We study the isotropic elastic wave equation in a bounded domain with boundary with coefficients having jumps at a nested set of interfaces satisfying the natural transmission conditions there. We analyze in detail the microlocal behavior of such solution like reflection, transmission and mode conversion of S and P waves, evanescent modes, Rayleigh and Stoneley waves. In particular, we recover Knotts equations in this setting. We show that knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map determines uniquely the speed of the P and the S waves if there is a strictly convex foliation with respect to them, under an additional condition of lack of full internal reflection of some of the waves.

This paper is devoted to studying impedance eigenvalues (that is, eigenvalues of a particular Dirichlet-to-Neumann map) for the time harmonic linear elastic wave problem, and their potential use as target-signatures for fluid-solid interaction problems. We first consider several possible families of eigenvalues of the elasticity problem, focusing on certain impedance eigenvalues that are an analogue of Steklov eigenvalues. We show that one of these families arises naturally in inverse scattering. We also analyse their approximation from far field measurements of the scattered pressure field in the fluid, and illustrate several alternative methods of approximation in the case of an isotropic elastic disk.

We make precise some results on the cloaking of displacement fields in linear elasticity. In the spirit of transformation media theory, the transformed governing equations in Cosserat and Willis frameworks are shown to be equivalent to certain high contrast small defect problems for the usual Navier equations. We discuss near-cloaking for elasticity systems via a regularized transform and perform numerical experiments to illustrate our near-cloaking results. We also study the sharpness of the estimates from [H. Ammari, H. Kang, K. Kim and H. Lee, J. Diff. Eq. 254, 4446-4464 (2013)], wherein the convergence of the solutions to the transmission problems is investigated, when the Lame parameters in the inclusion tend to extreme values. Both soft and hard inclusion limits are studied and we also touch upon the finite frequency case. Finally, we propose an approximate isotropic cloak algorithm for a symmetrized Cosserat cloak.
We prove a global uniqueness result for the Calder{o}n inverse problem for a general quasilinear isotropic conductivity equation on a bounded open set with smooth boundary in dimension $nge 3$. Performing higher order linearizations of the nonlinear Dirichlet--to--Neumann map, we reduce the problem of the recovery of the differentials of the quasilinear conductivity, which are symmetric tensors, to a completeness property for certain anisotropic products of solutions to the linearized equation. The completeness property is established using complex geometric optics solutions to the linearized conductivity equation, whose amplitudes concentrate near suitable two dimensional planes.
We consider the transmission problem for the Laplace equation on an infinite three-dimensional wedge, determining the complex parameters for which the problem is well-posed, and characterizing the infinite multiplicity nature of the spectrum. This is carried out in two formulations leading to rather different spectral pictures. One formulation is in terms of square integrable boundary data, the other is in terms of finite energy solutions. We use the layer potential method, which requires the harmonic analysis of a non-commutative non-unimodular group associated with the wedge.
In this note we discuss the (higher) regularity properties of the Signorini problem for the homogeneous, isotropic Lame system. Relying on an observation by Schumann cite{Schumann1}, we reduce the question of the solutions and the free boundary regularity for the homogeneous, isotropic Lame system to the corresponding regularity properties of the obstacle problem for the half-Laplacian.
