We deform a defect conformal field theory by an exactly marginal bulk operator and we consider the dependence on the marginal coupling of flat and spherical defect expectation values. For even dimensional spherical defects we find a logarithmic divergence which can be related to a $a$-type defect anomaly coefficient. This coefficient, for defect theories, is not invariant on the conformal manifold and its dependence on the coupling is controlled to all orders by the one-point function of the associated exactly marginal operator. For odd-dimensional defects, the flat and spherical case exhibit different qualitative behaviors, generalizing to arbitrary dimensions the line-circle anomaly of superconformal Wilson loops. Our results also imply a non-trivial coupling dependence for the recently proposed defect $C$-function. We finally apply our general result to a few specific examples, including superconformal Wilson loops and Renyi entropy.

We construct a continuous one parameter family of $AdS_4times S^1times S^5$ S-fold solutions of type IIB string theory which have nontrivial $SL(2,mathbb{Z})$ monodromy in the $S^1$ direction. The solutions span a subset of a conformal manifold that contains the known $mathcal{N}=4$ S-fold SCFT in $d=3$, and generically preserve $mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetry. We also construct RG flows across dimensions, from $AdS_5times S^5$, dual to $mathcal{N}=4$, $d=4$ SYM compactified with a twisted spatial circle, to various $AdS_4times S^1times S^5$ S-fold solutions, dual to $d=3$ SCFTs. We construct additional flows between the $AdS_5$ dual of the Leigh-Strassler SCFT and an $mathcal{N}=2$ S-fold as well as RG flows between various S-folds.
We revisit quantum field theory anomalies, emphasizing the interplay with diffeomorphisms and supersymmetry. The Ward identities of the latter induce Noether currents of all continuous symmetries, and we point out how these consistent currents are replaced by their covariant form through the appearance of the Bardeen-Zumino currents, which play a central role in our study. For supersymmetry Ward identities, two systematic methods for solving the Wess-Zumino consistency conditions are discussed: anomaly inflow and anomaly descent. The simplest inflows are from supersymmetric Chern-Simons actions in one dimension higher, which are used to supersymmetrize flavor anomalies in $d=4$ and, for $d=2$ $mathcal{N}=(p,q)$, flavor anomalies with $p,qleq 3$ and Lorentz-Weyl anomalies with $p,qleq 6$. Finally, we extend the BRST algebra and the subsequent descent, a necessity for the diffeomorphism anomaly in retrospect. The same modification computes the supersymmetrized anomalies, and determines the above Chern-Simons actions when these exist.

Anomalies in Yang-Mills type gauge theories of gravity are reviewed. Particular attention is paid to the relation between the Dirac spin, the axial current j_5 and the non-covariant gauge spin C. Using diagrammatic techniques, we show that only generalizations of the U(1)- Pontrjagin four--form F^ F= dC arise in the chiral anomaly, even when coupled to gravity. Implications for Ashtekars canonical approach to quantum gravity are discussed.
We study the geometric interpretation of metastable vacua for systems of D3 branes at non isolated toric deformable singularities. Using the L^{aba} examples, we investigate the relations between the field theoretic susy breaking and restoration and the complex deformations of the CY singularities.
We study the black hole information problem within a semiclassically gravitating AdS$_d$ black hole coupled to and in equilibrium with a $d$-dimensional thermal conformal bath. We deform the bath state by a relevant scalar deformation, triggering a holographic RG flow whose trans-IR region deforms from a Schwarzschild geometry to a Kasner universe. The setup manifests two independent scales which control both the extent of coarse-graining and the entanglement dynamics when counting Hawking degrees of freedom in the bath. In tuning either, we find nontrivial changes to the Page time and Page curve. We consequently view the Page curve as a probe of the holographic RG flow, with a higher Page time manifesting as a result of increased coarse-graining of the bath degrees of freedom.
