The scalar-isoscalar mode of QCD becomes lighter/nearly massless close to the chiral transition/second-order critical point. From nuclear physics we know that this mode is the main responsible for the attractive part of the nucleon-nucleon potential at inter-particle distances of 1-2 fm. Therefore one expects that close to the critical point there is a long-range strong attraction among nucleons. Using a Walecka-Serot model for the NN potential we study the effects of the critical point in a finite system of nucleons and mesons by solving classical Molecular Dynamics+Langevin equations for the freeze-out conditions of heavy-ion collisions. Going beyond the mean-field approximation allows us to account for strong nucleon correlations in the time evolution, leading to baryon clustering. We observe that light cluster formation, together with an enhancement of higher-order cumulants of the proton distribution can signal the presence of the critical point.

We derive the nucleon-nucleon interaction from the Skyrme model using second order perturbation theory and the dipole approximation to skyrmion dynamics. Unlike previous derivations, our derivation accounts for the non-trivial kinetic and potential parts of the skyrmion-skyrmion interaction lagrangian and how they couple in the quantum calculation. We derive the eight low energy interaction potentials and compare them with the phenomenological Paris model, finding qualitative agreement in seven cases.
We present state-of-the-art results from a lattice QCD calculation of the nucleon axial coupling, $g_A$, using Mobius Domain-Wall fermions solved on the dynamical $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ HISQ ensembles after they are smeared using the gradient-flow algorithm. Relevant three-point correlation functions are calculated using a method inspired by the Feynman-Hellmann theorem, and demonstrate significant improvement in signal for fixed stochastic samples. The calculation is performed at five pion masses of $m_pisim {400, 350, 310, 220, 130}$~MeV, three lattice spacings of $asim{0.15, 0.12, 0.09}$~fm, and we do a dedicated volume study with $m_pi Lsim{3.22, 4.29, 5.36}$. Control over all relevant sources of systematic uncertainty are demonstrated and quantified. We achieve a preliminary value of $g_A = 1.285(17)$, with a relative uncertainty of 1.33%.

We study the KN interactions in the I(J^{pi})=0(1/2^-) and 1(1/2^-) channels and associated exotic state Theta^+ from 2+1 flavor full lattice QCD simulation for relatively heavy quark mass corresponding to m_{pi}=871 MeV. The s-wave KN potentials are obtained from the Bethe-Salpeter wave function by using the method recently developed by HAL QCD (Hadrons to Atomic nuclei from Lattice QCD) Collaboration. Potentials in both channels reveal short range repulsions: Strength of the repulsion is stronger in the I=1 potential, which is consistent with the prediction of the Tomozawa-Weinberg term. The I=0 potential is found to have attractive well at mid range. From these potentials, the $KN$ scattering phase shifts are calculated and compared with the experimental data.
Finite energy QCD sum rules involving nucleon current correlators are used to determine several QCD and hadronic parameters in the presence of an external, uniform, large magnetic field. The continuum hadronic threshold $s_0$, nucleon mass $m_N$, current-nucleon coupling $lambda_N$, transverse velocity $v_perp$, the spin polarization condensate $langlebar qsigma_{12} qrangle$, and the magnetic susceptibility of the quark condensate $chi_q$, are obtained for the case of protons and neutrons. Due to the magnetic field, and charge asymmetry of light quarks up and down, all the obtained quantities evolve differently with the magnetic field, for each nucleon or quark flavor. With this approach it is possible to obtain the evolution of the above parameters up to a magnetic field strength $eB < 1.4$ GeV$^2$.
We study the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon within a hybrid constituent-quark model that comprises, in addition to the $3q$ valence component, also a $3q$+$pi$ non-valence component. To this aim we employ a Poincare-invariant multichannel formulation based on the point-form of relativistic quantum mechanics. With a simple 3-quark wave function for the bare nucleon, i.e. the $3q$-component, we obtain reasonable results for the nucleon form factors and predict the meson-cloud contribution to be significant only below $Q^2lesssim 0.5$,GeV$^2$ amounting to about 10% for $Q^2rightarrow 0$, in accordance with the findings of other authors.
