This review describes a link between Lax operators, embedded surfaces and Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz equations for integrable quantum field theories. This surprising connection between classical and quantum models is undoubtedly one of the most striking discoveries that emerged from the off-critical generalisation of the ODE/IM correspondence, which initially involved only conformal invariant quantum field theories. We will mainly focus of the KdV and sinh-Gordon models. However, various aspects of other interesting systems, such as affine Toda field theories and non-linear sigma models, will be mentioned. We also discuss the implications of these ideas in the AdS/CFT context, involving minimal surfaces and Wilson loops. This work is a follow-up of the ODE/IM review published more than ten years ago by JPA, before the discovery of its off-critical generalisation and the corresponding geometrical interpretation. The Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model is a model of $q$ interacting fermions whose large N limit is dominated by melonic graphs. In this review we first present a diagrammatic proof of that result by direct, combinatorial analysis of its Feynman graphs. Gross and Rosenhaus have then proposed a generalization of the SYK model which involves fermions with different flavors. In terms of Feynman graphs, these flavors can be seen as reminiscent of the colors used in random tensor theory. Applying modern tools from random tensors to such a colored SYK model, all leading and next-to-leading orders diagrams of the 2-point and 4-point functions in the large $N$ expansion can be identified. We then study the effect of non-Gaussian average over the random couplings in a complex, colored version of the SYK model. Using a Polchinski-like equation and random tensor Gaussian universality, we show that the effect of this non-Gaussian averaging leads to a modification of the variance of the Gaussian distribution of couplings at leading order in $N$. We then derive the form of the effective action to all orders.

In [1, 2], Nekrasov applied the Bethe/gauge correspondence to derive the $mathfrak{su}, (2)$ XXX spin-chain coordinate Bethe wavefunction from the IR limit of a 2D $mathcal{N}=(2, 2)$ supersymmetric $A_1$ quiver gauge theory with an orbifold-type codimension-2 defect. Later, Bullimore, Kim and Lukowski implemented Nekrasovs construction at the level of the UV $A_1$ quiver gauge theory, recovered his result, and obtained further extensions of the Bethe/gauge correspondence [3]. In this work, we extend the construction of the defect to $A_M$ quiver gauge theories to obtain the $mathfrak{su} , ( M + 1 )$ XXX spin-chain nested coordinate Bethe wavefunctions. The extension to XXZ spin-chain is straightforward. Further, we apply a Higgsing procedure to obtain more general $A_M$ quivers and the corresponding wavefunctions, and interpret this procedure (and the Hanany-Witten moves that it involves) on the spin-chain side in terms of Izergin-Korepin-type specializations (and re-assignments) of the parameters of the coordinate Bethe wavefunctions.
In this paper a comprehensive review is given on the current status of achievements in the geometric aspects of the Painleve equations, with a particular emphasis on the discrete Painleve equations. The theory is controlled by the geometry of certain rational surfaces called the spaces of initial values, which are characterized by eight point configuration on $mathbb{P}^1timesmathbb{P}^1$ and classified according to the degeration of points. We give a systematic description of the equations and their various properties, such as affine Weyl group symmetries, hypergeomtric solutions and Lax pairs under this framework, by using the language of Picard lattice and root systems. We also provide with a collection of basic data; equations, point configurations/root data, Weyl group representations, Lax pairs, and hypergeometric solutions of all possible cases.
This note announces results on the relations between the approach of Beilinson and Drinfeld to the geometric Langlands correspondence based on conformal field theory, the approach of Kapustin and Witten based on $N=4$ SYM, and the AGT-correspondence. The geometric Langlands correspondence is described as the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit of a generalisation of the AGT-correspondence in the presence of surface operators. Following the approaches of Kapustin - Witten and Nekrasov - Witten we interpret some aspects of the resulting picture using an effective description in terms of two-dimensional sigma models having Hitchins moduli spaces as target-manifold.
We compute the Schur index of Argyres-Douglas theories of type $(A_{N-1},A_{M-1})$ with surface operators inserted, via the Higgsing prescription proposed by D. Gaiotto, L. Rastelli and S. S. Razamat. These surface operators are obtained by turning on position-dependent vacuum expectation values of operators in a UV theory which can flow to the Argyres-Douglas theories. We focus on two series of $(A_{N-1},A_{M-1})$ theories; one with ${rm gcd}(N,M)=1$ and the other with $M=N(k-1)$ for an integer $kgeq 2$. For these two series of Argyres-Douglas theories, our results are identical to the characters of non-vacuum modules of the associated 2d chiral algebras, which explicitly confirms a remarkable correspondence recently discovered by C. Cordova, D. Gaiotto and S.-H. Shao.
