This paper is a response to an article (R. de la Madrid, Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 39,9255-9268 (2006)) recently published in Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical. The article claims that the theory of resonances and decaying states based on certain rigged Hilbert spaces of Hardy functions is physically untenable. In this paper we show that all of the key conclusions of the cited article are the result of either the errors in mathematical reasoning or an inadequate understanding of the literature on the subject.
A new approach leading to the formulation of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation for field theories is investigated within the framework of jet-bundles and multi-symplectic manifolds. An algorithm associating classes of solutions to given sets of boundary conditions of the field equations is provided. The paper also puts into evidence the intrinsic limits of the Hamilton-Jacobi method as an algorithm to determine families of solutions of the field equations, showing how the choice of the boundary data is often limited by compatibility conditions.
We extend the recursion formula for matrix Bessel functions, which we obtained previously, to superspace. It is sufficient to do this for the unitary orthosymplectic supergroup. By direct computations, we show that fairly explicit results can be obtained, at least up to dimension $8times 8$ for the supermatrices. Since we introduce a new technique, we discuss various of its aspects in some detail.
By making use of some techniques based upon certain inverse new pairs of symbolic operators, the author investigate several decomposition formulas associated with Humbert hypergeometric functions $Phi_1 $, $Phi_2 $, $Phi_3 $, $Psi_1 $, $Psi_2 $, $Xi_1 $ and $Xi_2 $. These operational representations are constructed and applied in order to derive the corresponding decomposition formulas. With the help of these inverse pairs of symbolic operators, a total 34 decomposition formulas are found. Euler type integrals, which are connected with Humberts functions are found.
We show that twisting of an infinite straight three-dimensional tube with non-circular cross-section gives rise to a Hardy-type inequality for the associated Dirichlet Laplacian. As an application we prove certain stability of the spectrum of the Dirichlet Laplacian in locally and mildly bent tubes. Namely, it is known that any local bending, no matter how small, generates eigenvalues below the essential spectrum of the Laplacian in the tubes with arbitrary cross-sections rotated along a reference curve in an appropriate way. In the present paper we show that for any other rotation some critical strength of the bending is needed in order to induce a non-empty discrete spectrum.
Reflectionless CMV matrices are studied using scattering theory. By changing a single Verblunsky coefficient a full-line CMV matrix can be decoupled and written as the sum of two half-line operators. Explicit formulas for the scattering matrix associated to the coupled and decoupled operators are derived. In particular, it is shown that a CMV matrix is reflectionless iff the scattering matrix is off-diagonal which in turn provides a short proof of an important result of [Breuer-Ryckman-Simon]. These developments parallel those recently obtained for Jacobi matrices.
