With the rapid development of indoor location-based services (LBSs), the demand for accurate localization keeps growing as well. To meet this demand, we propose an indoor localization algorithm based on graph convolutional network (GCN). We first model access points (APs) and the relationships between them as a graph, and utilize received signal strength indication (RSSI) to make up fingerprints. Then the graph and the fingerprint will be put into GCN for feature extraction, and get classification by multilayer perceptron (MLP).In the end, experiments are performed under a 2D scenario and 3D scenario with floor prediction. In the 2D scenario, the mean distance error of GCN-based method is 11m, which improves by 7m and 13m compare with DNN-based and CNN-based schemes respectively. In the 3D scenario, the accuracy of predicting buildings and floors are up to 99.73% and 93.43% respectively. Moreover, in the case of predicting floors and buildings correctly, the mean distance error is 13m, which outperforms DNN-based and CNN-based schemes, whose mean distance errors are 34m and 26m respectively.

Precise indoor localization is an increasingly demanding requirement for various emerging applications, like Virtual/Augmented reality and personalized advertising. Current indoor environments are equipped with pluralities of WiFi access points (APs), whose deployment is expected to be massive in the future enabling highly precise localization approaches. Though the conventional model-based localization schemes have achieved sub-meter level accuracy by fusing multiple channel state information (CSI) observations, the corresponding computational overhead is usually significant, especially in the current multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems. In order to address this issue, model-free localization techniques using deep learning frameworks have been lately proposed, where mainly classification methods were applied. In this paper, instead of classification based mechanism, we propose a logistic regression based scheme with the deep learning framework, combined with Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) assisted robust training, which achieves more robust sub-meter level accuracy (0.97m median distance error) in the standard laboratory environment and maintains reasonable online prediction overhead under the single WiFi AP settings.

In this letter, a novel variation of sparse code multiple access (SCMA), called codeword position index based SCMA (CPI-SCMA), is proposed. In this scheme, the information is transmitted not only by the codewords in M point SCMA codebook, but also by the indices of the codeword positions in a data block. As such, both the power and transmission efficiency (TE) can be improved, moreover, CPI-SCMA can achieve a better error rate performance compare to conventional SCMA (C-SCMA).

Localization is important for a large number of Internet of Things (IoT) endpoint devices connected by LoRaWAN. Due to the bandwidth limitations of LoRaWAN, existing localization methods without specialized hardware (e.g., GPS) produce poor performance. To increase the localization accuracy, we propose a super-resolution localization method, called Seirios, which features a novel algorithm to synchronize multiple non-overlapped communication channels by exploiting the unique features of the radio physical layer to increase the overall bandwidth. By exploiting both the original and the conjugate of the physical layer, Seirios can resolve the direct path from multiple reflectors in both indoor and outdoor environments. We design a Seirios prototype and evaluate its performance in an outdoor area of 100 m $times$ 60 m, and an indoor area of 25 m $times$ 15 m, which shows that Seirios can achieve a median error of 4.4 m outdoors (80% samples < 6.4 m), and 2.4 m indoors (80% samples < 6.1 m), respectively. The results show that Seirios produces 42% less localization error than the baseline approach. Our evaluation also shows that, different to previous studies in Wi-Fi localization systems that have wider bandwidth, time-of-fight (ToF) estimation is less effective for LoRaWAN localization systems with narrowband radio signals.
Fine-grained indoor localization has attracted attention recently because of the rapidly growing demand for indoor location-based services (ILBS). Specifically, massive (large-scale) multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) systems have received increasing attention due to high angular resolution. This paper presents an indoor localization testbed based on a massive MIMO orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system, which supports physical-layer channel measurements. Instead of exploiting channel state information (CSI) directly for localization, we focus on positioning from the perspective of multipath components (MPCs), which are extracted from the CSI through the space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization (SAGE) algorithm. On top of the available MPCs, we propose a generalized fingerprinting system based on different single-metric and hybrid-metric schemes. We evaluate the impact of the varying antenna topologies, the size of the training set, the number of antennas, and the effective signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The experimental results show that the proposed fingerprinting method can achieve centimeter-level positioning accuracy with a relatively small training set. Specifically, the distributed uniform linear array obtains the highest accuracy with about 1.63-2.5-cm mean absolute errors resulting from the high spatial resolution.
In this letter, we propose an energy-efficient 3-dimensional placement of multiple aerial access points (AAPs), in the desired area, acting as flying base stations for uplink communication from a set of ground user equipment (UE). The globally optimal energy-efficient vertical position of AAPs is derived analytically by considering the inter-cell interference and AAP energy consumption. The horizontal position of AAPs which maximize the packing density of the AAP coverage area are determined using a novel regular polygon-based AAP placement algorithm. We also determine the maximum number of non-interfering AAPs that can be placed in the desired area. The effect of the AAP energy consumption on the optimal placement and the analytic findings are verified via numerical simulations.
