In open-domain conversational systems, it is important but challenging to leverage background knowledge. We can use the incorporation of knowledge to make the generation of dialogue controllable, and can generate more diverse sentences that contain real knowledge. In this paper, we combine the knowledge bases and pre-training model to propose a knowledge-driven conversation system. The system includes modules such as dialogue topic prediction, knowledge matching and dialogue generation. Based on this system, we study the performance factors that maybe affect the generation of knowledge-driven dialogue: topic coarse recall algorithm, number of knowledge choices, generation model choices, etc., and finally made the system reach state-of-the-art. These experimental results will provide some guiding significance for the future research of this task. As far as we know, this is the first work to study and analyze the effects of the related factors.
Knowledge-grounded dialogue is a task of generating a fluent and informative response based on both conversation context and a collection of external knowledge, in which knowledge selection plays an important role and attracts more and more research interest. However, most existing models either select only one knowledge or use all knowledge for responses generation. The former may lose valuable information in discarded knowledge, while the latter may bring a lot of noise. At the same time, many approaches need to train the knowledge selector with knowledge labels that indicate ground-truth knowledge, but these labels are difficult to obtain and require a large number of manual annotations. Motivated by these issues, we propose Knoformer, a dialogue response generation model based on reinforcement learning, which can automatically select one or more related knowledge from the knowledge pool and does not need knowledge labels during training. Knoformer is evaluated on two knowledge-guided conversation datasets, and achieves state-of-the-art performance.
The incompleteness of Knowledge Graphs (KGs) is a crucial issue affecting the quality of AI-based services. In the scholarly domain, KGs describing research publications typically lack important information, hindering our ability to analyse and predict research dynamics. In recent years, link prediction approaches based on Knowledge Graph Embedding models became the first aid for this issue. In this work, we present Trans4E, a novel embedding model that is particularly fit for KGs which include N to M relations with N$gg$M. This is typical for KGs that categorize a large number of entities (e.g., research articles, patents, persons) according to a relatively small set of categories. Trans4E was applied on two large-scale knowledge graphs, the Academia/Industry DynAmics (AIDA) and Microsoft Academic Graph (MAG), for completing the information about Fields of Study (e.g., neural networks, machine learning, artificial intelligence), and affiliation types (e.g., education, company, government), improving the scope and accuracy of the resulting data. We evaluated our approach against alternative solutions on AIDA, MAG, and four other benchmarks (FB15k, FB15k-237, WN18, and WN18RR). Trans4E outperforms the other models when using low embedding dimensions and obtains competitive results in high dimensions.
In knowledge grounded conversation, domain knowledge plays an important role in a special domain such as Music. The response of knowledge grounded conversation might contain multiple answer entities or no entity at all. Although existing generative question answering (QA) systems can be applied to knowledge grounded conversation, they either have at most one entity in a response or cannot deal with out-of-vocabulary entities. We propose a fully data-driven generative dialogue system GenDS that is capable of generating responses based on input message and related knowledge base (KB). To generate arbitrary number of answer entities even when these entities never appear in the training set, we design a dynamic knowledge enquirer which selects different answer entities at different positions in a single response, according to different local context. It does not rely on the representations of entities, enabling our model deal with out-of-vocabulary entities. We collect a human-human conversation data (ConversMusic) with knowledge annotations. The proposed method is evaluated on CoversMusic and a public question answering dataset. Our proposed GenDS system outperforms baseline methods significantly in terms of the BLEU, entity accuracy, entity recall and human evaluation. Moreover,the experiments also demonstrate that GenDS works better even on small datasets.
End-to-End intelligent neural dialogue systems suffer from the problems of generating inconsistent and repetitive responses. Existing dialogue models pay attention to unilaterally incorporating personal knowledge into the dialog while ignoring the fact that incorporating the personality-related conversation information into personal knowledge taken as the bilateral information flow boosts the quality of the subsequent conversation. Besides, it is indispensable to control personal knowledge utilization over the conversation level. In this paper, we propose a conversation-adaption multi-view persona aware response generation model that aims at enhancing conversation consistency and alleviating the repetition from two folds. First, we consider conversation consistency from multiple views. From the view of the persona profile, we design a novel interaction module that not only iteratively incorporates personalized knowledge into each turn conversation but also captures the personality-related information from conversation to enhance personalized knowledge semantic representation. From the view of speaking style, we introduce the speaking style vector and feed it into the decoder to keep the speaking style consistency. To avoid conversation repetition, we devise a coverage mechanism to keep track of the activation of personal knowledge utilization. Experiments on both automatic and human evaluation verify the superiority of our model over previous models.
Predicting student performance is a fundamental task in Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs), by which we can learn about students knowledge level and provide personalized teaching strategies for them. Researchers have made plenty of efforts on this task. They either leverage educational psychology methods to predict students scores according to the learned knowledge proficiency, or make full use of Collaborative Filtering (CF) models to represent latent factors of students and exercises. However, most of these methods either neglect the exercise-specific characteristics (e.g., exercise materials), or cannot fully explore the high-order interactions between students, exercises, as well as knowledge concepts. To this end, we propose a Graph-based Exercise- and Knowledge-Aware Learning Network for accurate student score prediction. Specifically, we learn students mastery of exercises and knowledge concepts respectively to model the two-fold effects of exercises and knowledge concepts. Then, to model the high-order interactions, we apply graph convolution techniques in the prediction process. Extensive experiments on two real-world datasets prove the effectiveness of our proposed Graph-EKLN.
