We introduce a new high resolution, high frame rate stereo video dataset, which we call SPIN, for tracking and action recognition in the game of ping pong. The corpus consists of ping pong play with three main annotation streams that can be used to learn tracking and action recognition models -- tracking of the ping pong ball and poses of humans in the videos and the spin of the ball being hit by humans. The training corpus consists of 53 hours of data with labels derived from previous models in a semi-supervised method. The testing corpus contains 1 hour of data with the same information, except that crowd compute was used to obtain human annotations of the ball position, from which ball spin has been derived. Along with the dataset we introduce several baseline models that were trained on this data. The models were specifically chosen to be able to perform inference at the same rate as the images are generated -- specifically 150 fps. We explore the advantages of multi-task training on this data, and also show interesting properties of ping pong ball trajectories that are derived from our observational data, rather than from prior physics models. To our knowledge this is the first large scale dataset of ping pong; we offer it to the community as a rich dataset that can be used for a large variety of machine learning and vision tasks such as tracking, pose estimation, semi-supervised and unsupervised learning and generative modeling.

Air pollutants, such as particulate matter, strongly impact human health. Most existing pollution monitoring techniques use stationary sensors, which are typically sparsely deployed. However, real-world pollution distributions vary rapidly in space and the visual effects of air pollutant can be used to estimate concentration, potentially at high spatial resolution. Accurate pollution monitoring requires either densely deployed conventional point sensors, at-a-distance vision-based pollution monitoring, or a combination of both. This paper makes the following contributions: (1) we present a high temporal and spatial resolution air quality dataset consisting of PM2.5, PM10, temperature, and humidity data; (2) we simultaneously take images covering the locations of the particle counters; and (3) we evaluate several vision-based state-of-art PM concentration prediction algorithms on our dataset and demonstrate that prediction accuracy increases with sensor density and image. It is our intent and belief that this dataset can enable advances by other research teams working on air quality estimation.
With the rapid development of deep learning, many deep learning-based approaches have made great achievements in object detection task. It is generally known that deep learning is a data-driven method. Data directly impact the performance of object detectors to some extent. Although existing datasets have included common objects in remote sensing images, they still have some limitations in terms of scale, categories, and images. Therefore, there is a strong requirement for establishing a large-scale benchmark on object detection in high-resolution remote sensing images. In this paper, we propose a novel benchmark dataset with more than 1 million instances and more than 15,000 images for Fine-grAined object recognItion in high-Resolution remote sensing imagery which is named as FAIR1M. All objects in the FAIR1M dataset are annotated with respect to 5 categories and 37 sub-categories by oriented bounding boxes. Compared with existing detection datasets dedicated to object detection, the FAIR1M dataset has 4 particular characteristics: (1) it is much larger than other existing object detection datasets both in terms of the quantity of instances and the quantity of images, (2) it provides more rich fine-grained category information for objects in remote sensing images, (3) it contains geographic information such as latitude, longitude and resolution, (4) it provides better image quality owing to a careful data cleaning procedure. To establish a baseline for fine-grained object recognition, we propose a novel evaluation method and benchmark fine-grained object detection tasks and a visual classification task using several State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) deep learning-based models on our FAIR1M dataset. Experimental results strongly indicate that the FAIR1M dataset is closer to practical application and it is considerably more challenging than existing datasets.
Multi-modal human action analysis is a critical and attractive research topic. However, the majority of the existing datasets only provide visual modalities (i.e., RGB, depth and skeleton). To make up this, we introduce a new, large-scale EV-Action dataset in this work, which consists of RGB, depth, electromyography (EMG), and two skeleton modalities. Compared with the conventional datasets, EV-Action dataset has two major improvements: (1) we deploy a motion capturing system to obtain high quality skeleton modality, which provides more comprehensive motion information including skeleton, trajectory, acceleration with higher accuracy, sampling frequency, and more skeleton markers. (2) we introduce an EMG modality which is usually used as an effective indicator in the biomechanics area, also it has yet to be well explored in motion related research. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first action dataset with EMG modality. The details of EV-Action dataset are clarified, meanwhile, a simple yet effective framework for EMG-based action recognition is proposed. Moreover, state-of-the-art baselines are applied to evaluate the effectiveness of all the modalities. The obtained result clearly shows the validity of EMG modality in human action analysis tasks. We hope this dataset can make significant contributions to human motion analysis, computer vision, machine learning, biomechanics, and other interdisciplinary fields.
This paper presents a new Vision Transformer (ViT) architecture Multi-Scale Vision Longformer, which significantly enhances the ViT of cite{dosovitskiy2020image} for encoding high-resolution images using two techniques. The first is the multi-scale model structure, which provides image encodings at multiple scales with manageable computational cost. The second is the attention mechanism of vision Longformer, which is a variant of Longformer cite{beltagy2020longformer}, originally developed for natural language processing, and achieves a linear complexity w.r.t. the number of input tokens. A comprehensive empirical study shows that the new ViT significantly outperforms several strong baselines, including the existing ViT models and their ResNet counterparts, and the Pyramid Vision Transformer from a concurrent work cite{wang2021pyramid}, on a range of vision tasks, including image classification, object detection, and segmentation. The models and source code are released at url{https://github.com/microsoft/vision-longformer}.
In the domain of visual tracking, most deep learning-based trackers highlight the accuracy but casting aside efficiency. Therefore, their real-world deployment on mobile platforms like the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is impeded. In this work, a novel two-stage Siamese network-based method is proposed for aerial tracking, textit{i.e.}, stage-1 for high-quality anchor proposal generation, stage-2 for refining the anchor proposal. Different from anchor-based methods with numerous pre-defined fixed-sized anchors, our no-prior method can 1) increase the robustness and generalization to different objects with various sizes, especially to small, occluded, and fast-moving objects, under complex scenarios in light of the adaptive anchor generation, 2) make calculation feasible due to the substantial decrease of anchor numbers. In addition, compared to anchor-free methods, our framework has better performance owing to refinement at stage-2. Comprehensive experiments on three benchmarks have proven the superior performance of our approach, with a speed of around 200 frames/s.
