New observational data of neutron stars since GW170817 have helped improve our knowledge about nuclear symmetry energy especially at high densities. We have learned particularly: (1) The slope parameter $L$ of nuclear symmetry energy at saturation density $rho_0$ of nuclear matter from 24 new analyses is about $Lapprox 57.7pm 19$ MeV at 68% confidence level consistent with its fiducial value, (2) The curvature $K_{rm{sym}}$ from 16 new analyses is about $K_{rm{sym}}approx -107pm 88$ MeV, (3) The magnitude of nuclear symmetry energy at $2rho_0$, i.e. $E_{rm{sym}}(2rho_0)approx 51pm 13$ MeV at 68% confidence level, has been extracted from 9 new analyses of neutron star observables consistent with results from earlier analyses of heavy-ion reactions and the latest predictions of the state-of-the-art nuclear many-body theories, (4) while the available data from canonical neutron stars do not provide tight constraints on nuclear symmetry energy at densities above about $2rho_0$, the lower radius boundary $R_{2.01}=12.2$ km from NICERs very recent observation of PSR J0740+6620 of mass $2.08pm 0.07$ $M_{odot}$ and radius $R=12.2-16.3$ km at 68% confidence level sets a tight lower limit for nuclear symmetry energy at densities above $2rho_0$, (5) Bayesian inferences of nuclear symmetry energy using models encapsulating a first-order hadron-quark phase transition from observables of canonical neutron stars indicate that the phase transition shift appreciably both the $L$ and $K_{rm{sym}}$ to higher values but with larger uncertaintie , (6) The high-density behavior of nuclear symmetry energy affects significantly the minimum frequency necessary to rotationally support GW190814s secondary component of mass (2.50-2.67) $M_{odot}$ as the fastest and most massive pulsar discovered so far.

Constraints set on key parameters of the nuclear matter equation of state (EoS) by the values of the tidal deformability, inferred from GW170817, are examined by using a diverse set of relativistic and non-relativistic mean field models. These models are consistent with bulk properties of finite nuclei as well as with the observed lower bound on the maximum mass of neutron star $sim 2 ~ {rm M}_odot$. The tidal deformability shows a strong correlation with specific linear combinations of the isoscalar and isovector nuclear matter parameters associated with the EoS. Such correlations suggest that a precise value of the tidal deformability can put tight bounds on several EoS parameters, in particular, on the slope of the incompressibility and the curvature of the symmetry energy. The tidal deformability obtained from the GW170817 and its UV/optical/infrared counterpart sets the radius of a canonical $1.4~ {rm M}_{odot}$ neutron star to be $11.82leqslant R_{1.4}leqslant13.72$ km.
We present an inference of the nuclear symmetry energy magnitude $J$, the slope $L$ and the curvature $K_{rm sym}$ by combining neutron skin data on Ca, Pb and Sn isotopes and our best theoretical information about pure neutron matter (PNM). A Bayesian framework is used to consistently incorporate prior knowledge of the PNM equation of state from chiral effective field theory calculations. Neutron skins are modeled in a Hartree-Fock approach using an extended Skyrme energy-density functional which allows for independent variation of $J$, $L$ and $K_{rm sym}$ without affecting the symmetric nuclear matter equation of state. We discuss the choice of neutron skin data sets, and combining errors in quadrature we obtain 95% credible values of $J=31.3substack{+4.2 -5.9}$ MeV, $L=40substack{+34 -26}$ MeV and $K_{tau} = L - 6K_{rm sym}= -444substack{+100 -84}$ MeV using uninformative priors in $J$, $L$ and $K_{rm sym}$, and $J=31.9substack{+1.3 -1.3}$ MeV, $L=37substack{+9 -8}$ MeV and $K_{tau} = -480substack{+25 -26}$ MeV using PNM priors. The correlations between symmetry energy parameters induced by neutron skin data is discussed and compared with the droplet model. Neutron skin data alone is shown to place limits on the symmetry energy parameters as stringent as those obtained from chiral effective field theory alone, and when combined the 95% credible intervals are reduced by a factor of 4-5. Ahead of new measurements of lead and calcium neutron skins from parity-violating electron scattering experiments at Jefferson Lab and Mainz Superconducting Accelerator, we make predictions based on existing data on neutron skins of tin for the neutron skins of calcium and lead of 0.166$pm$0.008 fm and $0.169 pm 0.014$ fm respectively, using uninformative priors, and 0.167$pm$0.008 fm and $0.172 pm 0.015$ fm respectively, using PNM priors.

We present predictions for neutron star tidal deformabilities obtained from a Bayesian analysis of the nuclear equation of state, assuming a minimal model at high-density that neglects the possibility of phase transitions. The Bayesian posterior probability distribution is constructed from priors obtained from microscopic many-body theory based on realistic two- and three-body nuclear forces, while the likelihood functions incorporate empirical information about the equation of state from nuclear experiments. The neutron star crust equation of state is constructed from the liquid drop model, and the core-crust transition density is found by comparing the energy per baryon in inhomogeneous matter and uniform nuclear matter. From the cold $beta$-equilibrated neutron star equation of state, we then compute neutron star tidal deformabilities as well as the mass-radius relationship. Finally, we investigate correlations between the neutron star tidal deformability and properties of finite nuclei.
In the present work, we use a finite range effective interaction to calculate the neutron skin thickness in $^{48}$Ca and correlate these quantities with the parameters of nuclear symmetry energy. Available experimental data on the neutron skin thickness in $^{48}$Ca are used to deduce information on the density slope parameter and the curvature symmetry parameter of the nuclear symmetry energy at saturation and at subsaturation densities. We obtained the constraints such as $54.5leq L(rho_0) leq 97.5$ MeV and $47.3leq L(rho_c) leq 57.1$ MeV for the density slope parameter. The constraints on the curvature symmetry energy parameter are obtained as $-170.7leq K_{sym}(rho_0) leq -43.4$ MeV and $-80.8leq K_{sym}(rho_c) leq 23.8$ MeV. A linear relation between the neutron skin thickness in $^{48}$Ca and in $^{2088}$Pb is obtained.
The symmetry energy obtained with the effective Skyrme energy density functional is related to the values of isoscalar effective mass and isovector effective mass, which is also indirectly related to the incompressibility of symmetric nuclear matter. In this work, we analyze the values of symmetry energy and its related nuclear matter parameters in five-dimensional parameter space by describing the heavy ion collision data, such as isospin diffusion data at 35 MeV/u and 50 MeV/u, neutron skin of $^{208}$Pb, and tidal deformability and maximum mass of neutron star. We obtain the parameter sets which can describe the isospin diffusion, neutron skin, tidal deformability and maximum mass of neutron star, and give the incompressibility $K_0$=250.23$pm$20.16 MeV, symmetry energy coefficient $S_0$=31.35$pm$2.08 MeV, the slope of symmetry energy $L$=59.57$pm$10.06 MeV, isoscalar effective mass $m_s^*/m$=0.75$pm$0.05 and quantity related to effective mass splitting $f_I$=0.005$pm$0.170. At two times normal density, the symmetry energy we obtained is in 35-55 MeV. To reduce the large uncertainties of $f_I$, more critical works in heavy ion collisions at different beam energies are needed.
