The rapid advancement in deep learning makes the differentiation of authentic and manipulated facial images and video clips unprecedentedly harder. The underlying technology of manipulating facial appearances through deep generative approaches, enunciated as DeepFake that have emerged recently by promoting a vast number of malicious face manipulation applications. Subsequently, the need of other sort of techniques that can assess the integrity of digital visual content is indisputable to reduce the impact of the creations of DeepFake. A large body of research that are performed on DeepFake creation and detection create a scope of pushing each other beyond the current status. This study presents challenges, research trends, and directions related to DeepFake creation and detection techniques by reviewing the notable research in the DeepFake domain to facilitate the development of more robust approaches that could deal with the more advance DeepFake in the future.

The rapid advances in deep generative models over the past years have led to highly {realistic media, known as deepfakes,} that are commonly indistinguishable from real to human eyes. These advances make assessing the authenticity of visual data increasingly difficult and pose a misinformation threat to the trustworthiness of visual content in general. Although recent work has shown strong detection accuracy of such deepfakes, the success largely relies on identifying frequency artifacts in the generated images, which will not yield a sustainable detection approach as generative models continue evolving and closing the gap to real images. In order to overcome this issue, we propose a novel fake detection that is designed to re-synthesize testing images and extract visual cues for detection. The re-synthesis procedure is flexible, allowing us to incorporate a series of visual tasks - we adopt super-resolution, denoising and colorization as the re-synthesis. We demonstrate the improved effectiveness, cross-GAN generalization, and robustness against perturbations of our approach in a variety of detection scenarios involving multiple generators over CelebA-HQ, FFHQ, and LSUN datasets. In this paper, we developed the system for recognizing the orchid species by using the images of flower. We used MSRM (Maximal Similarity based on Region Merging) method for segmenting the flower object from the background and extracting the shape feature such as the distance from the edge to the centroid point of the flower, aspect ratio, roundness, moment invariant, fractal dimension and also extract color feature. We used HSV color feature with ignoring the V value. To retrieve the image, we used Support Vector Machine (SVM) method. Orchid is a unique flower. It has a part of flower called lip (labellum) that distinguishes it from other flowers even from other types of orchids. Thus, in this paper, we proposed to do feature extraction not only on flower region but also on lip (labellum) region. The result shows that our proposed method can increase the accuracy value of content based flower image retrieval for orchid species up to $pm$ 14%. The most dominant feature is Centroid Contour Distance, Moment Invariant and HSV Color. The system accuracy is 85,33% in validation phase and 79,33% in testing phase.
Deepfakes have become a critical social problem, and detecting them is of utmost importance. Also, deepfake generation methods are advancing, and it is becoming harder to detect. While many deepfake detection models can detect different types of deepfakes separately, they perform poorly on generalizing the detection performance over multiple types of deepfake. This motivates us to develop a generalized model to detect different types of deepfakes. Therefore, in this work, we introduce a practical digital forensic tool to detect different types of deepfakes simultaneously and propose Transfer learning-based Autoencoder with Residuals (TAR). The ultimate goal of our work is to develop a unified model to detect various types of deepfake videos with high accuracy, with only a small number of training samples that can work well in real-world settings. We develop an autoencoder-based detection model with Residual blocks and sequentially perform transfer learning to detect different types of deepfakes simultaneously. Our approach achieves a much higher generalized detection performance than the state-of-the-art methods on the FaceForensics++ dataset. In addition, we evaluate our model on 200 real-world Deepfake-in-the-Wild (DW) videos of 50 celebrities available on the Internet and achieve 89.49% zero-shot accuracy, which is significantly higher than the best baseline model (gaining 10.77%), demonstrating and validating the practicability of our approach.
We present an automated method for measuring media bias. Inferring which newspaper published a given article, based only on the frequencies with which it uses different phrases, leads to a conditional probability distribution whose analysis lets us automatically map newspapers and phrases into a bias space. By analyzing roughly a million articles from roughly a hundred newspapers for bias in dozens of news topics, our method maps newspapers into a two-dimensional bias landscape that agrees well with previous bias classifications based on human judgement. One dimension can be interpreted as traditional left-right bias, the other as establishment bias. This means that although news bias is inherently political, its measurement need not be.
Automatic clinical diagnosis of retinal diseases has emerged as a promising approach to facilitate discovery in areas with limited access to specialists. We propose a novel visual-assisted diagnosis hybrid model based on the support vector machine (SVM) and deep neural networks (DNNs). The model incorporates complementary strengths of DNNs and SVM. Furthermore, we present a new clinical retina label collection for ophthalmology incorporating 32 retina diseases classes. Using EyeNet, our model achieves 89.73% diagnosis accuracy and the model performance is comparable to the professional ophthalmologists.
