Holographic CFTs and holographic RG flows on space-time manifolds which are $d$-dimensional products of spheres are investigated. On the gravity side, this corresponds to Einstein-dilaton gravity on an asymptotically $AdS_{d+1}$ geometry, foliated by a product of spheres. We focus on holographic theories on $S^2times S^2$, we show that the only regular five-dimensional bulk geometries have an IR endpoint where one of the sphere shrinks to zero size, while the other remains finite. In the $Z_2$-symmetric limit, where the two spheres have the same UV radii, we show the existence of a infinite discrete set of regular solutions, satisfying an Efimov-like discrete scaling. The $Z_2$-symmetric solution in which both spheres shrink to zero at the endpoint is singular, whereas the solution with lowest free energy is regular and breaks $Z_2$ symmetry spontaneously. We explain this phenomenon analytically by identifying an unstable mode in the bulk around the would-be $Z_2$-symmetric solution. The space of theories have two branches that are connected by a conifold transition in the bulk, which is regular and correspond to a quantum first order transition. Our results also imply that $AdS_5$ does not admit a regular slicing by $S^2times S^2$.
We construct 4D $mathcal{N}=2$ theories on an infinite family of 4D toric manifolds with the topology of connected sums of $S^2 times S^2$. These theories are constructed through the dimensional reduction along a non-trivial $U(1)$-fiber of 5D theories on toric Sasaki-Einstein manifolds. We discuss the conditions under which such reductions can be carried out and give a partial classification result of the resulting 4D manifolds. We calculate the partition functions of these 4D theories and they involve both instanton and anti-instanton contributions, thus generalizing Pestuns famous result on $S^4$.
We investigate non-linear extensions of the holographic soft wall model proposed by Karch, Katz, Son and Stephanov [1] including non-minimal couplings in the five-dimensional action. The non-minimal couplings bring a new parameter $a_0$ which controls the transition between spontaneous and explicit symmetry breaking near the limit of massless quarks (the chiral limit). In the physical region (positive quark mass), we show that above a critical value of the parameter $a_0$ the chiral condensate $langle bar{q} q rangle$ is finite in the chiral limit, signifying spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. This result is supported by the lightest states arising in the spectrum of the pseudoscalar mesons, which become massless in the chiral limit and are therefore intrepreted as Nambu-Goldstone bosons. Moreover, the decay constants of the pseudoscalar mesons also support this conclusion, as well as the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner (GOR) relation satisfied by the lightest states. We also calculate the spectrum of scalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons with their corresponding decay constants. We describe the evolution of masses and decay constants with the increasing of the quark mass and for the physical mass we compare our results against available experimental data. Finally, we do not find instabilities in our model for the physical region (positive quark mass).
We investigate the properties of pole-skipping of the sound channel in which the translational symmetry is broken explicitly or spontaneously. For this purpose, we analyze, in detail, not only the holographic axion model, but also the magnetically charged black holes with two methods: the near-horizon analysis and quasi-normal mode computations. We find that the pole-skipping points are related with the chaotic properties, Lyapunov exponent ($lambda_L$) and butterfly velocity ($v_B$), independently of the symmetry breaking patterns. We show that the diffusion constant ($D$) is bounded by $D ,geqslant, v_{B}^2/lambda_{L}$, where $D$ is the energy diffusion (crystal diffusion) bound for explicit (spontaneous) symmetry breaking. We confirm that the lower bound is obtained by the pole-skipping analysis in the low temperature limit.
Since the work of Ryu and Takayanagi, deep connections between quantum entanglement and spacetime geometry have been revealed. The negative eigenvalues of the partial transpose of a bipartite density operator is a useful diagnostic of entanglement. In this paper, we discuss the properties of the associated entanglement negativity and its Renyi generalizations in holographic duality. We first review the definition of the Renyi negativities, which contain the familiar logarithmic negativity as a special case. We then study these quantities in the random tensor network model and rigorously derive their large bond dimension asymptotics. Finally, we study entanglement negativity in holographic theories with a gravity dual, where we find that Renyi negativities are often dominated by bulk solutions that break the replica symmetry. From these replica symmetry breaking solutions, we derive general expressions for Renyi negativities and their special limits including the logarithmic negativity. In fixed-area states, these general expressions simplify dramatically and agree precisely with our results in the random tensor network model. This provides a concrete setting for further studying the implications of replica symmetry breaking in holography.
We consider the generalization of the S-duality transformation previously investigated in the context of the FQHE and s-wave superconductivity to p-wave superconductivity in 2+1 dimensions in the framework of the AdS/CFT correspondence. The vector Cooper condensate transforms under the S-duality action to the pseudovector condensate at the dual side. The 3+1-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills theory, the holographic dual to p-wave superconductivity, is used to investigate the S-duality action via the AdS/CFT correspondence. It is shown that in order to implement the duality transformation, chemical potentials both on the electric and magnetic side of the duality have to be introduced. A relation for the product of the nonabelian conductivities in the dual models is derived. We also conjecture a flavor S-duality transformation in the holographic dual to 3+1-dimensional QCD low-energy QCD with non-abelian flavor gauge groups. The conjectured S-duality interchanges isospin and baryonic chemical potentials.
