Literary artefacts are generally indexed and searched based on titles, meta data and keywords over the years. This searching and indexing works well when user/reader already knows about that particular creative textual artefact or document. This indexing and search hardly takes into account interest and emotional makeup of readers and its mapping to books. When a person is looking for a literary textual artefact, he/she might be looking for not only information but also to seek the joy of reading. In case of literary artefacts, progression of emotions across the key events could prove to be the key for indexing and searching. In this paper, we establish clusters among literary artefacts based on computational relationships among sentiment progressions using intelligent text analysis. We have created a database of 1076 English titles + 20 Marathi titles and also used database http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dbamman/booksummaries.html with 16559 titles and their summaries. We have proposed Sentiment Progression based Indexing for searching and recommending books. This can be used to create personalized clusters of book titles of interest to readers. The analysis clearly suggests better searching and indexing when we are targeting book lovers looking for a particular type of book or creative artefact. This indexing and searching can find many real-life applications for recommending books.

Existing video indexing and retrieval methods on popular web-based multimedia sharing websites are based on user-provided sparse tagging. This paper proposes a very specific way of searching for video clips, based on the content of the video. We present our work on Content-based Video Indexing and Retrieval using the Correspondence-Latent Dirichlet Allocation (corr-LDA) probabilistic framework. This is a model that provides for auto-annotation of videos in a database with textual descriptors, and brings the added benefit of utilizing the semantic relations between the content of the video and text. We use the concept-level matching provided by corr-LDA to build correspondences between text and multimedia, with the objective of retrieving content with increased accuracy. In our experiments, we employ only the audio components of the individual recordings and compare our results with an SVM-based approach.
Traditional sentiment analysis approaches tackle problems like ternary (3-category) and fine-grained (5-category) classification by learning the tasks separately. We argue that such classification tasks are correlated and we propose a multitask approach based on a recurrent neural network that benefits by jointly learning them. Our study demonstrates the potential of multitask models on this type of problems and improves the state-of-the-art results in the fine-grained sentiment classification problem.
We analyzed historical and literary documents in Chinese to gain insights into research issues, and overview our studies which utilized four different sources of text materials in this paper. We investigated the history of concepts and transliterated words in China with the Database for the Study of Modern China Thought and Literature, which contains historical documents about China between 1830 and 1930. We also attempted to disambiguate names that were shared by multiple government officers who served between 618 and 1912 and were recorded in Chinese local gazetteers. To showcase the potentials and challenges of computer-assisted analysis of Chinese literatures, we explored some interesting yet non-trivial questions about two of the Four Great Classical Novels of China: (1) Which monsters attempted to consume the Buddhist monk Xuanzang in the Journey to the West (JTTW), which was published in the 16th century, (2) Which was the most powerful monster in JTTW, and (3) Which major role smiled the most in the Dream of the Red Chamber, which was published in the 18th century. Similar approaches can be applied to the analysis and study of modern documents, such as the newspaper articles published about the 228 incident that occurred in 1947 in Taiwan.
Literary reading is an important activity for individuals and choosing to read a book can be a long time commitment, making book choice an important task for book lovers and public library users. In this paper we present an hybrid recommendation system to help readers decide which book to read next. We study book and author recommendation in an hybrid recommendation setting and test our approach in the LitRec data set. Our hybrid book recommendation approach purposed combines two item-based collaborative filtering algorithms to predict books and authors that the user will like. Author predictions are expanded in to a book list that is subsequently aggregated with the former list generated through the initial collaborative recommender. Finally, the resulting book list is used to yield the top-n book recommendations. By means of various experiments, we demonstrate that author recommendation can improve overall book recommendation.
One of the distinctive features of Information Retrieval systems comparing to Database Management systems, is that they offer better compression for posting lists, resulting in better I/O performance and thus faster query evaluation. In this paper, we introduce database representations of the index that reduce the size (and thus the disk I/Os) of the posting lists. This is not achieved by redesigning the DBMS, but by exploiting the non 1NF features that existing Object-Relational DBM systems (ORDBMS) already offer. Specifically, four different database representations are described and detailed experimental results for one million pages are reported. Three of these representations are one order of magnitude more space efficient and faster (in query evaluation) than the plain relational representation.
