We construct a cosmological model from the inception of the Friedmann-Lem^aitre-Robertson-Walker metric into the field equations of the $f(R,L_m)$ gravity theory, with $R$ being the Ricci scalar and $L_m$ being the matter lagrangian density. The formalism is developed for a particular $f(R,L_m)$ function, namely $R/16pi +(1+sigma R)L_{m}$, with $sigma$ being a constant that carries the geometry-matter coupling. Our solutions are remarkably capable of evading the Big-Bang singularity as well as predict the cosmic acceleration with no need for the cosmological constant, but simply as a consequence of the geometry-matter coupling terms in the Friedmann-like equations.

In this work we analyze hydrostatic equilibrium configurations of neutron stars in a non-minimal geometry-matter coupling (GMC) theory of gravity. We begin with the derivation of the hydrostatic equilibrium equations for the $f(R,L) $ gravity theory, where $R$ and $L$ are the Ricci scalar and Lagrangian of matter, respectively. We assume $f(R,L)=R/2+[1+sigma R]L$, with $sigma$ constant. To describe matter inside neutron stars we assume the polytropic equation of state $p=K rho^{gamma}$, with $K$ and $gamma = 5/3 $ being constants. We show that in this theory it is possible to reach the mass of massive pulsars such as PSR J2215+5135. As a feature of the GMC theory, very compact neutron stars with radius $sim8$km and $Msim 2.6M_odot$ are stable, thus surpassing the Buchdal and Schwarzschild radius limits. Moreover, the referred stellar diameter is obtained within the range of observational data.
The predictions of standard Higgs inflation in the framework of the metric formalism yield a tensor-to-scalar ratio $r sim 10^{-3}$ which lies well within the expected accuracy of near-future experiments $ sim 10^{-4}$. When the Palatini formalism is employed, the predicted values of $r$ get highly-suppressed $rsim 10^{-12}$ and consequently a possible non-detection of primordial tensor fluctuations will rule out only the metric variant of the model. On the other hand, the extremely small values predicted for $r$ by the Palatini approach constitute contact with observations a hopeless task for the foreseeable future. In this work, we propose a way to remedy this issue by extending the action with the inclusion of a generalized non-minimal derivative coupling term between the inflaton and the Einstein tensor of the form $m^{-2}(phi) G_{mu u} abla^{mu}phi abla^{ u}phi$. We find that with such a modification, the Palatini predictions can become comparable with the ones obtained in the metric formalism, thus providing ample room for the model to be in contact with observations in the near future.

We derive the reconstruction formulae for the inflation model with the non-minimal derivative coupling term. If reconstructing the potential from the tensor-to-scalar ratio, we could obtain the potential without using the high friction limit. As an example, we reconstruct the potential from the parametrization $r=8alpha/(N+beta)^{gamma}$, which is a general form of the $alpha$-attractor. The reconstructed potential has the same asymptotic behavior as the T- and E-model if we choose $gamma=2$ and $alphall1$. We also discuss the constraints from the reheating phase preceding the radiation domination by assuming the parameter $w_{re}$ of state equation during reheating is a constant. The scale of big-bang nucleosynthesis could put a up limit on $n_s$ if $w_{re}=2/3$ and a low limit on $n_s$ if $w_{re}=1/6$.
The universal character of the gravitational interaction provided by the equivalence principle motivates a geometrical description of gravity. The standard formulation of General Relativity `a la Einstein attributes gravity to the spacetime curvature, to which we have grown accustomed. However, this perception has masked the fact that two alternative, though equivalent, formulations of General Relativity in flat spacetimes exist, where gravity can be fully ascribed either to torsion or to non-metricity. The latter allows a simpler geometrical formulation of General Relativity that is oblivious to the affine spacetime structure. Generalisations along this line permit to generate teleparallel and symmetric teleparallel theories of gravity with exceptional properties. In this work we explore modified gravity theories based on non-linear extensions of the non-metricity scalar. After presenting some general properties and briefly studying some interesting background cosmologies (including accelerating solutions with relevance for inflation and dark energy), we analyse the behaviour of the cosmological perturbations. Tensor perturbations feature a re-scaling of the corresponding Newtons constant, while vector perturbations do not contribute in the absence of vector sources. In the scalar sector we find two additional propagating modes, hinting that $f(Q)$ theories introduce, at least, two additional degrees of freedom. These scalar modes disappear around maximally symmetric backgrounds because of the appearance of an accidental residual gauge symmetry corresponding to a restricted diffeomorphism. We finally discuss the potential strong coupling problems of these maximally symmetric backgrounds caused by the discontinuity in the number of propagating modes.
The method of a conformal transformation is applied to a general class of single field inflation models with non-minimal coupling to gravity and non-standard kinetic terms, in order to reduce the cosmological perturbative calculation to the conventional minimal coupling case to all orders in perturbation theory. Our analysis is made simple by the fact that all perturbation variables in the comoving gauge are conformally invariant to all orders. The structure of the vacuum, on which cosmological correlation functions are evaluated, is also discussed. We show how quantization in the Jordan frame for non-minimally coupled inflation models can be equivalently implemented in the Einstein frame. It is thereafter argued that the general N-point cosmological correlation functions (of the curvature perturbation) are independent of the conformal frame.
