We apply a simple analytical criterion for locating critical temperatures to Potts models on square and triangular lattices. In the self-dual case, i.e. on the square lattice we reproduce known exact values of the critical temperature and derive the internal energy of the model at the critical point. For the Potts model on the triangular lattice we obtain very good numerical estimate of the critical temperature and also of the internal energy at the critical point.
We present a technique, which we call etching, which we use to study the harmonic measure of Fortuin-Kasteleyn clusters in the Q-state Potts model for Q=1-4. The harmonic measure is the probability distribution of random walkers diffusing onto the perimeter of a cluster. We use etching to study regions of clusters which are extremely unlikely to be hit by random walkers, having hitting probabilities down to 10^(-4600). We find good agreement between the theoretical predictions of Duplantier and our numerical results for the generalized dimension D(q), including regions of small and negative q.
The invaded cluster algorithm, a new method for simulating phase transitions, is described in detail. Theoretical, albeit nonrigorous, justification of the method is presented and the algorithm is applied to Potts models in two and three dimensions. The algorithm is shown to be useful for both first-order and continuous transitions and evidently provides an efficient way to distinguish between these possibilities. The dynamic properties of the invaded cluster algorithm are studied. Numerical evidence suggests that the algorithm has no critical slowing for Ising models.
We study quantum critical behavior in three dimensional lattice Gross-Neveu models containing two massless Dirac fermions. We focus on two models with SU(2) flavor symmetry and either a $Z_2$ or a U(1) chiral symmetry. Both models could not be studied earlier due to sign problems. We use the fermion bag approach which is free of sign problems and compute critical exponents at the phase transitions. We estimate $ u = 0.83(1)$, $eta = 0.62(1)$, $eta_psi = 0.38(1)$ in the $Z_2$ and $ u = 0.849(8)$, $eta = 0.633(8)$, $eta_psi = 0.373(3)$ in the U(1) model.
We build the Z$_{3}$ invariants fusion rules associated to the (D$_{4}$,A$_{6}$) conformal algebra. This algebra is known to describe the tri-critical Potts model. The 4-pt correlation functions of critical fields are developed in the bootstrap approach, and in the other hand, they are written in term of integral representation of the conformal blocks. By comparing both the expressions, one can determine the structure constantes of the operator algebra.
We revisit the issue of worldline formulations for the q-state Potts model and discuss a worldline representation in arbitrary dimensions which also allows for magnetic terms. For vanishing magnetic field we implement a Hodge decomposition for resolving the constraints with dual variables, which in two dimensions implies self-duality as a simple corollary. We present exploratory 2-d Monte Carlo simulations in terms of the worldlines, based on worm algorithms. We study both, vanishing and non-zero magnetic field, and explore q between q = 2 and q = 30, i.e., Potts models with continuous, as well as strong first order transitions.
