Connections between the 1-excitation dynamics of spin lattices and quantum walks on graphs will be surveyed. Attention will be paid to perfect state transfer (PST) and fractional revival (FR) as well as to the role played by orthogonal polynomials in the study of these phenomena. Included is a discussion of the ordered Hamming scheme, its relation to multivariate Krawtchouk polynomials of the Tratnik type, the exploration of quantum walks on graphs of this association scheme and their projection to spin lattices with PST and FR.
In the present paper, we construct quantum Markov chains (QMC) over the Comb graphs. As an application of this construction, it is proved the existence of the disordered phase for the Ising type models (within QMC scheme) over the Comb graphs. Moreover, it is also established that the associated QMC has clustering property with respect to translations of the graph. We stress that this paper is the first one where a nontrivial example of QMC over non-regular graphs is given.
Analytic mass-spring chains with dispersionless pulse transfer and fractional revival are presented. These are obtained using the properties of the para-Racah polynomials. This provides classical analogs of the quantum spin chains that realize important tasks in quantum information: perfect state transfer and entanglement generation.
We construct quasilocal conserved charges in the gapless ($|Delta| le 1$) regime of the Heisenberg $XXZ$ spin-$1/2$ chain, using semicyclic irreducible representations of $U_q(mathfrak{sl}_2)$. These representations are characterized by a periodic action of ladder operators, which act as generators of the aforementioned algebra. Unlike previously constructed conserved charges, the new ones do not preserve magnetization, i.e. they do not possess the $U(1)$ symmetry of the Hamiltonian. The possibility of application in relaxation dynamics resulting from $U(1)$-breaking quantum quenches is discussed.
Inspired by the classical spectral analysis of birth-death chains using orthogonal polynomials, we study an analogous set of constructions in the context of open quantum dynamics and related walks. In such setting, block tridiagonal matrices and matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials are the natural objects to be considered. We recall the problems of the existence of a matrix of measures or weight matrix together with concrete calculations of basic statistics of the walk, such as site recurrence and first passage time probabilities, with these notions being defined in terms of a quantum trajectories formalism. The discussion concentrates on the models of quantum Markov chains, due to S. Gudder, and on the particular class of open quantum walks, due to S. Attal et al. The folding trick for birth-death chains on the integers is revisited in this setting together with applications of the matrix-valued Stieltjes transform associated with the measures, thus extending recent results on the subject. Finally, we consider the case of non-symmetric weight matrices and explore some examples.
We prove an analog of Levinsons theorem for scattering on a weighted (m+1)-vertex graph with a semi-infinite path attached to one of its vertices. In particular, we show that the number of bound states in such a scattering problem is equal to m minus half the winding number of the phase of the reflection coefficient (where each so-called half-bound state is counted as half a bound state).
