We study spin oscillations of massive Dirac neutrinos in background matter, electromagnetic and gravitational fields. First, using the Dirac equation for a neutrino interacting with the external fields in curved spacetime, we rederive the quasiclassical equation for the neutrino spin evolution, which was proposed previously basing on principles of the general covariance. Then, we apply this result for the description of neutrino spin oscillations in nonmoving and unpolarized matter under the influence of a constant transverse magnetic field and a gravitational wave. We derive the effective Schrodinger equation for neutrino oscillations in these external fields and solve it numerically. Choosing realistic parameters of external fields, we show that the parametric resonance can take place in spin oscillations of low energy neutrinos. Some astrophysical applications are briefly discussed.
Gravity induced neutrino-antineutrino oscillations are studied in the context of one and two flavor scenarios. This allows one to investigate the particle-antiparticle correlations in two and four level systems, respectively. Flavor entropy is used to probe the entanglement in the system. The well known witnesses of non-classicality such as Mermin and Svetlichly inequalities are investigated. Since the extent of neutrino-antineutrino oscillation is governed by the strength of the gravitational field, the behavior of non-classicality shows interesting features as one varies the strength of the gravitational field. Specifically, the suppression of the entanglement with the increase of the gravitational field is observed which is witnessed in the form of decrease in the flavor entropy of the system. The features of the Mermin and the Svetlichny inequalities allow one to make statements about the degeneracy of neutrino mass eigenstates.
We study neutrino flavor oscillations in a plane gravitational wave (GW) with circular polarization. For this purpose we use the solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation to get the contribution of GW to the effective Hamiltonian for the neutrino mass eigenstates. Then, considering stochastic GWs, we derive the equation for the density matrix for flavor neutrinos and analytically solve it in the two flavors approximation. The equation for the density matrix for the three neutrino flavors is also derived and solved numerically. In both cases of two and three neutrino flavors, we predict the ratios of fluxes of different flavors at a detector for cosmic neutrinos with relatively low energies owing to the interaction with such a GW background. The obtained results are compared with the recent observation of the flavor content of the astrophysical neutrino fluxes.
After a brief history of two known types of neutrino mixing and oscillations, including neutrino spin and spin-flavour oscillations in the transversal magnetic field, we perform systematic study of a new phenomenon of neutrino spin and spin-flavour oscillations engendered by the transversal matter currents on the bases of the developed quantum treatment of the phenomenon. Possibilities for the resonance amplification of these new types of oscillations by the longitudinal matter currents and longitudinal magnetic fields are analyzed. We also consider modifications of the oscillation probabilities due to possible arbitrary orientation of the magnetic field vector ${bf B}$ and the matter velocity ${bf v}$.
We review the application of the relativistic quantum mechanics method for the description of neutrino oscillations for the studies of spin-flavor oscillations in background matter under the influence of a plane electromagnetic wave. Basing on the new exact solution of the Dirac-Pauli equation for a massive neutrino in the given external fields, we derive the transition probabilities for spin and spin-flavor oscillations. The obtained expressions are analyzed for different types of the neutrino magnetic moments. Our results are compared with findings of other authors.
Many-body systems with chiral fermions exhibit anomalous transport phenomena originated from quantum anomalies. Based on quantum field theory, we derive the kinetic theory for chiral fermions interacting with an external electromagnetic field and a background curved geometry. The resultant framework respects the covariance under the U(1) gauge, local Lorentz, and diffeomorphic transformations. It is particularly useful to study the gravitational or non-inertial effects for chiral systems. As the first application, we study the chiral dynamics in a rotating coordinate and clarify the roles of the Coriolis force and spin-vorticity coupling in generating the chiral vortical effect (CVE). We also show that the CVE is an intrinsic phenomenon of a rotating chiral fluid, and thus independent of observers frame.
