Let G be an undirected graph on n vertices and let S(G) be the set of all real symmetric n x n matrices whose nonzero off-diagonal entries occur in exactly the positions corresponding to the edges of G. The inverse inertia problem for G asks which inertias can be attained by a matrix in S(G). We give a complete answer to this question for trees in terms of a new family of graph parameters, the maximal disconnection numbers of a graph. We also give a formula for the inertia set of a graph with a cut vertex in terms of inertia sets of proper subgraphs. Finally, we give an example of a graph that is not inertia-balanced, and investigate restrictions on the inertia set of any graph.

Let $mathbb{F}$ be an infinite field with characteristic different from two. For a graph $G=(V,E)$ with $V={1,...,n}$, let $S(G;mathbb{F})$ be the set of all symmetric $ntimes n$ matrices $A=[a_{i,j}]$ over $mathbb{F}$ with $a_{i,j} ot=0$, $i ot=j$ if and only if $ijin E$. We show that if $G$ is the complement of a partial $k$-tree and $mgeq k+2$, then for all nonsingular symmetric $mtimes m$ matrices $K$ over $mathbb{F}$, there exists an $mtimes n$ matrix $U$ such that $U^T K Uin S(G;mathbb{F})$. As a corollary we obtain that, if $k+2leq mleq n$ and $G$ is the complement of a partial $k$-tree, then for any two nonnegative integers $p$ and $q$ with $p+q=m$, there exists a matrix in $S(G;reals)$ with $p$ positive and $q$ negative eigenvalues.
The inverse eigenvalue problem of a graph $G$ aims to find all possible spectra for matrices whose $(i,j)$-entry, for $i eq j$, is nonzero precisely when $i$ is adjacent to $j$. In this work, the inverse eigenvalue problem is completely solved for a subfamily of clique-path graphs, in particular for lollipop graphs and generalized barbell graphs. For a matrix $A$ with associated graph $G$, a new technique utilizing the strong spectral property is introduced, allowing us to construct a matrix $A$ whose graph is obtained from $G$ by appending a clique while arbitrary list of eigenvalues is added to the spectrum. Consequently, many spectra are shown realizable for block graphs.
For a graph $G$, we associate a family of real symmetric matrices, $mathcal{S}(G)$, where for any $M in mathcal{S}(G)$, the location of the nonzero off-diagonal entries of $M$ are governed by the adjacency structure of $G$. The ordered multiplicity Inverse Eigenvalue Problem of a Graph (IEPG) is concerned with finding all attainable ordered lists of eigenvalue multiplicities for matrices in $mathcal{S}(G)$. For connected graphs of order six, we offer significant progress on the IEPG, as well as a complete solution to the ordered multiplicity IEPG. We also show that while $K_{m,n}$ with $min(m,n)ge 3$ attains a particular ordered multiplicity list, it cannot do so with arbitrary spectrum.
A caterpillar graph $T(p_1, ldots, p_r)$ of order $n= r+sum_{i=1}^r p_i$, $rgeq 2$, is a tree such that removing all its pendent vertices gives rise to a path of order $r$. In this paper we establish a necessary and sufficient condition for a real number to be an eigenvalue of the Randic matrix of $T(p_1, ldots, p_r)$. This result is applied to determine the extremal caterpillars for the Randic energy of $T(p_1,ldots, p_r)$ for cases $r=2$ (the double star) and $r=3$. We characterize the extremal caterpillars for $r=2$. Moreover, we study the family of caterpillars $Tbig(p,n-p-q-3,qbig)$ of order $n$, where $q$ is a function of $p$, and we characterize the extremal caterpillars for three cases: $q=p$, $q=n-p-b-3$ and $q=b$, for $bin {1,ldots,n-6}$ fixed. Some illustrative examples are included.

Ramanujan graphs have fascinating properties and history. In this paper we explore a parallel notion of Ramanujan digraphs, collecting relevant results from old and recent papers, and proving some new ones. Almost-normal Ramanujan digraphs are shown to be of special interest, as they are extreme in the sense of an Alon-Boppana theorem, and they have remarkable combinatorial features, such as small diameter, Chernoff bound for sampling, optimal covering time and sharp cutoff. Other topics explored are the connection to Cayley graphs and digraphs, the spectral radius of universal covers, Alons conjecture for random digraphs, and explicit constructions of almost-normal Ramanujan digraphs.
