The cross sections of ultra-soft x-ray bremsstrahlung in at electron scattering by Ar, Kr and Xe are theoretically calculated. The results are consistent with the absolute values of the differential cross sections measured by Gnatchenko et al [Phys. Rev. A 80, 022707 (2009)] for scattering electrons with an energy of 600 eV on these atoms.

Within the framework of local analytic sector subtraction, we present the full analytic integration of double-real and real-virtual local infrared counterterms that enter NNLO QCD computations with any number of massless final-state partons. We show that a careful choice of phase-space mappings leads to simple analytic results, including non-singular terms, that can be obtained with conventional integration techniques.

We have used the convergent close-coupling method and a unitarized first-order many-body theory to calculate integral cross sections for elastic scattering and momentum transfer, for excitation of the 5d^2 ^1S, 6s6p^1P_1, 6s7p^1P_1, 6s8p^1P_1, 6s5d^1D_2, 5d^2^1D_2, 6s6d^1D_2, 6p5d^1F_3, 6s4f^1F_3, 6p5d^1D_2, 6s6p^3P_{0,1,2}, 6s5d^3D_{1,2,3}, and 6p5d^3D_2 states, for ionization and for total scattering by electron impact on the ground state of barium at incident electron energies from 1 to 1000 eV. These results and all available experimental data have been combined to produce a recommended set of integral cross sections.

In this paper we present a two channel model with the goal of reproducing the soft scattering data available in the ISR-Tevatron energy range, and extend the model results to LHC and Cosmic Rays energies. A characteristic feature of the model is that we represent the sum of all diffractive final states at a vertex, by a single diffractive state. Our two main results are: (i) The approach of the elastic scattering amplitude to the black disc bound is very slow, reaching it at energies far higher than the GZK ankle cutoff. (ii) Our predicted survival probability for Higgs exclusive central diffractive production at the LHC is 0.7%, which is considerably smaller than our previous estimate. The above features are compatible with a parton-like model in which the traditional soft Pomeron is replaced by an amplitude describing the partonic system, which issaturated in the soft (long distance) limit.
Inclusion of down to zero-momentum gluons and their k_t resummation is shown to quench the too fast rise of the mini jet cross section and thereby obtain realistic total cross-sections.
Resonant elastic X-ray scattering has been widely employed for exploring complex electronic ordering phenomena, like charge, spin, and orbital order, in particular in strongly correlated electronic systems. In addition, recent developments of pump-probe X-ray scattering allow us to expand the investigation of the temporal dynamics of such orders. Here, we introduce a new time-resolved Resonant Soft X-ray Scattering (tr-RSXS) endstation developed at the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory X-ray Free Electron Laser (PAL-XFEL). This endstation has an optical laser (wavelength of 800 nm plus harmonics) as the pump source. Based on the commissioning results, the tr-RSXS at PAL-XFEL can deliver a soft X-ray probe (400-1300 eV) with a time resolution about ~100 fs without jitter correction. As an example, the temporal dynamics of a charge density wave on a high-temperature cuprate superconductor is demonstrated.
