YBaCuFeO5 is one of the interesting multiferroic compounds, which exhibits magnetic ordering and dielectric anomaly above 200 K. Partial substitution of Fe with other magnetic and non-magnetic ion affects the magnetic and the structural properties of the system. We report detailed investigation of structural, magnetic and dielectric properties of YBaCuFe0.85M0.15O5 (M=Co, Ni and Ga). We observed that the partial replacement of Ni and Co in place of Fe, results in magnetic dilution and broadening of the magnetic transition and shifting towards lower temperature. The replacement of Fe with non-magnetic Ga also results in shifting of the magnetic transition to the lower temperature side. The observed dielectric relaxation behavior in these compounds is due to the charge carrier hoping. This study highlights the impacts of magnetic and non-magnetic doping at the magnetic site on magnetic and dielectric properties in layered perovskite compound YBaCuFeO5.

We report the evolution of structural, magnetic and dielectric properties due to partial substitution of Ba by Sr in the high temperature multiferroic YBaCuFeO5. This compound exhibits ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic transitions around 200 K and these two phenomena are presumed to be coupled with each other. Our studies on magnetic and dielectric properties of the YBa1-xSrxCuFeO5 (x = 0.0, 0.25 and 0.5) show that substitution of Sr shifts magnetic transition towards higher temperature whereas dielectric transition to lower temperature. These results points to the fact that magnetic and dielectric transitions get decoupled as a result of chemical pressure in form of Sr substitution. The nature of magnetodielectric coupling changes across the series with the presence of higher order coupling terms. Additionally in these compounds glassy dynamics of electric dipoles is observed at low temperatures.
Here, we report the growth and characterization of single crystals of NdxSb2-xTe3, by solid state reaction route via self-flux method. The phase and layered growth are confirmed through x-ray diffraction and Scanning electron microscopy respectively. A slight contraction in lattice parameters is seen after Nd doping. Also a minute shift in vibrational modes of recorded Raman spectra has been observed by doping of Nd in Sb2Te3. The magneto-resistance values under magnetic field of 5Tesla for Sb2Te3 are 75 percent at 2.5K and 60 percent at 20K, but only 40 percent at 5K for Nd0.1Sb1.9Te3. DC magnetic measurements exhibit expected diamagnetic and paramagnetic behaviors for pure and Nd doped crystals respectively. A cusp-like behavior is observed in magneto conductivity of both pure and Nd doped crystals at low magnetic fields below 1 Tesla which is analyzed using Hikami Larkin Nagaoka (HLN) model. For Sb2Te3 the fitted parameters alpha values are -1.02 and -0.58 and the phase coherence lengths are 50.8(6)nm & 34.9(8)nm at temperatures 2.5K and 20K respectively. For Nd0.1Sb1.9Te3, alpha is -0.29 and coherence length is 27.2(1) nm at 5K. The {alpha} values clearly show the presence of weak anti localization effect in both, pure and Nd doped samples. Also with Nd doping, the contribution of bulk states increases in addition to conducting surface states in overall conduction mechanism.
Dielectric and magnetic properties of Eu0.5Ba0.25Sr0.25TiO3 are investigated between 10 K and 300 K in the frequency range from 10 Hz to 100 THz. A peak in permittivity revealed near 130 K and observed ferroelectric hysteresis loops prove the ferroelectric order below thistemperature. The peak in permittivity is given mainly by softening of the lowest frequency polar phonon (soft mode revealed in THz and IR spectra) that demonstrates displacive character of the phase transition. Room-temperature X-ray diffraction analysis reveals cubic structure, but the IR reflectivity spectra give evidence of a lower crystal structure, presumably tetragonal I4/mcm with tilted oxygen octahedra as it has been observed in EuTiO3. The magnetic measurements show that the antiferromagnetic order occurs below 1.8 K. Eu0.5Ba0.25Sr0.25TiO3 has three times lower coercive field than Eu0.5Ba0.5TiO3, therefore we propose this system for measurements of electric dipole moment of electron.
Sn$_{0.97-y}$Co$_{0.03}$Ni$_{y}$O$_{2}$ (0 $leq y leq$ 0.04) nanocrystals, with average crystallite size in the range of 7.3 nm ($y$=0.00) to 5.6 nm ($y$=0.04), have been synthesized using pH-controlled chemical co-precipitation technique. The non-stoichiometric Sn related defects and the O related stoichiometric Frenkel defects arising in the nanocrystals because of co-doping have been identified and their effect on the structural and optical properties of the nanocrystals have been extensively studied. It has been observed, using XPS that on increasing the Ni co-doping concentration ($y$), the non-stoichiometric Sn defect Sn$_{text{Sn}}^{}$ increases in compensation of existing defect Sn$_{i}^{....}$ for $y$ = 0.00 nanocrystals. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) also confirms the existence of Sn$_{text{Sn}}^{}$. Regarding the Frenkel defect, XPS results indicate that the concentration of $V_{text{O}}$ and O$_{i}$, manifested in the form of dangling bond related surface defect states, increases with increase in $y$. Temperature dependent magnetisation measurement of the nanocrystals confirm the charge state of $V_{text{O}}$. The point defects have been found to affect the structural properties in a way that distortion in octahedral geometry of complete Sn-O octahderon effectively reduces whereas distortion in the trigonal planar coordination geometry of O increases. The investigation of Urbach edge indicates an enhancement in the disorder in the nanocrystals on co-doping. The optical band gap of the nanocrystals has been found to be red shifted upto $y$=0.02 and then a gradual blue shift has been observed. A direct effect of the O related defect has been observed on the blue luminescence of the nanocrystals such that the spectral contribution of blue luminescence in the total emission intensity increases by 72% for $y$=0.04 as compared to $y$=0.00.
We have investigated the Vanadium- (V) substituted Ni-Zn-Co ferrites where the samples were prepared using solid-state reaction technique. The impact of V5+ substitution on the structural, magnetic, dielectric and electrical properties of Ni-Zn-Co ferrites has been studied. XRD analysis confirmed the formation of a single-phase cubic spinel structure. The lattice constants have been calculated both theoretically and experimentally along with other structural parameters such as bulk density, X-ray density and porosity. The FESEM images are taken to study the surface morphology. FTIR measurement is also performed which confirms spinel structure formation. The saturation magnetization (Ms), coercive field (Hc) and Bohr magneton (B) were calculated from the obtained M-H loops. The temperature dependent permeability is studied to obtain the Curie temperature. Frequency and composition dependence of permeability was also analyzed. Dielectric behavior and ac resistivity are also subjected to investigate the frequency dependency. An inverse relationship was observed between the composition dependence of dielectric constant and ac resistivity. The obtained results such as the electrical resistivity, dielectric constants and magnetic properties suggest the appropriateness of the studied ferrites in microwave device applications.
