Analogous to 2D layered transition metal dichalcogenides, the TlSe family of 1D chain materials with Zintl-type structure exhibits exotic phenomena under high-pressure. In the present work, we have systematically investigated the high-pressure behavior of TlInTe 2 using Raman spectroscopy, synchrotron X-ray diffraction, and transport measurements, in combination with crystal structure prediction (CSP) based on the evolutionary approach and first principles calculations. We found that TlInTe$_2$ undergoes a pressure driven semiconductor to semimetal transition at 4 GPa, followed by a superconducting transition at 5.7 GPa (with Tc = 3.8 K) induced by a Lifshitz transition. The Lifshitz transition is initiated by the appearance of new electron pockets on the Fermi surface, which evolve with pressure and connect to the adjacent electron pockets forming an umbrella shaped Fermi surface at the top and bottom of the Brillouin zone. An unusual giant phonon softening (Ag mode) concomitant with a V-shaped Tc behavior appears at 10-12 GPa as a result of the interaction of optical phonons with the conduction electrons, resulting in Fano line shaped asymmetry in Ag mode. A prominent Tc anomaly concurrent with the Ag mode softening at 19-20 GPa is correlated to the semimetal to metal transition. The CSP calculations reveal that these transitions are not accompanied by any structural phase transitions up to the maximum pressure achieved, 33.5 GPa. Our findings on TlInTe$_2$ open up a new platform to study a plethora of unexplored high pressure novel phenomena in TlSe family induced by Lifshitz transition (electronic driven), phonon softening and electron-phonon coupling.

The effects of copper doping on the structural and superconducting phase transitions of Ba(Ni$_{1-x}$Cu$_{x}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$ were studied by examining the resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat. We found an abrupt increase in the superconducting transition temperature $T_{rm c}$ from 0.6 K in the triclinic phase with less copper ($x$ $leq$ 0.16) to 2.5-3.2 K in the tetragonal phase with more copper ($x$ $>$ 0.16). The specific-heat data suggested that doping-induced phonon softening was responsible for the enhanced superconductivity in the tetragonal phase. All of these observations exhibited striking similarities to those observed in the phosphorus doping of BaNi$_{2}$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_{2}$ [K. Kudo et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 097002 (2012).], which markedly contrast the behavior of phosphorus and copper doping of the iron-based superconductor BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$.

We report measurements of the electrical resistivity and ac magnetic susceptibility of single crystalline LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ under pressure, in order to investigate the interplay of superconductivity and CDW order. LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ exhibits a first order phase transition from a tetragonal to orthorhombic structure, accompanied by the onset of CDW order below $T_{rm{CDW}}$ = 76 K, while superconductivity occurs at a lower temperature of $T_{rm{c}}$ = 1.87 K. We find that the application of pressure initially suppresses the CDW transition, but enhances $T_{rm{c}}$. At pressures above 2.4 GPa, CDW order vanishes, while both $T_{rm{c}}$ and the resistivity $A$-coefficient reach a maximum value around this pressure. Our results suggest that the occurrence of a superconducting dome can be accounted for within the framework of BCS theory, where there is a maximum in the density of states upon the closure of the CDW gap.

Electrical resistivity measurements under high pressures up to 29 GPa were performed for oxypnictide compound LaFeAsO. We found a pressure-induced superconductivity in LaFeAsO. The maximum value of Tc is 21 K at ~12 GPa. The pressure dependence of the Tc is similar to those of LaFeAsO1-xFx series reported previously.
Superconductors at the atomic two-dimensional (2D) limit are the focus of an enduring fascination in the condensed matter community. This is because, with reduced dimensions, the effects of disorders, fluctuations, and correlations in superconductors become particularly prominent at the atomic 2D limit; thus such superconductors provide opportunities to tackle tough theoretical and experimental challenges. Here, based on the observation of ultrathin 2D superconductivity in mono- and bilayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS$_2$) with electric-double-layer (EDL) gating, we found that the critical sheet carrier density required to achieve superconductivity in a monolayer MoS$_2$ flake can be as low as 0.55*10$^{14}$cm$^{-2}$, which is much lower than those values in the bilayer and thicker cases in previous report and also our own observations. Further comparison of the phonon dispersion obtained by ab initio calculations indicated that the phonon softening of the acoustic modes around the M point plays a key role in the gate-induced superconductivity within the Bardeen-Cooper Schrieffer (BCS) theory framework. This result might help enrich the understanding of 2D superconductivity with EDL gating.
F-free CeOBiS$_2$ single crystals have successfully grown, thoroughly eliminating a concern about F-contamination by using a high-purity CsCl flux. The obtained crystals have a plate-like shape with a size of 1.0-3.0 mm in the well-developed plane. Single crystal X-ray structural analysis clearly revealed that the CeOBiS$_2$ crystallizes with a space group $P4/nmm$ (with lattice parameters of $a$ = 4.0189(6) {AA}, $c$ = 13.573(2) {AA}). The bond valence sum estimation and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that the chemical state of Ce was in the mixed valence of Ce$^{3+}$ and Ce$^{4+}$. The single crystals show superconductivity with zero resistivity at $sim$1.3 K. This is the first conclusive evidence of superconductivity driven by Ce valence fluctuation in surely non-doped CeOBiS$_2$. The superconducting transition temperature was enhanced up to $sim$3.8 K by applying hydrostatic pressure.
