We extend to finite elasticity the Data-Driven formulation of geometrically linear elasticity presented in Conti, Muller, Ortiz, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 229, 79-123, 2018. The main focus of this paper concerns the formulation of a suitable framework in which the Data-Driven problem of finite elasticity is well-posed in the sense of existence of solutions. We confine attention to deformation gradients $F in L^p(Omega;mathbb{R}^{ntimes n})$ and first Piola-Kirchhoff stresses $P in L^q(Omega;mathbb{R}^{ntimes n})$, with $(p,q)in(1,infty)$ and $1/p+1/q=1$. We assume that the material behavior is described by means of a material data set containing all the states $(F,P)$ that can be attained by the material, and develop germane notions of coercivity and closedness of the material data set. Within this framework, we put forth conditions ensuring the existence of solutions. We exhibit specific examples of two- and three-dimensional material data sets that fit the present setting and are compatible with material frame indifference.

A mixed finite element method combining an iso-parametric $Q_2$-$P_1$ element and an iso-parametric $P_2^+$-$P_1$ element is developed for the computation of multiple cavities in incompressible nonlinear elasticity. The method is analytically proved to be locking-free and convergent, and it is also shown to be numerically accurate and efficient by numerical experiments. Furthermore, the newly developed accurate method enables us to find an interesting new bifurcation phenomenon in multi-cavity growth.
This paper is devoted to studying impedance eigenvalues (that is, eigenvalues of a particular Dirichlet-to-Neumann map) for the time harmonic linear elastic wave problem, and their potential use as target-signatures for fluid-solid interaction problems. We first consider several possible families of eigenvalues of the elasticity problem, focusing on certain impedance eigenvalues that are an analogue of Steklov eigenvalues. We show that one of these families arises naturally in inverse scattering. We also analyse their approximation from far field measurements of the scattered pressure field in the fluid, and illustrate several alternative methods of approximation in the case of an isotropic elastic disk.

We make precise some results on the cloaking of displacement fields in linear elasticity. In the spirit of transformation media theory, the transformed governing equations in Cosserat and Willis frameworks are shown to be equivalent to certain high contrast small defect problems for the usual Navier equations. We discuss near-cloaking for elasticity systems via a regularized transform and perform numerical experiments to illustrate our near-cloaking results. We also study the sharpness of the estimates from [H. Ammari, H. Kang, K. Kim and H. Lee, J. Diff. Eq. 254, 4446-4464 (2013)], wherein the convergence of the solutions to the transmission problems is investigated, when the Lame parameters in the inclusion tend to extreme values. Both soft and hard inclusion limits are studied and we also touch upon the finite frequency case. Finally, we propose an approximate isotropic cloak algorithm for a symmetrized Cosserat cloak.
Elasticity image, visualizing the quantitative map of tissue stiffness, can be reconstructed by solving an inverse problem. Classical methods for magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) try to solve a regularized optimization problem comprising a deterministic physical model and a prior constraint as data-fidelity term and regularization term, respectively. For improving the elasticity reconstructions, appropriate prior about the underlying elasticity distribution is required which is not unique. This article proposes an infused approach for MRE reconstruction by integrating the statistical representation of the physical laws of harmonic motions and learning-based prior. For data-fidelity term, we use a statistical linear-algebraic model of equilibrium equations and for the regularizer, data-driven regularization by denoising (RED) is utilized. In the proposed optimization paradigm, the regularizer gradient is simply replaced by the residual of learned denoiser leading to time-efficient computation and convex explicit objective function. Simulation results of elasticity reconstruction verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
We study the isotropic elastic wave equation in a bounded domain with boundary with coefficients having jumps at a nested set of interfaces satisfying the natural transmission conditions there. We analyze in detail the microlocal behavior of such solution like reflection, transmission and mode conversion of S and P waves, evanescent modes, Rayleigh and Stoneley waves. In particular, we recover Knotts equations in this setting. We show that knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map determines uniquely the speed of the P and the S waves if there is a strictly convex foliation with respect to them, under an additional condition of lack of full internal reflection of some of the waves.
