The event rates for WIMP-nucleus and neutrino-nucleus scattering processes, expected to be detected in ton-scale rare-event detectors, are investigated. We focus on nuclear isotopes that correspond to the target nuclei of current and future experiments looking for WIMP- and neutrino-nucleus events. The nuclear structure calculations, performed in the context of the deformed shell model, are based on Hartree-Fock intrinsic states with angular momentum projection and band mixing for both the elastic and the inelastic channels. Our predictions in the high-recoil-energy tail show that detectable distortions of the measured/expected signal may be interpreted through the inclusion of the non-negligible incoherent channels

The charge asymmetry due to higher-order QED corrections in elastic lepton-proton scattering is estimated without employing the ultrarelativistic approximation. Our calculation is performed by generalizing the soft-photon approximation approach suggested by Tsai. Corresponding loop integrals that take a form of Passarino-Veltman scalar three-point functions are calculated analytically without neglecting the mass of the lepton. Our results provide model-independent charge asymmetry predictions for scattering of unpolarized and massive leptons on proton targets. These predictions can be used in corresponding experiments to determine the contribution coming from model-dependent hard two-photon exchange processes.

In this paper, as the third part of the third step of our study on developing data analysis procedures for using 3-dimensional information offered by directional direct Dark Matter detection experiments in the future, we introduce a 3-dimensional effective velocity distribution of halo Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), which, instead of the theoretically prediction of the entire Galactic Dark Matter particles, describes the actual velocity distribution of WIMPs scattering off (specified) target nuclei in an underground detector. Its target and WIMP-mass dependences as well as (annual modulations of) its anisotropy in the Equatorial/laboratory and even the Galactic coordinate systems will be demonstrated and discussed in detail. For readers reference, all simulation plots presented in this paper (and more) can be found in animation on our online (interactive) demonstration webpage (http://www.tir.tw/phys/hep/dm/amidas-2d/).
We present a theoretical formalism for scattering of the twisted neutrons by nuclei in a kinematic regime where interference between Coulomb interaction and the strong interaction is essential. Twisted neutrons have definite quantized values of an angular momentum projection along the direction of propagation, and we show that it results in novel observable effects for the scattering cross section, spin asymmetries and polarization of the scattered neutrons. We demonstrate that additional capabilities provided by beams orbital angular momentum enable new techniques for measuring both real and imaginary parts of the scattering amplitude. Several possible observables are considered, for which the targets may be either well-localized with respect to the spatial beam profile, or the scattering occurs incoherently on nuclei in a bulk target. The developed approach can be applied to other nuclear reactions with strongly interacting twisted particles.
The semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering of electrons off a nucleus A with detection of a slow nucleus (A-1) in the ground or low excitation states, i.e. the process A(e,e(A-1))X, can provide useful information on the origin of the EMC effect and the mechanisms of hadronization. The theoretical description of the process is reviewed and the results of several calculations on few-body systems and complex nuclei are presented.
Information on the equation of state (EOS) of neutron matter may be gained from studies of 208Pb. Descriptions of 208Pb require credible models of structure, taking particular note also of the spectrum. Such may be tested by analyses of scattering data. Herein, we report on such analyses using an RPA model for 208Pb in a folding model of the scattering. No a posteriori adjustment of parameters are needed to obtain excellent agreement with data. From those analyses, the skin thickness of 208Pb is constrained to lie in the range 0.13-0.17 fm.
