We study the relationship between mixed state entanglement and thermal phase transitions. As a typical example, we compute the holographic entanglement entropy (HEE), holographic mutual information (MI) and the holographic entanglement of purification (EoP) over the superconductivity phase transition. We find that HEE, MI and EoP can all diagnose the superconducting phase transition. They are continuous at the critical point, but their first derivative with respect to temperature is discontinuous. MI decreases with increasing temperature and exhibits a convex behavior, while HEE increases with increasing temperature and exhibits a concave behavior. However, EoP can exhibit either the same or the opposite behavior as MI, depending on the size of the specific configuration. These results show that EoP captures more abundant information than HEE and MI. We also provide a new algorithm to compute the EoP for general configurations.
We consider spacetime initiated by a finite-sized boundary on which a pure initial matter state is set as a natural generalization of the Hartle-Hawking no-boundary state. We study entanglement entropy of the gravitationally prepared matter state at the final time slice. We find that the entropy of the initial state or the entanglement island gives the entropy for large subregions on the final time slice. Consequently, we find the entanglement entropy is bounded from above by the boundary area of the island, leading to an entropy bound in terms of the island formula. The island $I$ appears in the analytically continued spacetime, either at the bra or the ket part of the spacetime in Schwinger-Keldysh formalism, and the entropy is given by an average of pseudo entropy of each entanglement island. We find a necessary condition of the initial state to be consistent with the strong sub-additivity. The condition requires that any probe degrees of freedom are thermally entangled with the rest of the system. We then study which initial condition leads to our finite-sized initial boundary or the Hartle-Hawking no-boundary state. Due to the absence of a moment of time reflection symmetry, the island in our setup requires a generalization of the entanglement wedge, which we call {it{pseudo entanglement wedge}}. In pseudo entanglement wedge reconstruction, we consider reconstructing the bulk matter transition matrix on $Acup I$, from a fine-grained state on $A$. The bulk transition matrix is given by a thermofield double state with a projection by the initial state. We provide an AdS/BCFT model, which provides a double holography model of our setup by considering EOW branes with corners. We also find the exponential hardness of such reconstruction task using a generalization of Pythons lunch conjecture to pseudo generalized entropy.
We show that our Universe lives in a topological and non-perturbative vacuum state full of a large amount of hidden quantum hairs, the hairons. We will discuss and elaborate on theoretical evidences that the quantum hairs are related to the gravitational topological winding number in vacuo. Thus, hairons are originated from topological degrees of freedom, holographically stored in the de Sitter area. The hierarchy of the Planck scale over the Cosmological Constant (CC) is understood as an effect of a Topological Memory intrinsically stored in the space-time geometry. Any UV quantum destabilizations of the CC are re-interpreted as Topological Phase Transitions, related to the desapparence of a large ensamble of topological hairs. This process is entropically suppressed, as a tunneling probability from the N- to the 0-states. Therefore, the tiny CC in our Universe is a manifestation of the rich topological structure of the space-time. In this portrait, a tiny neutrino mass can be generated by quantum gravity anomalies and accommodated into a large N-vacuum state. We will re-interpret the CC stabilization from the point of view of Topological Quantum Computing. An exponential degeneracy of topological hairs non-locally protects the space-time memory from quantum fluctuations as in Topological Quantum Computers.
We focus on two types of coherent states, the coherent states of multi graviton states and the coherent states of giant graviton states, in the context of gauge/gravity correspondence. We conveniently use a phase shift operator and its actions on the superpositions of these coherent states. We find $N$-state Schrodinger cat states which approach the one-row Young tableau states, with fidelity between them asymptotically reaches 1 at large $N$. The quantum Fisher information of these states is proportional to the variance of the excitation energy of the underlying states, and characterizes the localizability of the states in the angular direction in the phase space. We analyze the correlation and entanglement between gravitational degrees of freedom using different regions of the phase space plane in bubbling AdS. The correlation between two entangled rings in the phase space plane is related to the area of the annulus between the two rings. We also analyze two types of noisy coherent states, which can be viewed as interpolated states that interpolate between a pure coherent state in the noiseless limit and a maximally mixed state in the large noise limit.
We consider a generic first-order phase transition at finite temperature and investigate to what extent a population of primordial black holes, of variable masses, can affect the rate of bubble nucleation. Using a thin-wall approximation, we construct the Euclidean configurations that describe transition at finite temperature. After the transition, the remnant black hole mass is dictated dynamically by the equations of motion. The transition exponent is computed and displays an explicit dependence on temperature. We find the configuration with the lowest Euclidean action to be static and $O(3)$ symmetric; therefore, the transition takes place via thermal excitation. The transition exponent exhibits a strong dependence on the seed mass black hole, $M_+$, being almost directly proportional. A new nucleation condition in the presence of black holes is derived and the nucleation temperature is compared to the familiar flat-space result, i.e. $S_3/T$. For an electroweak-like phase transition it is possible to enhance the nucleation rate if $M_+ lesssim 10^{15} M_{rm P}$. Finally, we outline the possible transition scenarios and the consequences for the power spectrum of stochastic gravitational waves produced due to the first-order phase transition.
We study the behavior of black hole singularities across the Hawking-Page phase transitions, uncovering the possible connection between the physics inside and outside the horizon. We focus on the case of spacelike singularities in Einstein-scalar theory which are of the Kasner form. We find that the Kasner exponents are continuous and non-differentiable during the second order phase transitions, while discontinuous in the first order phase transitions. We give some arguments on the universality of this behavior. We also discuss possible observables in the dual field theory which encode the Kasner exponents.
