The physics of the triangular lattice Hubbard model exhibits a rich phenomenology, ranging from a metal-insulator transition, intriguing thermodynamic behavior, and a putative spin liquid phase at intermediate coupling, ultimately becoming a magnetic insulator at strong coupling. In this multi-method study, we combine a finite-temperature tensor network method, minimally entangled thermal typical states (METTS), with two Green function-based methods, connected-determinant diagrammatic Monte Carlo (DiagMC) and cellular dynamical mean-field theory (CDMFT), to establish several aspects of this model. We elucidate the evolution from the metallic to the insulating regime from the complementary perspectives brought by these different methods. We compute the full thermodynamics of the model on a width-4 cylinder using METTS in the intermediate to strong coupling regime. We find that the insulating state hosts a large entropy at intermediate temperatures, which increases with the strength of the coupling. Correspondingly, and consistently with a thermodynamic Maxwell relation, the double occupancy has a minimum as a function of temperature which is the manifestation of the Pomeranchuk effect of increased localisation upon heating. The intermediate coupling regime is found to exhibit both pronounced chiral as well as stripy antiferromagnetic spin correlations. We propose a scenario in which time-reversal symmetry broken states compete with nematic, lattice rotational symmetry breaking orders at lowest temperatures.

We investigate the evolution of the Mott insulators in the triangular lattice Hubbard Model, as a function of hole doping $delta$ in both the strong and intermediate coupling limit. Using the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method, at light hole doping $deltalesssim 10%$, we find a significant difference between strong and intermediate couplings. Notably, at intermediate coupling an unusual metallic state emerges, with short ranged spin correlations but long ranged spin-chirality order. Moreover, no clear Fermi surface or wave-vector is observed. These features disappear on increasing interaction strength or on further doping. At strong coupling, the 120 degree magnetic order of the insulating magnet persists for light doping, and produces hole pockets with a well defined Fermi surface. On further doping, $delta approx 10%sim 20%$ SDW order and coherent hole Fermi pockets are found at both strong and intermediate coupling. At even higher doping $delta gtrsim 20%$, the SDW order is suppressed and the spin-singlet Cooper pair correlations are simultaneously enhanced. We interpret this as the onset of superconductivity on suppressing magnetic order. We also briefly comment on the strong particle hole asymmetry of the model, and contrast electron versus hole doping.
We present a dynamical mean-field study of two-particle dynamical response functions in two-band Hubbard model across several phase transitions. We observe that the transition between theexcitonic condensate and spin-state ordered state is continuous with a narrow strip of supersolidphase separating the two. Approaching transition from the excitonic condensate is announced bysoftening of the excitonic mode at theMpoint of the Brillouin zone. Inside the spin-state orderedphase there is a magnetically ordered state with 2x2 periodicity, which has no precursor in thenormal phase.
We study the spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg model on the triangular lattice with the antiferromagnetic first ($J_1$) and second ($J_2$) nearest-neighbor interactions using density matrix renormalization group. By studying the spin correlation function, we find a $120^{circ}$ magnetic order phase for $J_2 lesssim 0.07 J_1$ and a stripe antiferromagnetic phase for $J_2 gtrsim 0.15 J_1$. Between these two phases, we identify a spin liquid region characterized by the exponential decaying spin and dimer correlations, as well as the large spin singlet and triplet excitation gaps on finite-size systems. We find two near degenerating ground states with distinct properties in two sectors, which indicates more than one spin liquid candidates in this region. While the sector with spinon is found to respect the time reversal symmetry, the even sector without a spinon breaks such a symmetry for finite-size systems. Furthermore, we detect the signature of the fractionalization by following the evolution of different ground states with inserting spin flux into the cylinder system. Moreover, by tuning the anisotropic bond coupling, we explore the nature of the spin liquid phase and find the optimal parameter region for the gapped $Z_2$ spin liquid.
We investigate the competition between charge-density-wave (CDW) states and a Coulomb interaction-driven topological Mott insulator (TMI) in the honeycomb extended Hubbard model. For the spinful model with on-site ($U$) and next-nearest-neighbor ($V_2$) Coulomb interactions at half filling, we find two peculiar six-sublattice charge-density-wave insulating states by using variational Monte Carlo simulations as well as the Hartree-Fock approximation. We observe that conventional ordered states always win with respect to the TMI. The ground state is given in the large-$V_2$ region by a CDW characterized by a 220200 (001122) charge configuration for smaller (larger) $U$, where 0, 1, and 2 denote essentially empty, singly occupied, and doubly occupied sites. Within the 001122-type CDW phase, we find a magnetic transition driven by an emergent coupled-dimer antiferromagnet on an effective square lattice of singly occupied sites. Possible realizations of the found states are discussed.
We develop a theory of the excitonic phase recently proposed as the zero-field insulating state observed near charge neutrality in monolayer WTe$_2$. Using a Hartree-Fock approximation, we numerically identify two distinct gapped excitonic phases: a spin density wave state for weak but non-zero interaction strength $U_0$, and spin spiral order at larger $U_0$, separated by a narrow window of trivial insulator. We introduce a simplified model capturing essential features of the WTe$_2$ band structure, in which the two phases may be viewed as distinct valley ferromagnetic orders. We link the competition between the two phases to the orbital structure of the electronic wavefunctions at the Fermi surface and hence its proximity to the underlying gapped Dirac point in WTe$_2$. We briefly discuss collective modes of the two excitonic states, and comment on implications for experiments.
