Electron-doped Sr(Co{1-x}Ni{x})2As2 single crystals with compositions x = 0 to 0.9 were grown out of self-flux and SrNi2As2 single crystals out of Bi flux. The crystals were characterized using single-crystal x-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetic susceptibility chi(H,T), isothermal magnetization M(H,T), heat capacity Cp(H,T), and electrical resistivity ho(H,T) measurements versus applied magnetic field H and temperature T. The chi(T) data show that the crystals exhibit an antiferromagnetic (AFM) ground state almost immediately upon Ni doping on the Co site. Ab-initio electronic-structure calculations for x = 0 and x = 0.15 indicate that a flat band with a peak in the density of states just above the Fermi energy is responsible for this initial magnetic-ordering behavior on Ni doping. The Curie-Weiss-like T dependence of chi in the paramagnetic (PM) state indicates dominant ferromagnetic (FM) interactions. The small ordered moments ~0.1 muB per transition metal atom and the values of the Rhodes-Wohlfarth ratio indicate that the magnetism is itinerant. The Cp(T) at low T exhibits Fermi-liquid behavior for 0 < x < 0.15 whereas an evolution to a logarithmic non-Fermi-liquid (NFL) behavior is found for x = 0.2 to 0.3. The logarithmic dependence is suppressed in an applied magnetic field. The low- T rho(H = 0,T) data show a T^2 dependence for 0 < x < 0.20 and a power-law dependence with n < 2 for x = 0.20 and 0.30. These low-T NFL behaviors observed in the Cp and rho measurements are most evident near the quantum-critical concentration x ~ 0.3 at which a T = 0 composition-induced transition from the AFM phase to the PM phase occurs.

The effects of Ni doping in Eu(Co{1-x}Ni{x})2As2 single crystals with x =0 to 1 grown out of self flux are investigated via crystallographic, electronic transport, magnetic, and thermal measurements. All compositions adopt the body-centered-tetragonal ThCr2Si2 structure with space group I4/mmm. We also find 3-4% of randomly-distributed vacancies on the Co/Ni site. Anisotropic magnetic susceptibility chi(T) data versus temperature T show clear signatures of an antiferromagnetic (AFM) c-axis helix structure associated with the Eu{+2} spins-7/2 for x = 0 and x = 1 as previously reported. The chi(T) data for x = 0.03 and 0.10 suggest an anomalous 2q magnetic structure containing two helix axes along the c axis and in the ab plane, respectively, whereas for x = 0.75 and 0.82, a c-axis helix is inferred as previously found for x = 0 and 1. At intermediate compositions x = 0.2, 0.32, 0.42, 0.54, and 0.65 a magnetic structure with a large ferromagnetic (FM) c-axis component is found from magnetization versus field isotherms, suggested to be an incommensurate FM cone structure associated with the Eu spins, which consists of both AFM and FM components. In addition, the chi(T) and heat capacity data for x = 0.2--0.65 indicate the occurrence of itinerant FM order associated with the Co/Ni atoms with Curie temperatures from 60 K to 25 K, respectively. Electrical resistivity measurements indicate metallic character for all compositions with abrupt increases in slope on cooling below the Eu AFM transition temperatures. In addition to this panoply of magnetic transitions, {151}Eu Mossbauer measurements indicate that ordering of the Eu moments proceeds via an incommensurate sine amplitude-modulated structure with additional transition temperatures associated with this effect.
We study the quantum critical phenomena emerging at the transition from triple-Weyl semimetal to band insulator, which is a topological phase transition described by the change of topological invariant. The critical point realizes a new type of semimetal state in which the fermion dispersion is cubic along two directions and quadratic along the third. Our renormalization group analysis reveals that, the Coulomb interaction is marginal at low energies and even arbitrarily weak Coulomb interaction suffices to induce an infrared fixed point. We compute a number of observable quantities, and show that they all exhibit non-Fermi liquid behaviors at the fixed point. When the interplay between the Coulomb and short-range four-fermion interactions is considered, the system becomes unstable below a finite energy scale. The system undergoes a first-order topological transition when the fermion flavor $N$ is small, and enters into a nematic phase if $N$ is large enough. Non-Fermi liquid behaviors are hidden by the instability at low temperatures, but can still be observed at higher temperatures. Experimental detection of the predicted phenomena is discussed.
We construct a two-dimensional lattice model of fermions coupled to Ising ferromagnetic critical fluctuations. Using extensive sign-problem-free quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we show that the model realizes a continuous itinerant quantum phase transition. In comparison with other similar itinerant quantum critical points (QCPs), our QCP shows much weaker superconductivity tendency with no superconducting state down to the lowest temperature investigated, hence making the system a good platform for the exploration of quantum critical fluctuations. Remarkably, clear signatures of non-Fermi-liquid behavior in the fermion propagators are observed at the QCP. The critical fluctuations at the QCP partially resemble Hertz-Millis-Moriya behavior. However, careful scaling analysis reveals that the QCP belongs to a different universality class, deviating from both (2+1)d Ising and Hertz-Millis-Moriya predictions.
Polycrystalline samples of Ce(Cu$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$Ge$_2$ were investigated by means of electrical resistivity $rho$($T$), magnetic susceptibility $chi$($T$), specific heat $C$$_p$($T$) and thermo electric power $S$($T$) measurements. The long-range antiferromagnetic (AFM) order, which set in at $T$$_N$ = 4.1 K in CeCu$_2$Ge$_2$, is suppressed by non-iso-electronic cobalt (Co) doping at a critical value of the concentration $x$$_c$ = 0.6, accompanied by non-Fermi liquid (NFL) behavior inferred from the power law dependence of heat capacity and susceptibility i.e. $C$($T$)/$T$ and $chi$($T$) $propto$ $T$$^{-1+lambda}$ down to 0.4 K, along with a clear deviation from $T$$^2$ behavior of the electrical resistivity. However, we have not seen any superconducting phase in the quantum critical regime down to 0.4 K.
We report a chemical substitution-induced ferromagnetic quantum critical point in polycrystalline Ni$_{1-x}$Rh$_x$ alloys. Through magnetization and muon spin relaxation measurements, we show that the ferromagnetic ordering temperature is suppressed continuously to zero at $x_{crit} = 0.375$ while the magnetic volume fraction remains 100% up to $x_{crit}$, pointing to a second order transition. Non-Fermi liquid behavior is observed close to $x_{crit}$, where the electronic specific heat $C_{el}/T$ diverges logarithmically, while immediately above $x_{crit}$ the volume thermal expansion coefficient $alpha_{V}/T$ and the Gruneisen ratio $Gamma = alpha_{V}/C_{el}$ both diverge logarithmically in the low temperature limit, further indication of a ferromagnetic quantum critical point in Ni$_{1-x}$Rh$_x$.
