We determine a previously unknown universal quantity, the location of the Yang-Lee edge singularity for the O($N$) theories in a wide range of $N$ and various dimensions. At large $N$, we reproduce the $Ntoinfty$ analytical result on the location of the singularity and, additionally, we obtain the mean-field result for the location in $d=4$ dimensions. In order to capture the nonperturbative physics for arbitrary $N$, $d$ and complex-valued external fields, we use the functional renormalization group approach.

We show that a class of $mathcal{PT}$ symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonians realizing the Yang-Lee edge singularity exhibits an entanglement transition in the long-time steady state evolved under the Hamiltonian. Such a transition is induced by a level crossing triggered by the critical point associated with the Yang-Lee singularity and hence is first-order in nature. At the transition, the entanglement entropy of the steady state jumps discontinuously from a volume-law to an area-law scaling. We exemplify this mechanism using a one-dimensional transverse field Ising model with additional imaginary fields, as well as the spin-1 Blume-Capel model and the three-state Potts model. We further make a connection to the forced-measurement induced entanglement transition in a Floquet non-unitary circuit subject to continuous measurements followed by post-selections. Our results demonstrate a new mechanism for entanglement transitions in non-Hermitian systems harboring a critical point.
The multi-critical fixed points of $O(N)$ symmetric models cease to exist in the $Ntoinfty$ limit, but the mechanism regulating their annihilation still presents several enigmatic aspects. Here, we explore the evolution of high-order multi-critical points in the $(d,N)$ plane and uncover a complex mosaics for their asymptotic behaviour at large $N$. This picture is confirmed by various RG approaches and constitutes a fundamental step towards the full comprehension of critical behaviour in $O(N)$ field theories.
Using an Environmentally Friendly Renormalization Group we derive an ab initio universal scaling form for the equation of state for the O(N) model, y=f(x), that exhibits all required analyticity properties in the limits $xto 0$, $xtoinfty$ and $xto -1$. Unlike current methodologies based on a phenomenological scaling ansatz the scaling function is derived solely from the underlying Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson Hamiltonian and depends only on the three Wilson functions $gamma_lambda$, $gamma_phi$ and $gamma_{phi^2}$ which exhibit a non-trivial crossover between the Wilson-Fisher fixed point and the strong coupling fixed point associated with the Goldstone modes on the coexistence curve. We give explicit results for N=2, 3 and 4 to one-loop order and compare with known results.
Phase transitions are typically accompanied by non-analytic behaviors of the free energy, which can be explained by considering the zeros of the partition function in the complex plane of the control parameter and their approach to the critical value on the real-axis as the system size is increased. Recent experiments have shown that partition function zeros are not just a theoretical concept. They can also be determined experimentally by measuring fluctuations of thermodynamic observables in systems of finite size. Motivated by this progress, we investigate here the partition function zeros for the Curie-Weiss model of spontaneous magnetization using our recently established cumulant method. Specifically, we extract the leading Fisher and Lee-Yang zeros of the Curie-Weiss model from the fluctuations of the energy and the magnetization in systems of finite size. We develop a finite-size scaling analysis of the partition function zeros, which is valid for mean-field models, and which allows us to extract both the critical values of the control parameters and the critical exponents, even for small systems that are away from criticality. We also show that the Lee-Yang zeros carry important information about the rare magnetic fluctuations as they allow us to predict many essential features of the large-deviation statistics of the magnetization. This finding may constitute a profound connection between Lee-Yang theory and large-deviation statistics.
Lee-Yang zeros are points in the complex plane of an external control parameter at which the partition function vanishes for a many-body system of finite size. In the thermodynamic limit, the Lee-Yang zeros approach the critical value on the real-axis, where a phase transition occurs. Partition function zeros have for many years been considered a purely theoretical concept, however, the situation is changing now as Lee-Yang zeros have been determined in several recent experiments. Motivated by these developments, we here devise a direct pathway from measurements of partition function zeros to the determination of critical points and universal critical exponents of continuous phase transitions. To illustrate the feasibility of our approach, we extract the critical exponents of the Ising model in two and three dimensions from the fluctuations of the total energy and the magnetization in lattices of finite size. Importantly, the critical exponents can be determined even if the system is away from the phase transition. Moreover, in contrast to standard methods based on Binder cumulants, it is not necessary to drive the system across the phase transition. As such, our method provides an intriguing perspective for investigations of phase transitions that may be hard to reach experimentally, for instance at very low temperatures or at very high pressures.
