For topological materials with coexistence of Weyl nodes and nodal rings, the surface-state configuration and connection are unique yet have never been studied and discussed before. In this paper, we predict a ferromagnetic (FM) material, Cs2MoCl6, with coexistence of Weyl and nodering fermions in its spinful FM electronic band structure, which is unusual since FM materials are very rare in nature and node-ring band crossings will usually open a gap when spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is taken into consideration. We find that the surface states of Cs2MoCl6 show different properties along different directions, i.e, the surface states are in the drumhead shape showing the node-ring property on the (001) surface and in the helicoid shape showing the Weyl property on the (010) surface. Interestingly, both the drumhead surface states and the helicoid surface states will cross the projected points of the Weyl and nodal ring along different directions. In particular, helicoid surface states on the (010) surface will meet the nodal ring tangentially, with their shapes change abruptly as a function of the energy. We implement both first-principle calculation and an analytical model to understand the unique surface-state connection for systems with the coexistence of Weyl nodes and nodal rings (or nodal lines). This result is universal and irrespective of the presence/absence of and time-reversal symmetry (T).

As a novel type of fermionic state, hybrid nodal loop with the coexistence of both type-I and type- II band crossings has attracted intense research interest. However, it remains a challenge to realize hybrid nodal loop in both two-dimensional (2D) materials and in ferromagnetic (FM) materials. Here, we propose the first FM hybrid nodal loop in 2D CrN monolayer. We show that the material has a high Curie temperature (> 600 K) FM ground state, with the out-of-plane [001] magnetization. It shows a half-metallic band structure with two bands in the spin-up channel crossing each other near the Fermi level. These bands produce both type-I and type-II band crossings, which form a fully spin-polarized hybrid nodal loop. We find the nodal loop is protected by the mirror symmetry and robust against spin-orbit coupling (SOC). An effective Hamiltonian characterizing the hybrid nodal loop is established. We further find the configuration of nodal loop can be shifted under external perturbations such as strain. Most remarkably, we demonstrate that both type-I and type-II Weyl nodes can be realized from such FM hybrid nodal loop by simply shifting the magnetization from out-of-plane to in-plane. Our work provides an excellent candidate to realize FM hybrid nodal loop and Weyl fermions in 2D material, and is also promising for related topological applications with their intriguing properties.

This year, Liu textit{et al}. [Phys. Rev. B textbf{104}, L041405 (2021)] proposed a new class of topological phonons (TPs; i.e., one-nodal surface (NS) phonons), which provides an effective route for realizing one-NSs in phonon systems. In this work, based on first-principles calculations and symmetry analysis, we extended the types of NS phonons from one- to three-NS phonons. The existence of three-NS phonons (with NS states on the $k_{i}$ = $pi$ ($i$ = $x$, $y$, $z$) planes in the three-dimensional Brillouin zone (BZ)) is enforced by the combination of two-fold screw symmetry and time reversal symmetry. We screened all 230 space groups (SGs) and found nine candidate groups (with the SG numbers (Nos.) 19, 61, 62, 92, 96, 198, 205, 212, and 213) hosting three-NS phonons. Interestingly, with the help of first-principles calculations, we identified $P2_{1}$2$_{1}$2$_{1}$-type YCuS$_{2}$ (SG No. 19), $Pbca$-type NiAs$_{2}$ (SG No. 61), $Pnma$-type SrZrO$_{2}$ (SG No. 62), $P4_{1}$2$_{1}$2-type LiAlO$_{2}$ (SG No. 92), $P4_{3}$2$_{1}$2-type ZnP$_{2}$ (SG No. 96), $P2_{1}$3-type NiSbSe (SG No. 198), $Pabar{3}$-type As$_{2}$Pt (SG No. 205), $P4_{3}$32-type BaSi$_{2}$ (SG No. 212), and $P4_{1}$32-type CsBe$_{2}$F$_{5}$ (SG No. 213) as realistic materials hosting three-NS phonons. The results of our presented study enrich the class of NS states in phonon systems and provide concrete guidance for searching for three-NS phonons and singular Weyl point phonons in realistic materials.
Magnetic Weyl fermions, which occur in magnets, have novel transport phenomena related to pairs of Weyl nodes, and they are, of both, scientific and technological interest, with the potential for use in high-performance electronics, spintronics and quantum computing. Although magnetic Weyl fermions have been predicted to exist in various oxides, evidence for their existence in oxide materials remains elusive. SrRuO3, a 4d ferromagnetic metal often used as an epitaxial conducting layer in oxide heterostructures, provides a promising opportunity to seek for the existence of magnetic Weyl fermions. Advanced oxide thin film preparation techniques, driven by machine learning technologies, may allow access to such topological matter. Here we show direct quantum transport evidence of magnetic Weyl fermions in an epitaxial ferromagnetic oxide SrRuO3: unsaturated linear positive magnetoresistance (MR), chiral-anomaly-induced negative MR, Pi Berry phase accumulated along cyclotron orbits, light cyclotron masses and high quantum mobility of about 10000 cm2/Vs. We employed machine-learning-assisted molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to synthesize SrRuO3 films whose quality is sufficiently high to probe their intrinsic quantum transport properties. We also clarified the disorder dependence of the transport of the magnetic Weyl fermions, and provided a brand-new diagram for the Weyl transport, which gives a clear guideline for accessing the topologically nontrivial transport phenomena. Our results establish SrRuO3 as a magnetic Weyl semimetal and topological oxide electronics as a new research field.
Recently, two-dimensional layered electrides have emerged as a new class of materials which possess anionic electron layers in the interstitial spaces between cationic layers. Here, based on first-principles calculations, we discover a time-reversal-symmetry-breaking Weyl semimetal phase in a unique two-dimensional layered ferromagnetic (FM) electride Gd$_2$C. It is revealed that the crystal field mixes the interstitial electron states and Gd 5$d$ orbitals near the Fermi energy to form band
Band-crossings occurring on a mirror plane are compelled to form a nodal loop in the momentum space without spin-orbit coupling (SOC). In the presence of other equivalent mirror planes, multiple such nodal loops can combine to form interesting nodal-link structures. Here, based on first-principles calculations and an effective $mathbf{k.p}$ model analysis, we show that CaAuAs hosts a unique starfruit-like nodal-link structure in the bulk electronic dispersion in the absence of SOC. This nodal-link is comprised of three nodal loops, which cross each other at the time-reversal-invariant momentum point $A$. When the SOC is turned on, the nodal loops are gapped out, resulting in a stable Dirac semimetal state with a pair of Dirac points along the $mathrm{Gamma-A}$ direction in the Brillouin zone. The Dirac points are protected by the combination of time reversal, inversion, and $C_3$ rotation symmetries. We show how a systematic elimination of the symmetry constraints yields a Weyl semimetal and eventually a topological insulator state.
