The 6G vision is envisaged to enable agile network expansion and rapid deployment of new on-demand microservices (i.e., visibility services for data traffic management, mobile edge computing services) closer to the networks edge IoT devices. However, providing one of the critical features of network visibility services, i.e., data flow prediction in the network, is challenging at the edge devices within a dynamic cloud-native environment as the traffic flow characteristics are random and sporadic. To provide the AI-native services for the 6G vision, we propose a novel edge-native framework to provide an intelligent prognosis technique for data traffic management in this paper. The prognosis model uses long short-term memory (LSTM)-based encoder-decoder deep learning, which we train on real time-series multivariate data records collected from the edge $mu$-boxes of a selected testbed network. Our result accurately predicts the statistical characteristics of data traffic and verify against the ground truth observations. Moreover, we validate our novel framework model with two performance metrics for each feature of the multivariate data.
In this letter, we study an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-mounted mobile edge computing network, where the UAV executes computational tasks offloaded from mobile terminal users (TUs) and the motion of each TU follows a Gauss-Markov random model. To ensure the quality-of-service (QoS) of each TU, the UAV with limited energy dynamically plans its trajectory according to the locations of mobile TUs. Towards this end, we formulate the problem as a Markov decision process, wherein the UAV trajectory and UAV-TU association are modeled as the parameters to be optimized. To maximize the system reward and meet the QoS constraint, we develop a QoS-based action selection policy in the proposed algorithm based on double deep Q-network. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm converges more quickly and achieves a higher sum throughput than conventional algorithms.
Channel estimation for hybrid Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems at Millimeter-Waves (mmW)/sub-THz is a fundamental, despite challenging, prerequisite for an efficient design of hybrid MIMO precoding/combining. Most works propose sequential search algorithms, e.g., Compressive Sensing (CS), that are most suited to static channels and consequently cannot apply to highly dynamic scenarios such as Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X). To address the latter ones, we leverage textit{recurrent vehicle passages} to design a novel Multi Vehicular (MV) hybrid MIMO channel estimation suited for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) systems. Our approach derives the analog precoder/combiner through a MV beam alignment procedure. For the digital precoder/combiner, we adapt the Low-Rank (LR) channel estimation method to learn the position-dependent eigenmodes of the received digital signal (after beamforming), which is used to estimate the compressed channel in the communication phase. Extensive numerical simulations, obtained with ray-tracing channel data and realistic vehicle trajectories, demonstrate the benefits of our solution in terms of both achievable Spectral Efficiency (SE) and Mean Square Error (MSE) compared to the Unconstrained Maximum Likelihood (U-ML) estimate of the compressed digital channel, making it suitable for both 5G and future 6G systems. Most notably, in some scenarios, we obtain the performance of the optimal Fully Digital (FD) systems.
This paper studies fast downlink beamforming algorithms using deep learning in multiuser multiple-input-single-output systems where each transmit antenna at the base station has its own power constraint. We focus on the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) balancing problem which is quasi-convex but there is no efficient solution available. We first design a fast subgradient algorithm that can achieve near-optimal solution with reduced complexity. We then propose a deep neural network structure to learn the optimal beamforming based on convolutional networks and exploitation of the duality of the original problem. Two strategies of learning various dual variables are investigated with different accuracies, and the corresponding recovery of the original solution is facilitated by the subgradient algorithm. We also develop a generalization method of the proposed algorithms so that they can adapt to the varying number of users and antennas without re-training. We carry out intensive numerical simulations and testbed experiments to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms. Results show that the proposed algorithms achieve close to optimal solution in simulations with perfect channel information and outperform the alleged theoretically optimal solution in experiments, illustrating a better performance-complexity tradeoff than existing schemes.
Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has emerged as a promising technology for achieving high spectrum and energy efficiency in future wireless communication networks. In this paper, we investigate an RIS-aided single-cell multi-user mobile edge computing (MEC) system where an RIS is deployed to support the communication between a base station (BS) equipped with MEC servers and multiple single-antenna users. To utilize the scarce frequency resource efficiently, we assume that users communicate with BS based on a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) protocol. Each user has a computation task which can be computed locally or partially/fully offloaded to the BS. We aim to minimize the sum energy consumption of all users by jointly optimizing the passive phase shifters, the size of transmission data, transmission rate, power control, transmission time and the decoding order. Since the resulting problem is non-convex, we use the block coordinate descent method to alternately optimize two separated subproblems. More specifically, we use the dual method to tackle a subproblem with given phase shift and obtain the closed-form solution; and then we utilize penalty method to solve another subproblem for given power control. Moreover, in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm, we propose three benchmark schemes: the time-division multiple access (TDMA)-MEC scheme, the full local computing scheme and the full offloading scheme. We use an alternating 1-D search method and the dual method that can solve the TDMA-based transmission problem well. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can increase the energy efficiency and achieve significant performance gains over the three benchmark schemes.
MIMO systems in the context of 6G Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) will require an accurate channel knowledge to enable efficient communication. Standard channel estimation techniques, such as Unconstrained Maximum Likelihood (U-ML), are extremely noisy in massive MIMO settings, while structured approaches, e.g., compressed sensing, are suited to low-mobility scenarios and are sensitive to hardware impairments. We propose a novel Multi-Vehicular algebraic channel estimation method for 6G V2X based on unsupervised learning which exploits recurrent vehicle passages in typical urban settings. Multiple training sequences are clustered via K-medoids algorithm based on their textit{algebraic similarity} to retrieve the MIMO channel eigenmodes, which can be used to improve the channel estimates. Numerical results show remarkable benefits of the proposed method in terms of Mean Squared Error (MSE) compared to standard U-ML solution (15 dB less).
