Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmological models with a massive scalar field are studied in the presence of hydrodynamical matter in the form of a perfect fluid. The ratio of the number of solutions without inflation to the total number of solutions is evaluated, depending on the fluid density. It is shown that in a closed model this ratio can reach 60%, by contrast to $sim 30 %$ in models without fluid.

The chaotic behavior in FRW cosmology with a scalar field is studied for scalar field potentials less steep than quadratic. We describe a transition to much stronger chaos for appropriate parameters of such potentials. The range of parameters which allows this transition is specified. The influence of ordinary matter on the chaotic properties of this model is also discussed.

The results on chaos in FRW cosmology with a massive scalar field are extended to another scalar field potential. It is shown that for sufficiently steep potentials the chaos disappears. A simple and rather accurate analytical criterion for the chaos to disappear is given. On the contrary, for gently sloping potentials the transition to a strong chaotic regime can occur. Two examples, concerning asymptotically flat and Damour-Mukhanov potentials are given.

We shall discuss the general relativistic generation of spikes in a massless scalar field or stiff perfect fluid model. We first investigate orthogonally transitive (OT) $G_2$ stiff fluid spike models both heuristically and numerically, and give a new exact OT $G_2$ stiff fluid spike solution. We then present a new two-parameter family of non-OT $G_2$ stiff fluid spike solutions, obtained by the generalization of non-OT $G_2$ vacuum spike solutions to the stiff fluid case by applying Gerochs transformation on a Jacobs seed. The dynamics of these new stiff fluid spike solutions is qualitatively different from that of the vacuum spike solutions, in that the matter (stiff fluid) feels the spike directly and the stiff fluid spike solution can end up with a permanent spike. We then derive the evolution equations of non-OT $G_2$ stiff fluid models, including a second perfect fluid, in full generality, and briefly discuss some of their qualitative properties and their potential numerical analysis. Finally, we discuss how a fluid, and especially a stiff fluid or massless scalar field, affects the physics of the generation of spikes.
Assuming that a scalar field controls the inflationary era, we examine the combined effects of string and $f(R)$ gravity corrections on the inflationary dynamics of canonical scalar field inflation, imposing the constraint that the speed of the primordial gravitational waves is equal to that of lights. Particularly, we study the inflationary dynamics of an Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in the presence of $alpha R^2$ corrections, where $alpha$ is a free coupling parameter. As it was the case in the pure Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, the realization that the gravitational waves propagate through spacetime with the velocity of light, imposes the constraint that the Gauss-Bonnet coupling function $xi(phi)$ obeys the differential equation $ddotxi=Hdotxi$, where $H$ is the Hubble rate. Subsequently, a relation for the time derivative of the scalar field is extracted which implies that the scalar functions of the model, which are the Gauss-Bonnet coupling and the scalar potential, are interconnected and simply designating one of them specifies the other immediately. In this framework, it is useful to freely designate $xi(phi)$ and extract the corresponding scalar potential from the equations of motion but the opposite is still feasible. We demonstrate that the model can produce a viable inflationary phenomenology and for a wide range of the free parameters. Also, a mentionable issue is that when the coupling parameter $alpha$ of the $R^2$ correction term is $alpha<10^{-3}$ in Planck Units, the $R^2$ term is practically negligible and one obtains the same equations of motion as in the pure Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory, however the dynamics still change, since now the time derivative of $frac{partial f}{partial R}$ is nonzero.
Using the Ponce de Leon background metric, which describes a 5D universe in an apparent vacuum: $bar{G}_{AB}=0$, we study the effective 4D evolution of both, the inflaton and gauge-invariant scalar metric fluctuations, in the recently introduced model of space time matter inflation.
