits we analyze the dissociation probability when parameters like the two amplitudes and the phase lag between the laser fields, are varied. We find that qualitative features of dissociation can be reproduced by considering a small set of short periodic orbits. The good agreement with direct simulations demonstrates the importance of bifurcations of short periodic orbits in the dissociation dynamics of diatomic molecules.

We investigate the multiphoton ionization of hydrogen driven by a strong bichromatic microwave field. In a regime where classical and quantum simulations agree, periodic orbit analysis captures the mechanism: Through the linear stability of periodic orbits we match qualitatively the variation of experimental ionization rates with control parameters such as the amplitudes of the two modes of the field or their relative phases. Moreover, we discuss an empirical formula which reproduces quantum simulations to a high degree of accuracy. This quantitative agreement shows the mechanism by which short periodic orbits organize the dynamics in multiphoton ionization. We also analyze the effect of longer pulse durations. Finally we compare our results with those based on the peak amplitude rule. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses are implemented for different mode locked fields. In parameter space, the localization of the period doubling and halving allows one to predict the set of parameters (amplitudes and phase lag) where ionization occurs.
We study the magnetization dynamics of a molecular magnet driven by static and variable magnetic fields within a semiclassical treatment. The underling analyzes is valid in a regime, when the energy is definitely lower than the anisotropy barrier, but still a substantial number of states are excited. We find the phase space to contain a separatrix line. Solutions far from it are oscillatory whereas the separatrix solution is of a soliton type. States near the separatrix are extremely sensitive to small perturbations, a fact which we utilize for dynamically induced magnetization switching.
We study the presence in the Lozi map of a type of abrupt order-to-order and order-to-chaos transitions which are mediated by an attractor made of a continuum of neutrally stable limit cycles, all with the same period.

We present a data-driven approach for the prediction of the electric dipole moment of diatomic molecules, which is one of the most relevant molecular properties. In particular, we apply Gaussian process regression to a novel dataset to show that dipole moments of diatomic molecules can be learned, and hence predicted, with a relative error <5%. The dataset contains the dipole moment of 162 diatomic molecules, the most exhaustive and unbiased dataset of dipole moments up to date. Our findings show that the dipole moment of diatomic molecules depends on atomic properties of the constituents atoms: electron affinity and ionization potential, as well as on (a feature related to) the first derivative of the electronic kinetic energy at the equilibrium distance.
We report on transcritical bifurcations of periodic orbits in non-integrable two-dimensional Hamiltonian systems. We discuss their existence criteria and some of their properties using a recent mathematical description of transcritical bifurcations in families of symplectic maps. We then present numerical examples of transcritical bifurcations in a class of generalized Henon-Heiles Hamiltonians and illustrate their stabilities and unfoldings under various perturbations of the Hamiltonians. We demonstrate that for Hamiltonians containing straight-line librating orbits, the transcritical bifurcation of these orbits is the typical case which occurs also in the absence of any discrete symmetries, while their isochronous pitchfork bifurcation is an exception. We determine the normal forms of both types of bifurcations and derive the uniform approximation required to include transcritically bifurcating orbits in the semiclassical trace formula for the density of states of the quantum Hamiltonian. We compute the coarse-grained density of states in a specific example both semiclassically and quantum mechanically and find excellent agreement of the results.
