Frequency entangled photon sources are in high demand in a variety of optical quantum technologies, including quantum key distribution, cluster state quantum computation and quantum metrology. In the recent decade, chip-scale entangled photon sources have been developed using silicon platforms, offering robustness, large scalability and CMOS technology compatibility. Here, we report the generation of frequency correlated photon pairs using a 150-GHz silicon nitride ring cavity. First, the device is characterized for studying the phase matching condition during spontaneous four-wave mixing. Next, we evaluate the joint spectrum intensity of the generated photons and confirm the photon pair generation in a total of42 correlated frequency mode pairs, corresponding to a bandwidth of 51.25 nm. Finally, the experimental results are analyzed and the joint spectral intensity is quantified in terms of the phase matching condition.

Single-photon stimulated four wave mixing (StFWM) processes have great potential for photonic quantum information processing, compatible with optical communication technologies and integrated optoelectronics. In this paper, we demonstrate single-photon StFWM process in a piece of optical fiber, with seeded photons generated by spontaneous four wave mixing process (SpFWM). The effect of the single-photon StFWM is confirmed by time-resolved four-photon coincidence measurement and variation of four-photon coincidence counts under different seed-pump delays. According to the experiment results, the potential performance of quantum cloning machine based on the process is analyzed.
Heralded single photon source (HSPS) is an important way in generating genuine single photon, having advantages of experimental simplicity and versatility. However, HSPS intrinsically suffers from the trade-off between the heralded single photon rate and the single photon purity. To overcome this, one can apply multiplexing technology in different degrees of freedom to enhance the performance of HSPS. Here, by employing spectral multiplexing and active feed-forward spectral manipulating, we demonstrate a HSPS at 1.5 {mu}m telecom-band. Our experimental results show that the spectral multiplexing effectively erases the frequency correlation of pair source and significantly improves the heralded single photon rate while keeping the g{^(^2^)}(0) as low as 0.0006{pm}0.0001. The Hong-Ou-Mandel interference between the heralded single photons and photons from an independent weak coherent source indicates a high indistinguishability. Our results pave a way for scalable HSPS by spectral multiplexing towards deterministic single photon emission.
We demonstrate an efficient generation of frequency anti-correlated entangled photon pairs at telecom wavelength. The fundamental laser is a continuous-wave high-power fiber laser at 1560 nm, through an extracavity frequency doubling system, a 780-nm pump with a power as high as 742 mW is realized. After single passing through a periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) crystal, degenerate down-converted photon pairs are generated. With an overall detection efficiency of 14.8 %, the count rates of the single photons and coincidence of the photon pairs are measured to be 370 kHz and 22 kHz, respectively. The spectra of the signal and idler photons are centered at 1560.23 and 1560.04 nm, while their 3-dB bandwidths being 3.22 nm both. The joint spectrum of the photon pair is observed to be frequency anti correlated and have a spectral bandwidth of 0.52 nm. According to the ratio of the single photon spectral bandwidth to the joint spectral bandwidth of the photon pairs, the degree of frequency entanglement is quantified to be 6.19. Based on a Hong Ou Mandel interferometric coincidence measurement, a frequency indistinguishability of 95 % is demonstrated. The good agreements with the theoretical estimations show that the inherent extra intensity noise in fiber lasers has little influence on frequency entanglement of the generated photon pairs.
Integrated photonics is becoming an ideal platform for generating two-photon entangled states with high brightness, high stability and scalability. This high brightness and high quality of photon pair sources encourages researchers further to study and manipulate multi-photon entangled states. Here, we experimentally demonstrate frequency-degenerate four-photon entangled state generation based on a single silicon nanowire 1 cm in length. The polarization encoded entangled states are generated with the help of a Sagnac loop using additional optical elements. The states are analyzed using quantum interference and state tomography techniques. As an example, we show that the generated quantum states can be used to achieve phase super-resolution. Our work provides a method for preparing indistinguishable multi-photon entangled states and realizing quantum algorithms in a compact on-chip setting.
We demonstrate continuous tuning of the squeezing level generated in a double-ring optical parametric oscillator by externally controlling the coupling condition using electrically controlled integrated microheaters. We accomplish this by utilizing the avoided crossing exhibited by a pair of coupled silicon nitride microring resonators. We directly detect a change in the squeezing level from 0.5 dB in the undercoupled regime to 2 dB in the overcoupled regime, which corresponds to a change in the generated on-chip squeezing factor from 0.9 dB to 3.9 dB. Such wide tunability in the squeezing level can be harnessed for on-chip quantum enhanced sensing protocols which require an optimal degree of squeezing.
