Sesqui-pushout (SqPO) rewriting along non-linear rules and for monic matches is well-known to permit the modeling of fusing and cloning of vertices and edges, yet to date, no construction of a suitable concurrency theorem was available. The lack of such a theorem, in turn, rendered compositional reasoning for such rewriting systems largely infeasible. We develop in this paper a suitable concurrency theorem for non-linear SqPO-rewriting in categories that are quasi-topoi (subsuming the example of adhesive categories) and with matches required to be regular monomorphisms of the given category. Our construction reveals an interesting backpropagation effect in computing rule compositions. We derive in addition a concurrency theorem for non-linear double pushout (DPO) rewriting in rm-adhesive categories. Our results open non-linear SqPO and DPO semantics to the rich static analysis techniques available from concurrency, rule algebra and tracelet theory.

Algebraic logic studies algebraic theories related to proposition and first-order logic. A new algebraic approach to first-order logic is sketched in this paper. We introduce the notion of a quantifier theory, which is a functor from the category of a monad of sets to the category of Boolean algebras, together with a uniquely determined system of quantifiers. A striking feature of this approach is that Cayleys Completeness Theorem and Godels Completeness Theorem can be stated and proved in a much simpler fashion for quantifier theories. Both theorems are due to Halmos for polyadic algebras. We also present a simple transparent treatment of ultraproducts of models of a quantifier theory.

The majority of modern systems exhibit sophisticated concurrent behaviour, where several system components modify and observe the system state with fine-grained atomicity. Many systems (e.g., multi-core processors, real-time controllers) also exhibit truly concurrent behaviour, where multiple events can occur simultaneously. This paper presents data refinement defined in terms of an interval-based framework, which includes high-level operators that capture non-deterministic expression evaluation. By modifying the type of an interval, our theory may be specialised to cover data refinement of both discrete and continuous systems. We present an interval-based encoding of forward simulation, then prove that our forward simulation rule is sound with respect to our data refinement definition. A number of rules for decomposing forward simulation proofs over both sequential and parallel composition are developed.

The problem we want to solve is how to generate all theorems of a given size in the implicational fragment of propositional intuitionistic linear logic. We start by filtering for linearity the proof terms associated by our Prolog-based theorem prover for Implicational Intuitionistic Logic. This works, but using for each formula a PSPACE-complete algorithm limits it to very small formulas. We take a few walks back and forth over the bridge between proof terms and theorems, provided by the Curry-Howard isomorphism, and derive step-by-step an efficient algorithm requiring a low polynomial effort per generated theorem. The resulting Prolog program runs in O(N) space for terms of size N and generates in a few hours 7,566,084,686 theorems in the implicational fragment of Linear Intuitionistic Logic together with their proof terms in normal form. As applications, we generate datasets for correctness and scalability testing of linear logic theorem provers and training data for neural networks working on theorem proving challenges. The results in the paper, organized as a literate Prolog program, are fully replicable. Keywords: combinatorial generation of provable formulas of a given size, intuitionistic and linear logic theorem provers, theorems of the implicational fragment of propositional linear intuitionistic logic, Curry-Howard isomorphism, efficient generation of linear lambda terms in normal form, Prolog programs for lambda term generation and theorem proving.
We give a formalization of Pratts intuitive sculpting process for higher-dimensional automata (HDA). Intuitively, an HDA is a sculpture if it can be embedded in (i.e., sculpted from) a single higher dimensional cell (hypercube). A first important result of this paper is that not all HDA can be sculpted, exemplified through several natural acyclic HDA, one being the famous broken box example of van Glabbeek. Moreover, we show that even the natural operation of unfolding is completely unrelated to sculpting, e.g., there are sculptures whose unfoldings cannot be sculpted. We investigate the expressiveness of sculptures, as a proper subclass of HDA, by showing them to be equivalent to regular ST-structures (an event-based counterpart of HDA) and to (regular) Chu spaces over 3 (in their concurrent interpretation given by Pratt). We believe that our results shed new light on the intuitions behind sculpting as a method of modeling concurrent behavior, showing the precise reaches of its expressiveness. Besides expressiveness, we also develop an algorithm to decide whether an HDA can be sculpted. More importantly, we show that sculptures are equivalent to Euclidean cubical complexes (being the geometrical counterpart of our combinatorial definition), which include the popular PV models used for deadlock detection. This exposes a close connection between geometric and combinatorial models for concurrency which may be of use for both areas.
We develop local reasoning techniques for message passing concurrent programs based on ideas from separation logics and resource usage analysis. We extend processes with permission- resources and define a reduction semantics for this extended language. This provides a foundation for interpreting separation formulas for message-passing concurrency. We also define a sound proof system permitting us to infer satisfaction compositionally using local, separation-based reasoning.
