Information on the equation of state (EOS) of neutron matter may be gained from studies of 208Pb. Descriptions of 208Pb require credible models of structure, taking particular note also of the spectrum. Such may be tested by analyses of scattering data. Herein, we report on such analyses using an RPA model for 208Pb in a folding model of the scattering. No a posteriori adjustment of parameters are needed to obtain excellent agreement with data. From those analyses, the skin thickness of 208Pb is constrained to lie in the range 0.13-0.17 fm.

A microscopic optical potential (OP) is derived from NN chiral potentials at the first-order term within the spectator expansion of the multiple scattering theory and adopting the impulse approximation. The performances of our OP are compared with those of a phenomenological OP in the description of elastic proton scattering data on different isotopic chains. An analogous scheme is adopted to construct a microscopic OP for elastic antiproton-nucleus scattering. The results of our OPs are in reasonably good agreement with the experimental data, for both elastic proton and antiproton-nucleus scattering.
The proton inelastic scattering of $^{24}$O($p,p$) at 62 MeV/nucleon is described by a self-consistent microscopic calculation with the continuum particle-vibration coupling (cPVC) method. The SLy5, SkM*, and SGII parameters are adopted as an effective nucleon-nucleon interaction. For all the parameters, the cPVC calculation reproduces very well the first peak at 4.65 MeV in the $^{24}$O excitation energy spectrum as well as its angular distribution. The role of the cPVC self-energy strongly depends on the effective interactions. The higher-lying strength around 7.3 MeV is suggested to be a superposition of the $3^-$ and $4^+$ states by the results with SLy5 and SGII, whereas the SkM* calculation indicates it is a pure $3^-$ state. This difference gives a rather strong interaction dependence of the angular distribution corresponding to the higher-lying strength.
The parity nonconserving longitudinal analyzing power A_L is calculated in elastic pp scattering at the energies below the approximate inelastic region T_lab = 350 MeV. The short-ranged heavy meson rho and omega exchanges as well as the longer-ranged two pion exchanges are considered as the mediators of the parity nonconserving interactions. The DDH best coupling values are used as the parity nonconserving meson-NN couplings. Also three different parity nonconserving two-pion exchange potentials by various authors are compared.
It is suggested that proton elastic scattering on atomic electrons allows a precise measurement of the proton charge radius. Very small values of transferred momenta (up to four order of magnitude smaller than the ones presently available) can be reached with high probability.
Proton elastic scattering and inelastic scattering to the first excited state of 6He have been measured over a wide angular range using a 40.9A MeV 6He beam. The data have been analyzed with a fully microscopic model of proton-nucleus scattering using 6He wave functions generated from large space shell model calculations. The inelastic scattering data show a remarkable sensitivity to the halo structure of 6He.
