We present characterization results of a neutron Anger camera based on a lithium-6 loaded cerium activated silicate glass scintillator (33.3 x 33.3 x 1 mm3) and an array of 64 silicon photomultipliers. Reconstruction of the scintillation events is performed with a statistical method, implemented on a graphics processing unit (GPU). We demonstrate that the light response model of the detector can be obtained from flood irradiation calibration data using an unsupervised iterative procedure. The useful field of view is 28 x 28 mm2. The spatial resolution measured at 2.5 A neutron beam is better than 0.6 mm FWHM and the energy resolution at the neutron peak is 11%.

The Optically Segmented Single Volume Scatter Camera (OS-SVSC) aims to image neutron sources for non-proliferation applications using the kinematic reconstruction of elastic double-scatter events. Our prototype system consists of 64 EJ-204 organic plastic scintillator bars, each measuring 5 mm $times$ 5 mm $times$ 200 mm and individually wrapped in Teflon tape. The scintillator array is optically coupled to two silicon photomultiplier ArrayJ-60035 64P-PCB arrays, each comprised of 64 individual 6 $times$ 6 mm J-Series sensors arranged in an 8 $times$ 8 array. We detail our calibration efforts, beginning with calibrations for the electronics, based on the IRS3D application-specific integrated circuits, and their associated timing resolutions, ranging from 30 ps to 90 ps. With electronics calibrations applied, energy and position calibrations were performed for a set of edge bars using $^{22}$Na and $^{90}$Sr, respectively, reporting an average resolution of (12.07$pm$0.03) mm for energy depositions between 900 keVee and 1000 keVee. We further demonstrate a position calibration method for the internal bars of the matrix using cosmic-ray muons as an alternative to emission sources that cannot easily access these bars, with an average measured resolution of (14.86$pm$0.29) mm for depositions between 900 keVee and 1000 keVee. The coincident time resolution reported between pairs of bars measured up to 400 ps from muon acquisitions. Energy and position calibration values measured with muons are consistent with those obtained using particle emission sources.
A new high-precision detector for studying neutrons from beta-delayed neutron emission and direct reaction studies is proposed. The Neutron dEtector with Xn Tracking (NEXT) array is designed to maintain high intrinsic neutron detection efficiency while reducing uncertainties in neutron energy measurements. A single NEXT module is composed of thin segments of plastic scintillator, each optically separated, capable of neutron-gamma discrimination. Each segmented module is coupled to position sensitive photodetectors enabling the high-precision determination of neutron time of arrival and interaction position within the active volume. A design study has been conducted based on simulations and experimental tests leading to the construction of prototype units. First results from measurements using a $^{252}$Cf neutron source and accelerator-produced monoenergetic neutrons are presented.
SIKA, a high-flux cold-neutron triple-axis spectrometer at the OPAL reactor at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization, is equipped with a 13-blade analyser and position-sensitive detector. This multiplexing design endows SIKA high flexibility to run in both traditional triple-axis and multiplexing analyser modes. In this study, two different multiplexing modes on SIKA are simulated using Monte-Carlo ray-tracing methods. The simulation results demonstrate SIKA capabilities to work in these operational modes, especially, the multi-Q const-Ef mode. This capability was demonstrated by measuring the phonon dispersion of a Pb single-crystal sample with the multi-Q const-Ef mode on SIKA. Compared to the traditional and multi-analyser triple-axis spectrometers, multiplexing modes on SIKA combine the advantages of the high data-acquisition efficiency and flexibility to focus on local areas of interest in the (Q, w) space.
The Cherenkov Imaging Telescope Integrated Read Out Chip (CITIROC) is a 32-channel fully analogue front-end ASIC dedicated to the read-out of silicon photo-multiplier (SiPM) sensors that can be used in a variety of experiments with different applications: nuclear physics, medical imaging, astrophysics, etc. It has been adopted as front-end for the focal plane detectors of the ASTRI-Horn Cherenkov telescope and, in this context, it was modified implementing the peak detector reading mode to satisfy the instrument requirements. For each channel, two parallel AC coupled voltage preamplifiers, one for the high gain and one for the low gain, ensure the read-out of the charge from 160 fC to 320 pC (i.e. from 1 to 2000 photo-electrons with SiPM gain = 10$^{6}$, with a photo-electron to noise ratio of 10). The signal in each of the two preamplifier chains is shaped and the maximum value is captured by activating the peak detector for an adjustable time interval. In this work, we illustrate the peak detector operation mode and, in particular, how this can be used to calibrate the SiPM gain without the need of external light sources. To demonstrate the validity of the method, we also present and discuss some laboratory measurements.
Novel ultra-compact, electrically switchable, time-structured/pulsed, ~1-14 MeV-level neutron and photon generators have application embedded into large detector systems, especially calorimeters, for energy and operational calibration. The small sizes are applicable to permanent in-situ deployment, or able to be conveniently inserted into large high energy physics detector systems. For bench- testing of prototypes, or for detector module production testing, these compact n and gamma generators offer advantages.
