We present the optical reflectance and conductivity spectra for non-oxide antiperovskite superconductor $MgCNi_{3}$ at different temperatures. The reflectance drops gradually over a large energy scale up to 33,000 cm$^{-1}$, with the presence of several wiggles. The reflectance has slight temperature dependence at low frequency but becomes temperature independent at high frequency. The optical conductivity shows a Drude response at low frequencies and four broad absorption features in the frequency range from 600 $cm^{-1}$ to 33,000 $cm^{-1}$. We illustrate that those features can be well understood from the intra- and interband transitions between different components of Ni 3d bands which are hybridized with C 2p bands. There is a good agreement between our experimental data and the first-principle band structure calculations.

The effect of radiation-induced disordering in a nuclear reactor (fast neutrons fluence Phi = 5cdot10^{19} cm^2, T_{text{irr}} = 340 K) on resistivity rho, superconducting transition temperature T_C and upper critical field H_{C_2} of polycrystalline MgCNi_3 samples was investigated. It was found that T_C decreases under irradiation from 6.5 to 2.9 K and completely recovers after annealing at 600 ^circC. Temperature dependences rho(T) are characteristic of compounds with strong electron-phonon interaction. The dH_{C_2}/dT behaviour testifies to a considerable decrease in density of electronic state at Fermi level N(E_F) in the course of disordering.
We present $beta$-FeSe magnetotransport data, and describe them theoretically. Using a simplified microscopic model with two correlated effective orbitals, we determined the normal state electrical conductivity and Hall coefficient, using Kubo formalism. With model parameters relevant for Fe-chalcogenides, we describe the observed effect of the structural transition on the ab-plane electrical resistivity, as well as on the magnetoresistance. Temperature-dependent Hall coefficient data were measured at 16 Tesla, and their theoretical description improves upon inclusion of moderate electron correlations. We confirm the effect of the structural transition on the electronic structure, finding deformation-induced band splittings comparable to those reported in angle-resolved photoemission.
We report 139La, 57Fe and 75As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements on powders of the new LaO1-xFxFeAs superconductor for x = 0 and x = 0.1 at temperatures up to 480 K, and compare our measured NQR spectra with local density approximation (LDA) calculations. For all three nuclei in the x = 0.1 material, it is found that the local Knight shift increases monotonically with an increase in temperature, and scales with the macroscopic susceptibility, suggesting a single magnetic degree of freedom. Surprisingly, the spin lattice relaxation rates for all nuclei also scale with one another, despite the fact that the form factors for each site sample different regions of q-space. This result suggests a lack of any q-space structure in the dynamical spin susceptibility that might be expected in the presence of antiferromagnetic correlations. Rather, our results are more compatible with simple quasi-particle scattering. Furthermore, we find that the increase in the electric field gradient at the As cannot be accounted for by LDA calculations, suggesting that structural changes, in particular the position of the As in the unit cell, dominate the NQR response.

In this article, I review progress towards an understanding of the normal state (in-plane) transport properties of high-$T_c$ cuprates in the light of recent developments in both spectroscopic and transport measurement techniques. Against a backdrop of mounting evidence for anisotropic single-particle lifetimes in cuprate superconductors, new results have emerged that advocate similar momentum dependence in the transport decay rate $Gamma$({bf k}). In addition, enhancement of the energy scale (up to the bare bandwidth) over which spectroscopic information on the quasiparticle response can be obtained has led to the discovery of new, unforeseen features that surprisingly, may have a significant bearing on the transport properties at the dc limit. With these two key developments in mind, I consider here whether all the ingredients necessary for a complete phenomenological description of the anomalous normal state transport properties of high-$T_c$ cuprates are now in place.
The influence of room-temperature annealing on the parameters of the basal-plane electrical resistance of underdoped YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-delta}$ and HoBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-delta}$ single crystals in the normal and superconducting states is investigated. The form of the derivatives $drho(T)/dT$ makes it possible to determine the onset temperature of the fluctuation conductivity and indicates a nonuniform distribution of the labile oxygen. Annealing has been revealed to lead to a monotonic decrease in the oxygen deficiency, that primarily manifests itself as a decrease of the residual resistance, an increase of $T_c$, and a decrease of the Debye temperature.
