We propose a new approach for the solution of initial value problems for integrable evolution equations in the periodic setting based on the unified transform. Using the nonlinear Schrodinger equation as a model example, we show that the solution of the initial value problem on the circle can be expressed in terms of the solution of a Riemann-Hilbert problem whose formulation involves quantities which are defined in terms of the initial data alone. Our approach provides an effective solution of the problem on the circle which is conceptually analogous to the solution of the problem on the line via the inverse scattering transform.

We develop a new approach to the classification of integrable equations of the form $$ u_{xy}=f(u, u_x, u_y, triangle_z u triangle_{bar z}u, triangle_{zbar z}u), $$ where $triangle_{ z}$ and $triangle_{bar z}$ are the forward/backward discrete derivatives. The following 2-step classification procedure is proposed: (1) First we require that the dispersionless limit of the equation is integrable, that is, its characteristic variety defines a conformal structure which is Einstein-Weyl on every solution. (2) Secondly, to the candidate equations selected at the previous step we apply the test of Darboux integrability of reductions obtained by imposing suitable cut-off conditions.
In this paper we present a reduction technique based on bilinearization and double Wronskians (or double Casoratians) to obtain explicit multi-soliton solutions for the integrable space-time shifted nonlocal equations introduced very recently by Ablowitz and Musslimani in [Phys. Lett. A, 2021]. Examples include the space-time shifted nonlocal nonlinear Schrodinger and modified Korteweg-de Vries hierarchies and the semi-discrete nonlinear Schrodinger equation. It is shown that these nonlocal integrable equations with or without space-time shift(s) reduction share same distributions of eigenvalues but the space-time shift(s) brings new constraints to phase terms in solutions.
We classify integrable Hamiltonian equations in 3D with the Hamiltonian operator d/dx, where the Hamiltonian density h(u, w) is a function of two variables: dependent variable u and the non-locality w such that w_x=u_y. Based on the method of hydrodynamic reductions, the integrability conditions are derived (in the form of an involutive PDE system for the Hamiltonian density h). We show that the generic integrable density is expressed in terms of the Weierstrass elliptic functions. Dispersionless Lax pairs, commuting flows and dispersive deformations of the resulting equations are also discussed.
We obtain new gauge-invariant forms of two-dimensional integrable systems of nonlinear equations: the Sawada-Kotera and Kaup-Kuperschmidt system, the generalized system of dispersive long waves, and the Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov system. We show how these forms imply both new and well-known two-dimensional integrable nonlinear equations: the Sawada-Kotera equation, Kaup-Kuperschmidt equation, dispersive long-wave system, Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov equation, and modified Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov equation. We consider Miura-type transformations between nonlinear equations in different gauges.
New manifestly gauge-invariant forms of two-dimensional generalized dispersive long-wave and Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov systems of integrable nonlinear equations are presented. It is shown how in different gauges from such forms famous two-dimensional generalization of dispersive long-wave system of equations, Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov and modified Nizhnik-Veselov-Novikov equations and other known and new integrable nonlinear equations arise. Miura-type transformations between nonlinear equations in different gauges are considered.
