Channel estimation is crucial for modern WiFi system and becomes more and more challenging with the growth of user throughput in multiple input multiple output configuration. Plenty of literature spends great efforts in improving the estimation accuracy, while the interpolation schemes are overlooked. To deal with this challenge, we exploit the super-resolution image recovery scheme to model the non-linear interpolation mechanisms without pre-assumed channel characteristics in this paper. To make it more practical, we offline generate numerical channel coefficients according to the statistical channel models to train the neural networks, and directly apply them in some practical WiFi prototype systems. As shown in this paper, the proposed super-resolution based channel estimation scheme can outperform the conventional approaches in both LOS and NLOS scenarios, which we believe can significantly change the current channel estimation method in the near future.

Coupled structured matrix factorization (CoSMF) for hyperspectral super-resolution (HSR) has recently drawn significant interest in hyperspectral imaging for remote sensing. Presently there is very few work that studies the theoretical recovery guarantees of CoSMF. This paper makes one such endeavor by considering the CoSMF formulation by Wei et al., which, simply speaking, is similar to coupled non-negative matrix factorization. Assuming no noise, we show sufficient conditions under which the globably optimal solution to the CoSMF problem is guaranteed to deliver certain recovery accuracies. Our analysis suggests that sparsity and the pure-pixel (or separability) condition play a hidden role in enabling CoSMF to achieve some good recovery characteristics.

Channel estimation in the RIS-aided massive multiuser multiple-input single-output (MU-MISO) wireless communication systems is challenging due to the passive feature of RIS and the large number of reflecting elements that incur high channel estimation overhead. To address this issue, we propose a novel cascaded channel estimation strategy with low pilot overhead by exploiting the sparsity and the correlation of multiuser cascaded channels in millimeter-wave massive MISO systems. Based on the fact that the phsical positions of the BS, the RIS and users may not change in several or even tens of consecutive channel coherence blocks, we first estimate the full channel state information (CSI) including all the angle and gain information in the first coherence block, and then only re-estimate the channel gains in the remaining coherence blocks with much less pilot overhead. In the first coherence block, we propose a two-phase channel estimation method, in which the cascaded channel of one typical user is estimated in Phase I based on the linear correlation among cascaded paths, while the cascaded channels of other users are estimated in Phase II by utilizing the partial CSI of the common base station (BS)-RIS channel obtained in Phase I. The total theoretical minimum pilot overhead in the first coherence block is $8J-2+(K-1)leftlceil (8J-2)/Lrightrceil $, where $K$, $L$ and $J$ denote the numbers of users, paths in the BS-RIS channel and paths in the RIS-user channel, respectively. In each of the remaining coherence blocks, the minimum pilot overhead is $JK$. Moreover, the training phase shift matrices at the RIS are optimized to improve the estimation performance.
In this paper, we develop two high-resolution channel estimation schemes based on the estimating signal parameters via the rotational invariance techniques (ESPRIT) method for frequency-selective millimeter wave (mmWave) massive MIMO systems. The first scheme is based on two-dimensional ESPRIT (TDE), which includes three stages of pilot transmission. This scheme first estimates the angles of arrival (AoA) and angles of departure (AoD) and then pairs the AoA and AoD. The other scheme reduces the pilot transmission from three stages to two stages and therefore reduces the pilot overhead. It is based on one-dimensional ESPRIT and minimum searching (EMS). It first estimates the AoD of each channel path and then searches the minimum from the identified mainlobe. To guarantee the robust channel estimation performance, we also develop a hybrid precoding and combining matrices design method so that the received signal power keeps almost the same for any AoA and AoD. Finally, we demonstrate that the proposed two schemes outperform the existing channel estimation schemes in terms of computational complexity and performance.

Recently, deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have obtained promising results in image processing tasks including super-resolution (SR). However, most CNN-based SR methods treat low-resolution (LR) inputs and features equally across channels, rarely notice the loss of information flow caused by the activation function and fail to leverage the representation ability of CNNs. In this letter, we propose a novel single-image super-resolution (SISR) algorithm named Wider Channel Attention Network (WCAN) for remote sensing images. Firstly, the channel attention mechanism is used to adaptively recalibrate the importance of each channel at the middle of the wider attention block (WAB). Secondly, we propose the Local Memory Connection (LMC) to enhance the information flow. Finally, the features within each WAB are fused to take advantage of the networks representation capability and further improve information and gradient flow. Analytic experiments on a public remote sensing data set (UC Merced) show that our WCAN achieves better accuracy and visual improvements against most state-of-the-art methods.
Correlation-based techniques used for frame synchronization can suffer significant performance degradation over multi-path frequency-selective channels. In this paper, we propose a joint frame synchronization and channel estimation (JFSCE) framework as a remedy to this problem. This framework, however, increases the size of the resulting combined channel vector which should capture both the channel impulse response (CIR) vector and the frame boundary offset and, therefore, its estimation becomes more challenging. On the other hand, because the combined channel vector is sparse, sparse channel estimation methods can be applied. We propose several JFSCE methods using popular sparse signal recovery (SSR) algorithms which exploit the sparsity of the combined channel vector. Subsequently, the sparse channel vector estimate is used to design a sparse equalizer. Our simulation results and experimental measurements using software defined radios (SDRs) show that in some scenarios our proposed method improves the overall system performance significantly, in terms of the mean square error (MSE) between the transmitted and the equalized symbols compared to the conventional method.
